10 country-made bombs seized in Outer Delhi: 2 years on, cops dispose of them
More than two years after 10 country-made bombs were seized at an abandoned plot in Outer Delhi's Holambi Kalan area, the bombs were finally disposed of on Sunday, said police. 'The Bomb Disposal Squad and the National Security Guard (NSG) carried out proper inspection and neutralisation procedures as per the established safety protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and all 10 country-made bombs were disposed of for the purpose of further investigation and necessary action,' DCP (Outer North) Hareshwar Swami said. Apart from the teams from the NSG, Bomb Disposal Squad, FSL (Rohini) teams had also come at the spot where the bombs were buried after a letter was sent by the police for the disposal of the bombs. According to the police, the bombs were seized on April 10, 2023, at an abandoned plot at Metro Vihar area in Holambi Kalan. The police had received a tip-off that a man named Deepak, 33, was in possession of country-made grenades. Deepak was apprehended the same night, and led the police to the plot where he had hidden a grey bucket, filled with 10 country-made bombs. 'Deepak told the police that he was given the bucket about 10 days back by his neighbour, who asked him to keep it safe for some money,' a police officer said. The neighbour, along with two more suspects were arrested by the police and are currently undergoing trial, a police official said. Deepak was released late. A case was registered under the Explosives act and section 286 of the Indian Penal Code at Narela Industrial Area police station in April 2023. 'The bombs were disposed of after the officials felt that the probe had reached a level where the explosives may no longer be needed for an investigation,' the officer added.

Minor, 8 weeks pregnant, dies by suicide in Delhi's Bawana; police look for former live-in partner
A 17-year-old pregnant girl in Delhi's Bawana allegedly died by suicide earlier this week, the police said on Thursday, adding that they were on the lookout for her former live-in partner, who is absconding. The incident took place on Monday, and the girl was alone at her elder sister's house at the time, the police said. The minor was allegedly eight weeks pregnant and had frequent altercations with her former live-in partner, who is around 22-23 years old, the police added. The minor's former partner was booked on Monday under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 7 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act on charges of abetment to suicide and sexual assault. According to the police, the girl's family and her live-in partner, who is around 22-23 years old, were from the same area in Bihar. The man frequently visited the girl's sister's house while she was staying there. 'They soon started a relationship, and soon after that, the two moved in together. The girl's family was aware of this relationship,' Hareshwar Swami, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Outer North, said. In her statement to the police, the victim's elder sister said the man was abusive and often physically violent towards the minor. 'After a while, her family decided to take her back to their native place in Bihar. The man followed to convince the girl's family to bring her back,' said DCP Swami. When the girl returned, his abusive behaviour continued, the police said. On Monday, the girl's sister was away at work in a factory in Bawana when she allegedly died by suicide. Passersby rushed her to a nearby hospital, but she was declared dead. The police said they have not found a suicide note or any information on her phone to indicate what led her to take such a step.

Delhi: 3 minors held for killing teen; body recovered after 3 months
New Delhi, Jul 17 (PTI) Three minors were apprehended for allegedly strangling a teenage boy, gouging out his eyes to prevent identification, and burying his body near the Yamuna riverbank in Alipur after he resisted a mobile snatching bid, an official said on Thursday. The deceased, identified as Sonu Kumar (18), had been missing since April. His skeleton was recovered from a three-foot-deep pit, the official added. The breakthrough came during routine patrolling by a police team on Wednesday, when three minors riding a black motorcycle without a number plate were intercepted after they tried to flee upon noticing the police vehicle. The trio, all aged 16, were apprehended and brought in for questioning. Additionally, a neon-coloured mobile phone was recovered from one of the accused. 'When asked to produce ownership documents, the suspect failed to do so and eventually confessed to having snatched the phone," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outernorth) Hareshwar Swami said. The accused juveniles also confessed to having used a stolen motorcycle. During sustained interrogation, the minors revealed that they had targeted a passerby near the Yamuna riverbank, and upon facing resistance, allegedly strangled him and buried the body near the water body to conceal the crime. They also gouged out his eyes to prevent identification, the officer said. The police team accompanied the minors to the location between Shank Nos. 16 and 17 on the riverbank, where a three-foot-deep pit was found. 'With assistance from the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Alipur, Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), and the Mobile Crime Team, a skeleton was recovered from the site and sent for medico-legal examination at the Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital," the DCP added. A case was registered at the Alipur Police Station under Sections 103(1) (murder), 238(A) (causing the disappearance of evidence of an offence or providing false information to screen an offender), and 3(5) (joint liability) of the BNS, he said. The police identified the victim after tracing the mobile phone's IMEI number. They then contacted Sonu's family, who confirmed that he had been missing for the past three months and that his phone had been switched off. Teenager murdered, body dumped in Munak Canal; 4 juveniles among 6 nabbed
A day after the naked body of a 14-year-old boy was found in Munak Canal at Haiderpur, the police on Wednesday arrested two men and apprehended four juveniles in connection with the murder. The police had on Tuesday discovered the body of the boy in the canal, with a scarf wrapped around his neck and multiple stab wounds on his body. A case under sections 103(1) (murder) and 238(b) (causing disappearance of evidence) of BNS was registered. 'The probe revealed that the murder stemmed from a personal enmity,' said an officer. While a 19-year-old man was the first to be arrested, a 16-year-old juvenile was apprehended along with him. Their questioning led to the arrest of an 18-year-old boy while three more juvenile boys were apprehended. During the probe, it emerged that the 19-year-old had been nursing a grudge against the victim since last Diwali, when he was beaten up by two alleged local criminals, both now in jail under MCOCA. 'The 19-year-old man suspected that the victim and a couple of his friends were police informers and had connived with the two local criminals to assault him last Diwali. He was planning to take revenge for a long time. On the intervening night of June 29 and 30, the 19-year-old and the 18-year-old, along with six others, executed the murder,' said DCP (Outer North) Hareshwar Swami. The police said the group allegedly procured knives and intercepted the 14-year-old near a market, physically assaulted him, and forcibly abducted him on a motorcycle. 'They then took him to the Munak Canal, gagged him with a scarf to muffle his screams, stripped him, discarded his clothes in the water, and beat him again before taking turns to stab him. Once he succumbed, they dumped his body in the canal and fled,' said an officer. The police said a search is underway to trace two other suspects, believed to have escaped to Haridwar.
