German-Afghan officials meet over plan to deport Afghans
Germany's interior minister said last week he would seek direct contact with the Taliban administration to devise a plan for deporting criminals to Afghanistan. His comments drew criticism from the United Nations. According to Bild newspaper, August Hanning, head of foreign intelligence (BND) in the early 2000s, and Karzai -- in power between 2001 and 2014 -- met recently in a prestigious Berlin hotel. Karzai has retained "informal" contacts with Taliban authorities, Hanning told broadcaster Welt TV, adding that he had "no official mandate" from the German government. During the meeting, Hanning said he discussed the establishment of an area in Afghanistan to accommodate Afghans sent back to their homeland under German supervision. Germany stopped deportations to Afghanistan and closed its embassy in Kabul following the Taliban's return to power in 2021. Berlin has had only indirect contact with the Taliban authorities through third parties. Advertisement But a debate over resuming expulsions has flared as migration becomes a key issue amid the rise of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. Twenty-eight Afghan nationals who had been convicted of crimes were deported in August last year after Germany's previous government carried out indirect negotiations with the Taliban.

She Lost Her 2-Year-Old Daughter in a Murder-Suicide. Now She's Speaking Out About the Killer's Mindset
Adalynn Mae Sadler, 2, was killed by her grandfather Leroy Sadler in a murder-suicide on May 5 in Louisiana. Her grandmother Judy Sadler, 64, and father James Sadler, 29, were also killed. The child's mother, Kara Hanning, says she is in shock that this happened because Leroy "loved that baby so much." Hanning also said that she does not hate Leroy, and notes that he recently lost his stepdaughter to cancer and learned that his wife was sickA Louisiana mother whose 2-year-old daughter was killed by her grandfather in a murder-suicide is speaking out about the tragedy, and revealing that she is still searching for answers. Adalynn Mae Sadler was shot dead by her grandfather Leroy Sadler, 60, in the early morning hours of May 5 while visiting his home in Keithville, according to the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office. Deputies also found her grandmother Judy, 64, and father James, 29, deceased at the scene. In the wake of this tragedy, Adalynn's mother Kara Hanning spoke with KSLA about her loss as she prepared to bury her only child — on Mother's Day. 'I'm completely at a loss for words for that, because he loved that baby so much,' she said of Adalynn's relationship with her grandfather. She added, "He did love her, and I don't know what caused this to happen or what he must have been going through. I feel terrible because I wish he had asked for help.'Hanning also described the sense of dread she felt that morning when someone informed her of an incident that had occurred on the street where Adalynn's grandparents live. She was at work at the time, and said that she immediately called Adalynn's babysitter to make sure her daughter had been dropped off that morning. The babysitter told her that she had not seen Adalynn or her father that day. Hanning next tried to contact Leroy, Judy and James to check on her daughter, but got no response. At that point, Hanning decided to drive home, and said that as soon as she pulled into her driveway she was approached by detectives. "And they just looked at me with the saddest expression and I lost it. I did, because I don't think anybody would want to lose their baby like that," Hanning said. The CPSO said that deputies responded to the residence just before 7 a.m. on May 6 in response to a welfare call and tried to engage with an individual inside the home. A short time later, deputies heard a single gunshot from inside the residence, and upon entering the home discovered the bodies of the deceased. Hanning said that Leroy's stepdaughter had died of cancer just a few months prior, and he had also learned that his wife was sick. She also said that she wishes she could have spoken to him about his struggles. 'I feel terrible because I wish he would've asked for help for whatever he was going through, and I don't know what pain he must've been going through,' Hanning said. She then said that despite his actions, she does not hate Leroy. 'I can't hate him. I will never be able to hate him,' Hanning said. 'I forgive him for his actions. I wish it never happened, but I have no hate in my heart for that man." A family member has since created a GoFundMe to help Hanning cover the cost of her daughter's funeral and other expenses. CADDO PARISH, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Kara Hanning says May 5 was the hardest day she has ever gone through. It was a day when a mother lost her 2-year-old daughter. On May 5, around 9 am, friends contacted Kara Hanning asking if she and her daughter Adalynn Mae were okay. The friends said they heard about a murder-suicide on Mustang Circle in Keithville. The house that the friends saw on social media was Adalynn Mae's grandparents' house. 'I start walking to their house, and I get stopped by the detectives and a couple police officers, and I tell them, 'That's where my baby is at. Is my baby okay?' And they just looked at me with the saddest eyes, and I broke down,' said Hanning. Hanning says her daughter had the prettiest blue eyes and the biggest smile. She says Adalynn Mae was full of life and captured the hearts of anyone who met her. Death of Minden couple under investigation, Webster Parish Sheriff says 'She was sassy, the biggest sass you've ever seen. She was not scared to tell you what she thought or what she wanted. She was always bullying me into putting her songs or her TV shows on, and she knew what song she wanted to listen to. It was one word, but she would tell me she loved the five little monkeys. And she would tell me, 'Mama monkey song, monkey song,'' says Hanning. In the Zoom interview, Hanning was sitting next to her cousin, Morgan McCarty, who had organized a GoFundMe to support her family. 'I did not know what to do, all I knew was that I needed to be here in whatever way possible and be able to support in whatever way possible and if we could take one thing off of her plate that's what we wanted to do,' said Morgan McCarty, cousin to Kara Hanning. WOMB Talk Luncheon set to empower and uplift women in Shreveport Hanning says she has been amazed by and is eternally grateful for the community's love, prayers, and donations. 'I've been crying so much just from all the love I have been receiving from people I don't even know and people I haven't talked to for years. You know everybody has just been coming- talking to me, talking to my family, and just so much love, and I'm beyond grateful,' says Hanning. McCarty adds, 'When we've needed people the most, they show up, and I think the only way we're all going to get through this, or you're [Hanning] going to be able to get through any of this, is with family and with faith and with community and with that support. I want to say thank you to everyone as well.' More Local News Hanning says her baby was the light of her world. She says she took Adalynn Mae everywhere, and they did so much together. 'How can any mother feel after losing her baby. One minute I'm okay, the next minute I'm not. I'm trying to take it day by day and grieve how I can grieve. That's been the biggest thing that everybody has told me,' said Hanning. The mother says she wishes to express her gratitude to Rose-Neath Funeral Home for all the support and kindness shown to her family. 'Love everybody you can, all your family, all your friends. Always shower them with your love, and hug them, because you don't know when they are not going to be here, and you need to show that as much as you can,' said Hanning.
