Delhi cop hangs self at her home in Rohini

New Delhi, Jul 25 (PTI) A 29-year-old Delhi Police sub-inspector allegedly died by suicide at her residence in Rohini on Friday, an official said.
The deceased, identified as Savita, a 2021-batch sub-inspector posted at Aman Vihar police station in outer Delhi, was found hanging at her home in Sector-11 in Rohini, he said.
'An information regarding the incident was received on Friday afternoon from the Sector-11 area. The woman, a native of Chhara village in Haryana's Jhajjar district, lived in a third-floor flat in Rohini," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outernorth) Hareshwar Swami said.
The officer said that the sub-inspector's brother found the main door locked from inside and forced entry by breaking the wire mesh. He found her hanging from the ceiling fan and immediately brought her down.
'Further inquest proceedings are being carried out under Section 174 CrPC. No suicide note has been recovered so far," the officer said, adding that the body has been preserved for post-mortem examination.
The police are speaking to Savita's family members and colleagues to ascertain the possible reason behind the extreme step.
The circumstances leading to her death are under investigation, and her mobile phone and personal belongings have been seized for forensic examination, the officer added. PTI SSJ NB NB

Kerala Doctor Duped Of Rs 4.43 Crore In WhatsApp Trading Scam, Two Arrested
The Kerala police detected as many as 18 more accounts in the name of various individuals to transfer the money earned through online fraud. A doctor in Kerala was scammed of Rs 4.43 crore after falling victim to a fraudulent WhatsApp scheme. The state's cybercrime unit has arrested two men in connection with the case, according to officials quoted by IANS. The accused have been identified as Mehbubasha Farooq and Rijaz, and they were arrested in Chennai by the Kannur City Cyber Crime Police. While Farooq hails from Chennai, Rijaj is a resident of Perumbavoor in Ernakulam district and has been settled in Chennai. The two accused allegedly ran a scam via WhatsApp, luring the victim with promises of high returns from investments in a fake online trading platform. According to police, the accused added the doctor — a resident of Mattannur in Kerala's Kannur district — to a WhatsApp group in June, where they promoted an online share trading scheme and promised large profits. The victim was asked to send money to several bank accounts under the pretext of a 'wealth profit plan' linked to a fictitious company named Upstock. 'We have traced about Rs 40 lakh deposited by the accused in their accounts. Besides this, the police detected as many as 18 more accounts in the name of various individuals to transfer the money earned through online fraud. The matter is under investigation now," said the officer. He also confirmed that no links to terrorism had been uncovered during the inquiry. Though the trading app would show the profits earned, he found the platform unresponsive and could not withdraw the amount, prompting him to approach the police to file a complaint with the police on June 25. 'The victim was led to believe he was making lucrative investments, but the entire setup was a sham," the cyber police said. The incident came to light after the cybercrime team tracked down the suspects by following the trail of bank account numbers and mobile phones used in the fraud. A deeper investigation led them to Chennai, where the two accused were arrested. The officer added that they are now looking into whether a larger network is involved and if there are more victims connected to the online scam. The SC on stray dog menace: 'Will these animal activists be able to bring back children who have fallen prey to rabies? We need to make streets absolutely free of stray dogs." The Supreme Court, while hearing a suo motu case against stray dogs attacking childre n, said that strict action would be taken against any individual or organisation coming in the way of picking up stray dogs by authorities. A bench of Justices J B Pardiwala and R Mahadevan said as of now, dog shelters should be created to accommodate around 5,000 stray dogs and sufficient personnel should be deployed there to sterilise and immunise the canines. It said the stray dogs be kept at dog shelters and not be released on streets, colonies and public places. the bench remarked, further stating that it would not permit the adoption of stray dogs. The top court had on July 28 taken suo motu cognisance of a media report of dog bite incident leading to rabies in Delhi. Infants, children, aged should not fall prey to rabies: SC 'We need to pick up round up with whatever means to ensure dog free locality and that's how children and aged will feel safe. Have you seen the classic 'Good, Bad and the Ugly' – when you want to shoot, shoot don't talk. It's not the time to talk but act," the SC said. 'Infants and young children, not at any cost, should fall prey of rabies. The action should inspire confidence that they can move freely without fear of being bitten by stray dogs. No sentiments should be involved." Create helpline within a week: SC The SC also directed the authorities to create a helpline within a week so that all dog bite cases are reported immediately. 'Create helpline within one week so that all cases of dog bites and rabies are reported. Action should be taken within four hours to pick up dog after complaint is received and any action of individual or organisation coming in the way will be taken with stern action. The said dog will be sterilised and shall not be released," the SC said. Set up dog shelters within eight weeks: SC 'Civic authorities in the Delhi-NCR region have been directed to make dog shelters and report about creation of infrastructure within eight weeks. It must have sufficient personnel for sterilised, dogs who would be detained there and not released in public places. It will be monitored by CCTV to monitor that no dogs are taken out," the SC said. 'We are issuing these directions keeping larger public interest in mind," the bench said. UP: Chinese national held for trying to enter India without travel documents
Maharajganj (UP), Aug 11 (PTI) A 62-year-old Chinese national was arrested in Sonauli area along the Indo-Nepal border here while allegedly trying to enter India without valid travel documents, a police official said on Monday. Zhang Yong, who was coming to India from Nepal, was arrested by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) during routine checking in Sonauli area on Sunday evening, Station Officer of Sonauli police station Ajeet Pratap Singh said. He had a Chinese passport, but no Indian visa papers and valid documents. Singh said legal action is being taken against the Chinese citizen and he is being questioned.
