Royal Air Maroc, Al Barid Bank Launch Digital Payment Solution at Casablanca Airport
Marrakech – Royal Air Maroc (RAM) and Al Barid Bank have unveiled a pioneering digital service at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca. This innovative solution aims to enhance the passenger experience by combining technological advancement with personalized customer service. According to the joint statement, the partnership between RAM and Al Barid Bank has resulted in the development of 'Barid Payment Mobile,' an integrated mobile application that operates on tablets equipped with NFC payment terminals. This technology enables passengers to make contactless payments by simply approaching the terminal with their bank card or smartphone. According to the same source, this solution eliminates traditional payment terminals, offering a faster, smoother, and fully mobile experience, allowing customers to complete transactions directly on the agent's mobile terminal in a simple and secure manner. More than 24 specially trained agents will assist travelers throughout the airport, offering a range of additional services including 'Select Seat' for preferred seating, access to Business Lounges, Business Class upgrades subject to availability, and the exclusive 'Loft' service that combines Premium Lounge access with Fast Track privileges. The initiative will initially be implemented at Casablanca Airport, then gradually expanded to Paris Orly and eventually to other airports. Three dedicated counters have been strategically positioned in key areas of the passenger journey: check-in, transit, and boarding zones. 'It is part of a global program to transform the customer experience, from the purchase of tickets through our new mobile application and website to the baggage delivery process,' he continued, adding that this program will span 12 months, with the ambition of elevating Casablanca to the status of a regional aviation hub of reference. Al Amine Nejjar, Chairman of Al Barid Bank's Management Board, voiced their pride in putting their digital payment expertise at the service of this pioneering initiative with Royal Air Maroc. 'This partnership illustrates our common desire to innovate to simplify the daily lives of citizens and travelers, by offering Barid Payment Mobile, a secure and cutting-edge soft POS solution,' he noted. This initiative marks a major step in the digitalization of air transport services, concludes the statement. Royal Air Maroc CEO Frustrated Over Boeing Delivery Delays, Says Situation Is Improving
Rabat – Hamid Addou, CEO of Morocco's national carrier Royal Air Maroc (RAM), shared the company's ambitions, plan, as well as frustration over the delay in submitting ordered aircraft from Boeing. He made his remarks during a recent interview with CNN, in which he shared Royal Air Maroc's heavy investments, but also setbacks, as some aircraft arrive up to 18 months late. 'You have to offer your customers what they're paying for. And in the economy… You have to offer the kind of service they're expecting. So we need to invest in the product, and we are already doing it,' Addou said. He said that, of course, one feels frustrated when you have 15 to 18 months late deliveries. Addou acknowledged that all executives and airlines face the same issue, promising that 'things are evolving in the right direction. Well, we just received three MAX's this week.' RAM's CEO added that Royal Air Maroc is set to receive seven of its ordered fleet by the end of December, noting that things are 'getting better.' 'Based on my information, the rhythm of production is increasing, which is a good sign,' Addou noted, adding that the company trusts its partners. The remarks came just a few days before an agreement between Boeing and Casablanca's Aironautique, a subsidiary of France's Fiageac Aero Group. Under the deal, the two parties will produce parts for the 737 MAX. Earlier this month, converging reports indicated that Royal Air Maroc is in the final stages of a significant aircraft deal with Boeing, alongside a smaller agreement with Airbus. Bloomberg cited sources familiar with the matter as saying that the Boeing order could be delayed, potentially pending a high-level meeting between King Mohammed VI and US President Donald Trump. During his interview with CNN, Addou also shared Royal Air Maroc's point of strength, noting that while the GCC Airlines focus more on Asia, RAM has a stronger presence on the south-north route between Africa and Europe. 'Where it's complicated for us to compete is against low-cost carriers,' the CEO of Royal Air Maroc said, adding that Morocco has over 40 competitors that will need a new model and a new market. Addou also thanked RAM's teams for developing new markets to compete against companies like Wizz, EasyJet, and Ryanair. He pledged that Royal Air Maroc is developing a different market in Africa, citing the company's strategy to put different and special plans for customers, in line with Morocco's culture. ' I think that if you want to feel again the first experience of the country, the airline is the best way to start a good journey,' he said. Royal Air Maroc Expands Summer Capacity to Record 6.6 Million Seats Amid Travel Surge
Morocco's national carrier, Royal Air Maroc (RAM), will offer a record 6.6 million seats for summer 2025, up by more than 700,000 from last year, as part of a major ramp-up to meet surging travel demand, particularly from the Moroccan diaspora, the airline said Monday. The expanded schedule includes over 95 destinations, with new long-haul routes to São Paulo, Beijing, Toronto, and Catania, and additional domestic and African frequencies. RAM also added a third London route via Stansted, supplementing its existing services from Heathrow and Gatwick. The carrier is modernizing its fleet with eight new aircrafts, including two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and six Boeing 737 MAX 8s, reducing reliance on leased aircraft. It will, however, wet-lease four additional planes for the season to cover peak demand across Casablanca, Tangier, Nador, and Oujda. RAM is also overhauling its Casablanca hub operations with new scheduling windows to improve connectivity—dedicating overnight slots to European routes and daytime slots to African destinations. The expansion is part of RAM's broader strategy to position Morocco as a strategic aviation hub and improve the passenger experience, CEO Hamid Addou said. Flight frequencies to several destinations have also been increased: Nouakchott now has nine weekly flights, while Dakar benefits from two daily connections, totaling 14 flights per week. At Casablanca airport, new time slots have been introduced to facilitate connections. Night flights will serve key European cities, including Brussels, Paris Orly, Paris CDG, Milan, Bologna, and London Stansted. Meanwhile, a daytime schedule is dedicated to flights to Africa, covering destinations such as Dakar, Abidjan, Bamako, Lagos, and Conakry. Direct connections between Casablanca and Malaga, Valencia, Lisbon, and Porto will be operated using medium-haul aircraft such as the Boeing 737 and Embraer 190, with operations also extending to Tangier, Nador, and Oujda. «All Royal Air Maroc teams are fully mobilized to make this summer season a success, especially for our fellow citizens living abroad, by ensuring the best possible customer experience», said Hamid Addou, CEO of Royal Air Maroc.
