Aizawl: An unprecedented upsurge in pig casualty due to resurgence of African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak was witnessed on Monday in Mizoram with 117 pigs dying of ASF in five districts, reports HC Vanlalruata. Champhai district registered pig deaths for the first time while Mamit district, bordering Tripura and Bangladesh, for the first time sees the disease spreading to rural areas. State veterinary officials said northeastern Mizoram's Khawzawl district registered the largest number of daily casualty at 67 in six villages and localities, followed by Chhippui village in Mamit district as 20 pigs died for the first time in the village while it was earlier confined to Zawlnuam town. Champhai district, bordering Myanmar, for the first time registered 18 deaths in four villages.

Mizoram govt allocates 1.85cr for road repair works

1 2 Aizawl: The Mizoram govt has allocated Rs 1.85 crore for urgent repair works on three critical road stretches across the state, following a review meeting chaired by CM Lalduhoma on Monday amid mounting public pressure over deteriorating road conditions, reports HC Vanlalruata. The meeting held was attended by PWD minister Vanlalhlana. Senior officials from the PWD and finance department reviewed the status of roads in the worst condition and outlined immediate remedial measures. The Darlak–Tuidam road in Mamit district bordering Bangladesh and Tripura, which has remained incomplete due to the contractor's financial or technical failure, has been identified as a priority.

2,923 Chin refugees left Zokhawthar till Wed: Champhai police officials

Aizawl: At least 2,923 out of 3,956 refugees from western Chin state of Myanmar adjacent to Mizoram have left the India-Myanmar border trade centre Zokhawthar village and returned to their respective villages till Wednesday, Champhai district police officials said, reports HC Vanlalruata. The officials said the refugees began returning to their homes from July 7. On Saturday, the maximum number of 2,319 refugees left Zokhawthar village and returned to Khawmawi, Rihkhawdar and nearby smaller villages. At least 48 refugees returned to Myanmar on Wednesday while 47 people returned on Tuesday, the officials said. Efforts are on to find peace between the two Chin armed groups, but end of hostilities between the groups is still eluding.
