UAE sports celebrate major wins in April
Among the highlights was Sharjah Football Club's unprecedented qualifying for the AFC Champions League 2 final, which they achieved by overcoming Saudi Arabia's Al Taawoun. In addition, the UAE under-17 national team qualified for the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup, which will be hosted in Qatar, following a fantastic performance in the AFC Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia. Success in combat sports In combat sports, Emirati jiu-jitsu players earned 24 medals in the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam in London and won the East Coast Pro Jiu-Jitsu Championship, defeating Brazil and Colombia. In Muay Thai, the national team won 17 medals at the World Championship in Thailand. UAE cycling makes headlines The UAE cycling squad continued to shine, with Slovenian star Tadej Pogačar winning the Tour of Flanders and finishing second in the Paris-Roubaix event, cementing his place among historic contenders. Gold in snooker and track, bronze in para badminton Mohammed Shehab won gold in men's snooker at the West Asian Billiards and Snooker Championship in Bahrain, while Maryam Kareem won her second gold medal for the UAE in the 200m in the Asian U-18 Championship in Saudi Arabia. Paralympic athlete Jamal Al-Badawi won bronze in badminton at the Czech International. Achievements in esports and basketball The UAE esports team earned bronze at the Arab International Championship for the "League of Legends" game. In basketball, Shabab Al Ahli defeated Saudi Arabia's Al Ittihad to win the West Asia Super League–Gulf Region. Medal haul at the Gulf Beach Games In the Gulf Beach Games, hosted by Oman, the UAE delegation won 23 medals (8 gold, 8 silver, and 7 bronze) across eight sports, finishing second overall. Administrative recognition in basketball On the administrative front, the Arab Basketball Federation's President, Major General Ismail Al Gergawi, was re-elected by acclamation for a fourth term during its general assembly in Dubai.

EAF dedicates Gulf Beach Games achievements to UAE's leadership
The Emirates Aerosports Federation (EAF) has dedicated the achievements of the 3rd Gulf Beach Games 2025 currently being held in Oman to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai and Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates, Crown Princes and to the people of the UAE. UAE national paragliding team star Abdullah Nasser Al Hammadi bagged two gold medals at the Gulf Beach Games in Muscat. The UAE paragliding team returned from Oman on Monday, and Yousef Hassan Al Hammadi, Vice President of the Emirates Aerosports Federation, expressed his great happiness with this achievement. Hammadi extended his congratulations to Sheikh Mansoor Bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE National Olympic Committee, as well as to Faris Mohammed Al Mutawa, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee, Ghanem Mubarak Rashid Al Hajeri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Sports, Sheikh Suhail Bin Butti Al Maktoum, Executive Director of the Sports Development Sector at the Ministry of Sports, Dr. Ali Mohammed Al Shumaili, Deputy Head of Mission at the UAE Embassy in Muscat, Nasser Al Neyadi, President of the Emirates Aerosports Federation, and Mohammed Bin Darwish, Executive Director of the National Olympic Committee, all of whom were present in Oman. The UAE delegation is participating with a team of 77 male and female athletes, representing the country in eight beach sports disciplines including football, handball, volleyball, athletics, tent pegging, sailing, swimming, and paragliding.

Nine-medal haul for Omani athletes at Gulf Beach Games
Muscat – Omani athletes are continuing to make a strong impact at the ongoing third Gulf Beach Games in Muscat, securing nine medals across multiple disciplines ahead of the competition's conclusion on April 11. Sprinter Mulham al Balushi won gold in the men's 60m with a time of 6.89 seconds, while teammate Rashid bin Huwishal al Asmi followed closely to take silver, clocking 7.03 seconds. In field events, Fatik Abdul Ghafoor claimed gold in the men's high jump with a 1.99m leap, and Salim al Yarubi topped the men's long jump with a jump of 7.2m. His compatriot, Salim al Rawahi, took silver with a mark of 6.98m. Oman's Mazoon al Alawi, a seasoned Olympic sprinter, secured silver in the women's 60m with a time of 7.9 seconds. The event was dominated by Bahraini athletes, who claimed gold and bronze. In equestrian events, Oman's tent pegging team earned silver in the Team Lance event, finishing behind Saudi Arabia. The UAE secured bronze. In the Singles Lance competition, Hamad al Riyami of Oman took bronze, while Qatar's Ali Hamad won gold. Oman also performed strongly in long-distance swimming. The national 10km team secured gold, with Saudi Arabia and Bahrain taking silver and bronze respectively. In the 10km individual event, Ayman al Qasimi earned silver and Nidal al Harrasi claimed bronze, rounding off a successful campaign for Oman's swimmers.

UAE national sailing team win gold at third Gulf Beach Games in Muscat
The UAE have raised their medal tally to two gold medals at the third edition of the Gulf Beach Games being underway in Oman with the participation of 330 male and female athletes. The national sailing team claimed the gold medal in the optimist team event, extending the country's success on the second day of the competition, following the opening-day gold secured by Abdullah Nasser Al Hammadi in paragliding. Oman won silver after finishing second, while Kuwait took bronze. Representing the UAE in this event were Khalifa Al Rumaithi, Zayed Omar Al Hosani, Thiyab Al Muhairi, Hamad Al Muhairi, and Madiyah Khalid Al Niyadi. Mohammed Abdullah Al Obaidli, Secretary-General of the UAE Sailing and Rowing Federation, congratulated Sheikh Mansoor Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE National Olympic Committee, and Sheikh Ahmed Bin Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE Sailing and Rowing Federation, on the impressive start delivered by the UAE's young sailing representatives in the Optimist team event at the Gulf Beach Games. Obaidli, who is accompanying the UAE delegation in Muscat, extended his congratulations to the team's athletes for this achievement, which reflects the dedicated efforts of the federation, in collaboration with sports clubs, to foster the development of promising young talents in marine sports. He added that the team, crowned with gold in the Optimist team event, includes Arab champion Rumaithi—winner of gold at the 2023 Arab Games in Algeria, double gold medallist at the 2024 Arab Championship in Kuwait, and a gold and silver winner at the 2024 GCC Youth Games held in the UAE. Hosani, who won silver in the youth team event at the GCC Youth Games, along with Thiyab and Hamad—the youngest athletes in the team—as well as emerging talent Madiyah, who previously secured two bronze medals at the 2023 Arab Games and both a gold and silver at the GCC Youth Games 2024. Obaidli expressed optimism for further success from the athletes, many of who topped the Arab Team and Arab Girls Championships last year. He highlighted strong potential in the upcoming sailing categories: ILCA 7, ILCA 6, ILCA 4, and Optimist, noting the wealth of experience and accomplishments within the squad. The team includes Adel Khalid, Sultan Khalid Mohammed Al Owais, Othman Abdul Karim Al Hammadi, Mohammed Abdul Karim Al Hammadi, Mohammed Khalid Al Owais, and Mohammed Marwan Al Marzouqi, as well as female sailors Dhohaa Al Beshr, Kamilia Al Qubaisi, Marwa Al Hammadi, and Alyazia Al Hammadi. The athletics and tent pegging teams have arrived in Muscat to compete in the games. The athletics team will compete in the long jump, triple jump, high jump, 1,600m race, and the 4×60m relay. They will begin their campaign on Tuesday with the long jump and high jump events. Team members include Muadh Fawzi, Naseeb Salmeen, Mohammed Hassan Al Noubi, Salem Ali Abdullah, Salem Hassan Al Baloushi, Saud Jumaa Al Zaabi, Mohammed Al Hammadi, Fatima Al Baloushi, Mahra Angelya, Alia Al Hammadi, Abeer Al Baloushi, Fatima Al Shamsi, Ruqayya Al Marzouqi, Fatima Khalil, and Jawaher Fareed.

Sheikh Khaled Al-Badr attends the inauguration of the Gulf Beach Games
KUWAIT CITY, April 5, (Agencies): The Chair of the Kuwaiti and Asian Aquatics Federations, Sheikh Khaled Al-Badr Al-Sabah, attended the opening ceremony of the 3rd Gulf Beach Games, which was held in Muscat on Saturday, April 5. According to a press release, Sheikh Khaled, before his departure, stated that the Gulf Beach Games is a distinguished sporting event and one of the most prominent competitions to be held in the Gulf countries in 2025. He expressed his full confidence in the capabilities and expertise of the sports institutions in the sisterly Sultanate of Oman to successfully organize this event. Sheikh Khaled highlighted that such events play a vital role in enhancing integration, facilitating the exchange of experiences, and elevating the technical and physical standards of athletes in the GCC countries. He stressed that the Omani Federation is one of the main pillars of Gulf Aquatics and is always striving to exchange expertise and continuously develop the aquatics system. Sheikh Khaled praised the tremendous efforts exerted by the relevant authorities in the Sultanate of Oman to provide all necessary facilities for the success of the Beach Games competition. This event, which brings together members of the GCC countries, will include eight sports and heritage events that will be held in a spirit of friendly competition. He affirmed the strong cooperation between the Asian Federation and the national federations of the member states to promote and elevate water sports throughout Asia so that Asia will remain a symbol of excellence in the Olympic Games and a global benchmark in the world of sports. Meanwhile, 65 athletes from Kuwait are competing across six sports: beach soccer, beach volleyball, sailing, paragliding, athletics, and tent pegging. The Kuwaiti air sports team kicked off its participation with paragliding competitions at Al-Jissah Beach, where they will compete in six rounds over the next two days. The team includes talented athletes Ibrahim Al-Rashoud, Ahmad Al-Madhi, Mohammad Al-Dousari, and Talal Al-Mutawa. The event aims to foster stronger sports cooperation among Gulf countries. Kuwaiti athletes are eager to achieve top results and proudly represent their country, hoping to raise the Kuwaiti flag on the podium. The Oman Olympic Committee has made extensive preparations for the games, ensuring a smooth event as the GCC countries, including Kuwait, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, and Qatar, come together to compete in a variety of beach sports. Founded in the early 1980s, the GCC has worked towards closer regional integration, not only in sports but across many sectors, and continues to unite the Gulf nations in sporting events like this one.
