Raging Bull at Six Flags Great America closing temporarily for "major refresh"
Fans of the popular Raging Bull ride at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois, still have time to enjoy the roller coaster before its temporary closure this month. In a social media post, the park announced the ride will be closing temporarily for a full repainting. The coaster opened in May of 1999. It is 202 feet tall and 5,057 feet long, making it the tallest and longest coaster, according to the park's website. While the coaster is closed, attendees can also check out Wrath of Rakshasa, which opened in May. The last day to ride the Raging Bull roller coaster will be Monday, Aug. 18. The park did not say how long the ride will be closed for the project.

TikTok user Auto Parts City ( @autopartscity ) is an auto parts reseller based in Gurnee, Illinois. On July 5, the team behind Auto Parts City posted a video that includes a tip for owners of Nissan's continuously variable transmission, better known as CVT. 'This is a 2016 Nissan Rogue transmission that we sold,' the person behind the camera says. 'And we like to make fun of these Nissan transmissions because they all blow up because of the poor CVT. But Juan over here wants to give all of you CVT owners some advice.' Juan explains that Nissan CVT transmissions include two filters. 'One in the pan itself, in the bottom,' Juan says. 'And this small one is an external filter for the transmission. Now, you're supposed to replace your transmission fluid every 35-40k, in order for this transmission to last you over 200,000 miles.' According to Juan, a lot of people overlook replacing the second external filter to the detriment of their vehicle. 'If you change your oil on your CVT every 30-40k, change this filter, and the pan filter, your transmission will last pretty much the life of the vehicle,' Juan says. The History of CVT Transmissions The CVT is notorious in the automotive community. Unlike a traditional automatic transmission, the CVT has no gears, and instead uses a two-pulley system to send energy from the engine to the vehicle's wheels. Of course, these benefits come with drawbacks, in particular, the sound of the engine and the feel of changing gears. That can be a dealbreaker for more serious automotive enthusiasts and even casual drivers alike. And that's not even mentioning the class action lawsuit Nissan settled this summer with owners of 2015-2018 Muranos and 2016-2018 Maximas. The owners claimed that the CVT transmissions in those model years were defective. Nissan agreed to extend warranties and reimburse owners for prior repairs. Some owners might qualify for a $1,500 voucher. Viewers Weigh in on CVTs In the comments, viewers debated the quality of Nissan vehicles and how to best maintain a CVT. 'Servicing of filters and replacing the oil is all well and good, but the Nissan CVT transmissions suffer from heat soak because they operate at a higher PSI pressure,' wrote one person. 'So I strongly recommend the installation of an external oil cooler to lower the oil temperatures and prolong the life of the CVT oil.' 'This is actually very valuable advice,' wrote a second. 'Thank you for sharing what some might consider a trade secret. My now junked Sentra had 140k miles, and I doubt any previous owners bothered to change CVT oil.' Gurnee police warning residents about scam calls from fake officers demanding money
The Gurnee Police Department is warning residents about a scam where someone is impersonating officers. The department said the fake officers call and threaten residents, telling them there's a warrant for them due to unpaid fines. They would then demand the victims to send money or gift cards to avoid an arrest. The department said they'll never call or demand money or gift cards. Anyone who may experience the call is advised to hang up immediately and report it to the Gurnee Police Department at 847-599-7000.

Gurnee police report 15 business break-ins in overnight crime spree
Gurnee police said they are investigating a coordinated crime spree that resulted in 15 business break-ins in the early morning hours of Wednesday. Polcie said that shortly before 4 a.m., officers were sent to a business in the 400 block of Riverside Drive after multiple burglar alarms went off. When they arrived, they found front windows of several businesses shattered. As the officers investigated, police said it became clear that there had been a coordinated crime spree that hit 15 different businesses across the village. In some cases, the burglaries weren't discovered until workers arrived to open up in the morning. Cash registers were taken from some stores, while other businesses reported that nothing appeared to be missing. The total among of cash stolen is not yet known, police said. Police believe multiple suspects were involved in the spree, and said surveillance footage shows several people wearing masks and gloves breaking the front windows of the businesses. Six Flags Great America, Hurricane Harbor in Gurnee bringing back chaperone policy this week
Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor in Gurnee, Illinois, said they will bring back their chaperone policy starting Thursday. The policy requires guests aged 15 and under to be escorted by a parent, guardian, or adult aged 21 or older. The policy will be in effect all day from July 17 to 20, and then from 5 p.m. until close after that through the end of the season. The park said it could also implement the policy starting earlier in the day as they need to. Chaperones must have a valid government-issued photo ID with their date of birth at ticket entry. One adult cannot accompany more than 10 guests 15 years old or under, and they must remain in the park and stick with their party. Guests 16 and older must also show a government photo ID. If not, they will be denied entry. Guests 15 and under without a chaperone will be removed from the park during chaperone hours. In a notice to parents and guardians, the park said, "Parents or guardians are responsible for the behavior of their minor children. Appropriate behavior and supervision are the responsibility of the parent/guardian and is always expected." The reinstatement of the policy comes a week after shots were fired in the parking lot of Six Flags Great America. Police said their preliminary investigation found there may have been a fight before someone opened fire. Police said they were not able to find anyone who had been struck by the gunfire. In August 2022, two people, a 17-year-old boy and a 19-year-old woman, were wounded in a shooting in the front entrance parking lot of the amusement park. The park said the chaperone requirement applies to all one-day ticket holders, season pass holders, and members.
