Who Should Succeed MobLand's Conrad? Pierce Brosnan Weighs In

Conrad Harrigan, patriarch of Paramount+'s MobLand, has built a criminal empire that — if Fisk doesn't get to it first — could very likely outlive him. Which raises a salient point: Which of Conrad's children is best suited to run the family business in his stead? Let's just go ahead and ignore the cliffhanger that ended last week's episode, in which Conrad's son, Brendan, and daughter, Seraphina, were in the middle of a shootout organized by their father's biggest rival. Let's assume for now that all Harrigan offspring are on the table — not that it really mattered when we asked series star Pierce Brosnan. 'Harry,' Brosnan said instantly, skipping over all of Conrad and Maeve's children (and Seraphina, his love child) in favor of the family fixer played by Tom Hardy. 'Kevin is just, he's not on the ticket. He's not strong enough. He's not cunning enough,' he added, citing the character played by Paddy Considine. Wife Maeve (played by Helen Mirren), Brendan (Daniel Betts), Seraphina (Mandeep Dhillon) and grandson Eddie (Anson Boone) don't even get a mention. 'I can't trust anyone, and we're at a very crucial and critical point when the curtain goes up with this family. And then those cracks begin to appear more and more as the episodes go on.' Still, it makes sense. Harry 'is like a son. I treat him like a son,' Brosnan said. 'He is my son, in some regards.' As viewers have seen throughout the series so far, Harry has, indeed, engaged in all manner of dubious behavior on behalf of his Irish gangster boss, perpetrating violence and manipulation that even some of the Harrigans wouldn't do. (Just wait until you see what he pulls off in this Sunday's hour.) His actions therefore have earned him a high resting point in Conrad's esteem. 'Conrad, he's a pretty mangled fellow,' Brosnan said. 'He comes from an abusive family, and that perpetuates itself within this family. He doesn't trust many people.' We, of course, shared Brosnan's choice with Hardy, who quickly co-signed. 'I don't think [Harry] beats around the bush. He's very honest, as regards situational awareness and getting ahead of a problem and what potential and viable options there are for you to choose… and the possible outcomes of that,' he said. 'But he doesn't influence an agenda, more just presents options — which, you know, are filtered through what's best for Conrad.' MobLand streams new episodes Sundays on Paramount+. It should be illegal for TV baddies to profit from their psychopathic acts

I'm about to give away the opening scene of the latest gangsters-are-cool drama MobLand. Don't worry. It won't spoil anything. By the end of this review you won't want to watch even a moment of this dog's breakfast of an atrocity of charmless, witless, misbegotten, amoral tripe anyway. So we're in a basement with Tom Hardy, playing his usual amiably ruthless hard-man character. This time he's called Harry Da Souza and he's the chief fixer for a London-based Irish crime family called the Harrigans. On this occasion, Da Souza is mediating between two lower-tier rival gangs, whom he has orders to make apologise to one another. After much tense negotiation, the gang leaders agree to shake hands but refuse to apologise. Da Souza goes upstairs to where his boss Conrad Harrigan (Pierce Brosnan) is enjoying an elegant solo dinner and enquires whether this will be sufficient. It isn't. So Da Souza returns to the basement, gives his associates the nod, and all the recalcitrant gang members are machine-gunned to death. I suppose the idea of this establishing scene is to demonstrate the capriciousness, the brutal pragmatism and kingpin-ish power of Harrigan, the loyalty and efficiency of Da Souza, and – to the viewer – 'If you like mindless violence, mate, this is just for starters: plenty more where this came from.' But to me, it just signalled desperation, implausibility and ugliness. What crime boss of Harrigan's supposed calibre would allow people to be killed so messily on his property? Think of the possible ricochets in an enclosed space; think of the blood traces and embedded bullets, a gift to any potential future forensics examination.

Here's The Biggest New Show Of 2025 No One Is Talking About

Mobland I've noticed a sharp disconnect between many media critics and what people are actually watching around the streaming internet. Sometimes they overlap, like with endless thinkpieces on Netflix's Adolescence or HBO's White Lotus. Other times, things seem to be flying completely under the radar. This appears to be the case with what is arguably the biggest new series of 2025, and I believe it's being ignored in part because of where it's airing, Paramount Plus, which is often not given the space it deserves by the media. See also big, somewhat ignored hits like 1923 and Landman. The new show we're talking about here is Mobland. This is the synopsis: 'The Harrigans, a London crime family, find themselves in a battle with the Stevensons that could end empires and their lives. Harry Da Souza is called upon by the Harrigans to be their "fixer" and to protect their family.' The cast is exceptional. It stars everyone's favorite James Bond (sorry Connery and Craig) Pierce Brosnan, recently-departed Venom (with a ton of other great films under his belt) Tom Hardy, House of the Dragon standout and acting legend Paddy Considine and finally, Oscar-winner Helen Mirren as the matriarch of the central crime family. The entire thing is directed by Guy Ritchie of Snatch, Lock Stock, Sherlock Holmes, The Man from UNCLE, The Gentlemen, The Covenant and many other shows and films. Just an incredible pedigree for the series. Mobland And people are watching. Mobland broke a global launch record for Paramount Global with 2.2 million viewers for the first episode. It's also on the service's all-time list now alongside 1923 and Landman. The series has gotten good reviews. A 79% critic score, verified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, and a somewhat lower, but still positive audience score of 68%. Keep in mind massive hits on Paramount like 1923 have a 51% audience score and Landman has a close to identical 79% critic and 62% audience score. You don't need dual 100%s to find success in this business, only a good concept and great cast, which both those other shows have as well. Paramount has proven great at grabbing high profile stars as of late, with Harrison Ford and Billy Bob Thornton leading those other two series, and now this amazing Mobland cast. Mobland has only just gotten started with two episodes, and the 10 episode run (which you see increasingly infrequently in the streaming era) is going to be on all the way through June, not doing a Netflix binge style drop. Expect a lot more chatter as more and more people discover it. Albeit perhaps not too many critics, it seems.
