(Video) K-pop Fans React To HI-BOYZ's Reunion Performance; Who Exactly Are They?
Who exactly are HI-BOYZ? When and why did they disband? And why do the members look far too young for a group that supposedly broke up 12 years ago? The answer is simple: they never existed in the first place. Here's the story:
For context, HI-BOYZ is a fictional K-pop boy band created for the K-drama 'Resident Playbook'. In the series, the main character, Um Jae-il (played by Kang You-seok, 강유석), was once a member of the group before it disbanded. He later goes on to pursue a career as a medical professional at Yulje Medical Centre. Two of his former bandmates, Top Key and D.I, are played by TXT's Yeonjun (최연준) and Soobin (수빈), respectively.
Since the episode aired and a special music video was released, fans have been playfully acting as though they've been eagerly awaiting a HI-BOYZ reunion and comeback. When the boy group performed their hit single 'When the Day Comes' on Mnet's M Countdown yesterday (Thursday, 22nd May), those familiar with the show, particularly TXT fans, played along on social media, reacting to the 'reunion' performance as both devoted fans and playful haters.
It didn't take long for the performance to go viral, thanks in large part to HI-BOYZ's most dedicated fans. Naturally, this left some K-pop fans puzzled, as many had no idea what was going on or who the boy group even was. The confusion only deepened when viewers noticed that most of the members looked far too young to be in their thirties, as the storyline would suggest. A few who recognised Yeonjun and Soobin were also confused as to why they were in a different group with different stage names.
It's hard not to admire the level of commitment to the bit. 'Resident Playbook''s promotional campaign has been both clever and entertaining, especially for fans of TXT and the drama alike. Were you aware of HI-BOYZ lore, or were you just as lost as some K-pop fans?

(Video) G-Dragon Surprised Fans With Daisy Flowers On 37th Birthday
On 18th August 2025 (Monday), fans across the globe celebrate the 37th birthday of Korean superstar G-Dragon (지드래곤). While in most cases, the fans are the ones giving the gifts, the singer was the one who was more generous on his special day. In commemoration of his birthday, G-Dragon reportedly prepared two birthday events for his fans. Last week, the star had prepaid for 14 cafes across South Korea to offer 188 free drinks each throughout his birthday week, totalling 2,632 drinks. Later on his birthday, his fan club shared about a special 'Pink Spaceman' event that will take place around Hongdae and Hangang. For the event, a mysterious man dressed in a pink spacesuit walked around the two areas, handing out daisies for those who knew the special 'code name'. Daisies are flowers closely associated with G-Dragon and are even the motif for his lightstick. As such, fans in the area made time to find the pink spaceman to grab a daisy for themselves. However, upon meeting the spaceman, many were convinced that the man in the suit was G-Dragon. One fan explained, 'I think the Pink (Space)Man is GD. 1. His height is similar (to GD), 2. His dance moves stood out, 3. When I called 'Jiyong', he looked back automatically.' Unfortunately, the suit's helmet did too good a job at concealing the man's identity, and G-Dragon also never clarified the rumours. Nevertheless, fans are praising the BIGBANG (빅뱅) leader for preparing the event, even walking around in the suit to celebrate his birthday with fans. Besides the two events, G-Dragon was also featured in two new projects on his birthday. The rapper was featured in Vince's (빈스) new song, 'CHA CHA CHA (차차차)', and a video on comedian Yoo Byung Jae's (유병재) YouTube channel. At the same time, BIGBANG is also celebrating their 19th anniversary today (19th August 2025), with fans from all over the world chiming in with congratulatory messages for the K-pop group. Even on his birthday, G-Dragon can't hide his generosity and love for fans. We can't wait to see what the star has in store for fans in the future. In the meantime, check out his featuring on 'CHA CHA CHA' and his appearance on Yoo Byung Jae's YouTube video: Sources: Twitter (1)(2)(3)(4)

McDonald's Teases BTS TinyTan & Happy Meal Collaboration
A few years ago, McDonald's launched their collaboration with K-pop group BTS (방탄소년단), sparking a worldwide frenzy. Recently, the fast food giant teased that they're collaborating with the global sensations once again. Earlier this year, the official McDonald's Twitter account posted a vague tweet that read, 'idk about u, but I miss my K-pop era a Tiny bit too much'. While the account is no stranger to posting quirky tweets and memes, this particular post piqued the interest of many ARMYs (BTS fans). Many believed that the tweet was a hint that the company is launching a new collaboration with the K-pop group. To recap, in 2021, BTS and McDonald's launched a collaboration meal, dubbed the BTS Meal. The collaboration menu featured 10 pieces of chicken nuggets, a large fries, a large drink and two dipping sauces in sweet chilli and cajun flavours. More importantly, the meal also included an exclusive, limited-edition purple McDonald's packaging with the BTS logo. The collaboration was launched worldwide, including Malaysia. The collaboration was an instant success and helped introduce McDonald's second K-pop meal featuring NewJeans. Since then, ARMYs have hoped for another large-scale partnership between BTS and the fast food giant. After sharing the cryptic tweet, McDonald's shared another teaser, this time clearly highlighting a collaboration with TinyTan, the animated character franchise based on BTS. According to news reports, McDonald's will launch a new set of toys for Happy Meal featuring the TinyTan characters. The launch is said to be on 2nd September 2025 (Tuesday), but this detail hasn't been confirmed yet. Additionally, there is no news on whether the collaboration will be a US-exclusive or a global release. Nevertheless, ARMYs are excited about the new meal, saying they're already prepared to get a Happy Meal for themselves. From the looks of it, it does seem that this new Happy Meal collaboration will be another instant hit. Are you looking forward to this new BTS meal? Sources: Twitter, Instagram
