Govt's Gurjar quota panel meets without stakeholders
Jaipur: The first meeting of the newly formed cabinet sub-committee on Gurjar quota demands was held Tuesday at the state secretariat but notably absent were representatives from the Gurjar Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti, the primary organisation leading the movement for Constitutional protection for their 5% MBC reservation in education and govt jobs. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The three-member panel, headed by parliamentary affairs minister Jogaram Patel, convened to discuss the possibility of including the 5% Most Backward Classes (MBC) quota for Gurjars in the Constitution's Ninth Schedule. The committee includes social justice minister Avinash Gehlot and minister of state for home Jawahar Singh Bedam. Speaking to TOI, Patel said, "Samiti members were invited yesterday (Monday) to attend the meeting but somehow nobody turned up today. I'm sure they will join the next meeting, which will be scheduled soon." The samiti members' absence raised concerns about the consultation process. A samiti representative, speaking on condition of anonymity, cited last minute notice as the reason for their non-attendance. "Most of our members are spread across the state. Such short notice made it logistically impossible to attend the meeting," the samiti member said. "With the Aug 8 deadline approaching, we expect better coordination," the representative said, warning of "indefinite protests" if the deadline is missed. The deadline stems from a June 8 Gurjar Mahapanchayat, where the state govt promised to address the community's demands within two months. Patel, however, downplayed timeline concerns, stating, "What matters is that the process has been initiated."

Gurjars give ultimatum to govt over quota demand
Jaipur: The Gurjar community, organised under the banner of Gurjar Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti led by Vijay Bainsla, Saturday gave the state govt an ultimatum until Sunday noon to fulfil their demand to extend full benefits of 5% reservation in govt jobs and education for most backward classes (MBCs). It also threatened a Gurjar agitation in Rajasthan if their demand was not met. A Gurjar Mahapanchayat will be held in Peelupura, Bharatpur, on June 8 to press for several demands, including 5% reservation in govt jobs and education, samiti president Vijay Bainsla said. "If the govt does not pay attention to our demands, then we will have to resort to agitation. There are many demands of the Gurjar community which the govt has not fulfilled yet," he said. It will be the first mahapanchayat of the community since the death of Col Kirori Bainsla, prominent Gurjar leader and Vijay Bainsla's father. Bainsla said, "We have been in constant dialogue with the govt. I've written several letters to the CM and chief secretary. I've met them and handed over our demands. Even after this if they say they didn't get the demand letter, I have no solution. If we need to give the draft of Gurjar demands to the govt again, we will." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esta nueva alarma con cámara es casi regalada en Villa Ballester (ver precio) Verisure Undo Meanwhile, before the mahapanchayat, MoS Home Jawahar Singh Bedam has been put forward by the state govt for talks.
