Spinal cord injury rehab centre in Byndoor to be completed in 3 months
Udupi: Under the Seva Sethu initiative, which aims to address critical healthcare gaps in the Byndoor assembly constituency, work is in progress on Seva Dham, a dedicated spinal cord injury rehabilitation centre. Byndoor MLA Gururaj Gantihole told TOI the centre is the second major project under Seva Sethu, launched last year as part of the broader Samruddha Byndoor mission, an initiative focused on developing the constituency through public-private collaboration. In partnership with the NGO Seva Bharati from Kanyadi in Belthangady, a defunct govt lower primary school building in Henaberu, handed over by the Block Education Office, is being developed into the rehabilitation centre. The decision to take up this project was based on a local survey that highlighted the need for specialised care. Byndoor's geography, with its dense forests and rural terrain, often limits access to emergency and specialty healthcare. In addition, due to the region's strong dependence on agriculture, cases of spinal injuries caused by falling from trees are notably high. The survey identified at least 48 patients in urgent need of rehabilitation services, he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo S eva Dham will provide these individuals not only with medical support, but also an opportunity for recovery and rehabilitation. The foundation stone for the project was laid on April 28, and renovation work is progressing swiftly. Within three months, the centre is expected to be equipped with ramps, accessible toilets, hospital beds, and other facilities tailored for persons with disabilities, the MLA said. The estimated project cost is Rs 20 lakh, which will be taken care of through donors. Access to adequate medical care was a long-standing challenge in Byndoor. For emergencies, from snakebites to trauma, residents have to travel upto Udupi. Dialysis patients, in particular, suffered the brunt of limited local infrastructure, often travelling to Manipal, Ajjarkad, or Kundapur for regular treatment, facing long waits and significant physical and financial strain. However, it was only recently that Kasturba Hospital expanded its services by launching emergency care, dialysis, and speciality consultations at Anjali Hospital in Byndoor.

Innovative footbridges use repurposed bus, lorry chassis
1 2 Udupi: Faced with recurring monsoon disruptions and poor connectivity, about 10 innovative footbridges using repurposed bus and lorry chassis have been built in Byndoor. The initiative, funded through CSR contributions, was launched last year under the leadership of Byndoor MLA Gururaj Gantihole as part of the Samruddha Byndoor initiative to improve access to remote villages. Gantihole told TOI: "We completed 10 footbridges, all currently functional. The design involves raising concrete pillars and placing repurposed bus or lorry chassis over them. Checker plates are laid on top, and railings are added to ensure safety. The designs have been approved by structural engineers, and the method proved to be both safe and cost-effective." "Each chassis is approximately 36 feet in length. Depending on the requirement, multiple chassis are joined. For instance, a 72-foot bridge requires three concrete pillars. The estimated cost for a 36-foot bridge is about Rs 6 to 7 lakh, making this nearly 40% more cost-effective compared to traditional methods," he said. Two bridges were inaugurated last year, and eight more are now complete, awaiting formal inauguration. These bridges are collectively referred to as 'Arunachalam Bridges,' named after Dr R Arunachalam Charitable Trust that initiated the project. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like They Lost Their Money - Learn From Their Lesson Expertinspector Click Here Undo The trust has completed eight bridges so far, while the other two bridges are being constructed by Indus TMT through the Samyatha foundation. In a significant development, HAL expressed interest in the project and requested a detailed report. The report is in its final stages and will be submitted to the DC, who will forward it to HAL. The Byndoor constituency, which includes Byndoor and Kundapur taluks, requires atleast 400 such bridges, whose size varies from three meters to 25 meters. This is a unique initiative completely supported by private partners including NGOs, individual donors, entreprenuers and private companies.

MLA demands compensation, housing for Koraga woman rendered homeless in Kollur
Holding the Udupi district administration responsible for a Koraga woman being rendered homeless in Kollur, Udupi district, Byndoor MLA Gururaj Gantihole on Monday, April 21, demanded the administration to make suitable arrangements for her housing and immediately pay compensation. Visiting the demolished house site, Mr. Gantihole said though the family was residing at the place that was said to be under dispute for many years, the administration did not make any housing arrangements to her. This has culminated in the demolition of her accommodation by a private entity citing a court order, he said. Terming the action inhuman and expressing deep regrets, the MLA said the district administration was solely responsible for the developments. The administration should pay her compensation within three days and allot a house site and provide assistance to build a house, the MLA said. If the administration fails to give justice to the Koraga woman, he would lead a protest along with the aggrieved family, he cautioned. Mr. Gantihole noted that the Koragas were categorised as the particularly vulnerable tribal groups who were eligible for various government schemes and facilities. On April 17, a private trust demolished the house in which Gange Koraga was residing with her family for the last four decades, citing a court verdict. Leaders and members of Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samithi had held a demonstration condemning the demolition on April 19 and demanded justice to the family.
