(Video) K-pop Fans React To HI-BOYZ's Reunion Performance; Who Exactly Are They?

K-pop fans have been lighting up social media after boy group HI-BOYZ (하이보이즈) recently reunited on stage to perform their hit single 'When the Day Comes' on Mnet's M Countdown. While many were thrilled by the comeback, others were left slightly confused. Who exactly are HI-BOYZ? When and why did they disband? And why do the members look far too young for a group that supposedly broke up 12 years ago? The answer is simple: they never existed in the first place. Here's the story: For context, HI-BOYZ is a fictional K-pop boy band created for the K-drama 'Resident Playbook'. In the series, the main character, Um Jae-il (played by Kang You-seok, 강유석), was once a member of the group before it disbanded. He later goes on to pursue a career as a medical professional at Yulje Medical Centre. Two of his former bandmates, Top Key and D.I, are played by TXT's Yeonjun (최연준) and Soobin (수빈), respectively. Since the episode aired and a special music video was released, fans have been playfully acting as though they've been eagerly awaiting a HI-BOYZ reunion and comeback. When the boy group performed their hit single 'When the Day Comes' on Mnet's M Countdown yesterday (Thursday, 22nd May), those familiar with the show, particularly TXT fans, played along on social media, reacting to the 'reunion' performance as both devoted fans and playful haters. It didn't take long for the performance to go viral, thanks in large part to HI-BOYZ's most dedicated fans. Naturally, this left some K-pop fans puzzled, as many had no idea what was going on or who the boy group even was. The confusion only deepened when viewers noticed that most of the members looked far too young to be in their thirties, as the storyline would suggest. A few who recognised Yeonjun and Soobin were also confused as to why they were in a different group with different stage names. It's hard not to admire the level of commitment to the bit. 'Resident Playbook''s promotional campaign has been both clever and entertaining, especially for fans of TXT and the drama alike. Resident Playbook: Who is Kim Sa Bi's HI-BOYZ bias Topkey oppa? Mystery solved as TXT and Kang You Seok light up MCountdown

The penultimate week of Resident Playbook brought one of the show's most-awaited segments– the reveal of the members of Kang You Seok's former K-pop group, HI-BOYZ. The episode also marked the beginning of a budding romance between him and his OB-GYN colleague. When she revealed herself to be a fan, she mentioned her bias was "Topkey oppa," sparking curiosity about his identity. The mystery was finally unraveled on May 22, as the fictional group took the Mnet stage. Resident Playbook's Kim Sa Bi (Han Ye Ji) showed an unexpected side to her character as she performed a HI-BOYZ song effortlessly alongside Um Jae Il (Kang You Seok), at a karaoke. While they danced, the choreography version of the song played in the background, featuring Um Jae Il and TXT's Yeonjun and Soobin. As Um Jae Il teased her about hiding her fangirl side while working with him, she revealed she was a fan of Topkey. The revelation regarding which TXT member was the fictional Topkey, was made during HI-BOYZ's appearance on MCountdown, when the members introduced themselves. It is none other than TXT's ace, Yeonjun. He introduced himself as "Go to the top. HI-BOYZ main dancer Topkey." Um Jae Il goes by the stage name Umjay and Soobin is known as DI. Their respective positions in the group were also revealed by Namuwiki, with Topkey being the leader, main dancer, main vocalist and main rapper. The fictional group's MCountdown performance was nothing short of a real K-pop group act. For the ending fairy, Topkey made a cute gesture, indicating his name. He cracked up while doing so, creating an enduring moment.

TXT Fans Can't Keep Calm As Kai And Soobin Share ‘Kiss' In Inkigayo Episode

Last Updated: Tomorrow X Together's (TXT) Soobin and Hueningkai have set the internet ablaze with their alleged kiss. Tomorrow X Together (TXT) members Soobin and Hueningkai—also known as Kai—have sent their fandom into a frenzy yet again. A clip from the K-pop band's Inkigayo episode, which came out on May 16, has gone viral. The members, in the video, were challenged to play a classic game—Pepero—where two people must nibble on a cookie stick using just their mouths. The one who ends up with the shortest remaining piece wins. While Taehyun-Beomgyu and Yeonjun-Hueningkai made great efforts to win the game, it was Soobin and Kai who stole the show. The moment which made the fans' jaws drop happened when the last centimetre of the cookie was left, however, Kai refused to back down. He got so close in an attempt to win the game that his lips almost brushed against Soobin's. Kai grabbed Soobin by his neck to bridge the gap when the latter stepped back momentarily. The 'kiss' left the members in splits. The now-viral clip has made Moments of Alwaysness (MOA)—TXT's fandom—come up with the most hilarious reactions. Some were shocked, others laughed the entire event away, while a few claimed they needed a little time to 'cool down" after witnessing the scene. TXT's Soobin and Kai are very close in a recent video. — About Music (@AboutMusicYT) May 16, 2025 One of the users said that if they had been in Soobin's position, they would have fallen for Kai. 'I would question what we are every time I met Kai's eyes after all that," they added. Some fans declared Kai the 'real kisser" of the group and another one joked they want to be a TXT member in the next life. However, some users also accused them of queerbaiting. What's New With TXT? Soobin and Yeonjun recently appeared as guest stars in the Netflix K-drama Resident Playbook. They played members of a fictional boy group HI-BOYZ. The plot traced the life of former idol Um Jae-Il, portrayed by Kang You-Seok, with the trio even filming a special performance for the series. Their song When the Day Comes was released as part of the OST. HI-BOYZ will appear on M Countdown soon. First Published:

Netflix's first K-pop band bags M Countdown performance without even existing, tops music chart with newly released K-drama OST

Heard of HI-BOYZ yet? The fictional K-pop boy band consisting of three members, just made it to South Korea's Melon chart after a snippet of their new song was played in the ongoing K-drama Resident Playbook. The group, consisting of Um Jay, Soobin, and Top Key, just landed their first M Countdown performance as well. And while the names might not sound too familiar, the faces will definitely ring a bell. The members, other than Kang You Seok, who stars in the medical K-drama as a first-year resident, are none other than TXT members Soobin and Yeonjun. The duo made a cameo in episode 9 with a small performance on the group's original track When the Day Comes, and right after, it entered the Melon Top 100 at #79. On May 11, a full track was released featuring all five original members' voices, though only Soobin and Yeonjun played a part in the K-drama as members of HI-BOYZ. The track introduced a romantic arc between residents Um Jae Il and Kim Sa Bi. The full performance video charted #50 on May 12 at Melon. It also reached new peaks on Genie (#21), Bugs (#17), and Flo (#92), according to Nate Pann. Now, watching the growing popularity of the group, makers have decided to debut HI-BOYZ in real life, and according to Soompi, the group will be appearing on Mnet's music program. Confirming the same, a representative of M Countdown released a statement, 'It's true that HI-BOYZ from 'Resident Playbook' will be appearing on the show,' adding, 'They are scheduled to appear on the upcoming May 22 broadcast.' Interestingly, the group also has a fictional database that suggests they debuted on February 4, 2011, and disbanded on December 28, 2013. They have a fandom name called 'Hi Girls' and even a fanchant, 'Hi~ Hello Girls!' From their official band colours—Sky Blue and Vanilla Cream—to their genre described as 'early 2010s-style upbeat K-pop, with retro charm and emotional warmth,' the official description says Hi Boys debuted with Stone Entertainment. Since the OTT has marked it as a limited series, it won't be getting a season 2. The show revolves around first-year residents at Yulje Medical Center's Jongno branch, and follows the lives of Oh Yi Young, Kim Sa Bi, Um Jae Il, and Pyo Nam Kyun, all four with different personalities, as they navigate daily challenges in the OB-GYN department, going back and forth on thoughts of quitting, forming new friendships, falling in love, and more. On top of that, the show was praised for showing the lesser-seen side of the hustle in the department — the emotions at a time when South Korea is dealing with a low birth rate. Since the original Hospital Playlist also had a musical kick with members forming a band, the spinoff maintained that essence while introducing a fictional boy band. This isn't the first time a fictional band has received so much love. Earlier, Byeon Woo Seok's Lovely Runner also debuted a fictional group called Eclipse, and their OST became an overnight sensation.
