Here's The Biggest New Show Of 2025 No One Is Talking About
Mobland
I've noticed a sharp disconnect between many media critics and what people are actually watching around the streaming internet. Sometimes they overlap, like with endless thinkpieces on Netflix's Adolescence or HBO's White Lotus. Other times, things seem to be flying completely under the radar.
This appears to be the case with what is arguably the biggest new series of 2025, and I believe it's being ignored in part because of where it's airing, Paramount Plus, which is often not given the space it deserves by the media. See also big, somewhat ignored hits like 1923 and Landman. The new show we're talking about here is Mobland. This is the synopsis:
'The Harrigans, a London crime family, find themselves in a battle with the Stevensons that could end empires and their lives. Harry Da Souza is called upon by the Harrigans to be their "fixer" and to protect their family.'
The cast is exceptional. It stars everyone's favorite James Bond (sorry Connery and Craig) Pierce Brosnan, recently-departed Venom (with a ton of other great films under his belt) Tom Hardy, House of the Dragon standout and acting legend Paddy Considine and finally, Oscar-winner Helen Mirren as the matriarch of the central crime family. The entire thing is directed by Guy Ritchie of Snatch, Lock Stock, Sherlock Holmes, The Man from UNCLE, The Gentlemen, The Covenant and many other shows and films. Just an incredible pedigree for the series.
Mobland
And people are watching. Mobland broke a global launch record for Paramount Global with 2.2 million viewers for the first episode. It's also on the service's all-time list now alongside 1923 and Landman.
The series has gotten good reviews. A 79% critic score, verified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, and a somewhat lower, but still positive audience score of 68%. Keep in mind massive hits on Paramount like 1923 have a 51% audience score and Landman has a close to identical 79% critic and 62% audience score. You don't need dual 100%s to find success in this business, only a good concept and great cast, which both those other shows have as well. Paramount has proven great at grabbing high profile stars as of late, with Harrison Ford and Billy Bob Thornton leading those other two series, and now this amazing Mobland cast.
Mobland has only just gotten started with two episodes, and the 10 episode run (which you see increasingly infrequently in the streaming era) is going to be on all the way through June, not doing a Netflix binge style drop. Expect a lot more chatter as more and more people discover it. Albeit perhaps not too many critics, it seems.

Warner Bros. Discovery Bet on All You Can Eat. Viewers Wanted More à la Carte.
Two years ago, the proposition seemed simple enough. After the blockbuster merger of WarnerMedia and Discovery, the leaders of the newly formed company announced plans to take two different types of programming and smash them together to form an unbeatable streaming service called Max. HBO's lean-in original content would be combined with Discovery's vast collection of lean-back unscripted programming. HBO originals like 'The Last of Us' and 'Succession' would get people to subscribe and watch intently at night, and Discovery's broad array of cable shows like 'The Property Brothers' and 'Naked and Afraid' would get them to stay and keep the streaming service running all day in the background. 'Together, they pack a really powerful one-two punch,' David Zaslav, the chief executive of Warner Bros. Discovery, said in 2023. It is now clear that one of the punches never really landed. On Monday, Warner Bros. Discovery announced that it would split into two companies. One will operate the cable networks, like TNT and CNN, along with Discovery's old properties, which include the Food Network, HGTV, TLC and the Discovery+ streaming app. The other company will own HBO, HBO Max, and the Warner Bros. and DC studio businesses. Mr. Zaslav said the separate companies would be more nimble and aggressive to 'unlock value.' There's no doubt that the change is largely in response to the reality of today's cable business, which is rapidly losing viewership, revenue and relevance. Competing against giants like Netflix with an all-you-can-eat streaming buffet, the thinking now goes, is not a viable game plan. NBCUniversal announced a similar spinoff of most of its cable properties last year. But it is also a response to two years of streaming viewing data from Warner Bros. Discovery's flagship service. People who subscribe to Max watch HBO content like 'The White Lotus,' studio movies, older Warner Bros. series like 'Friends' and 'The West Wing' — and little else. With the exception of a few properties, like programs from the ID cable network, subscribers have mostly ignored Discovery's enormous assortment of lowbrow reality shows and unscripted lifestyle content. So, Who Is The Father Of Georgia's Baby In Ginny & Georgia Season 3?
Spoilers below. Somebody get Maury Povich in touch with Georgia Miller. The 'Mayoress Murderess' of Wellsbury and co-lead protagonist of Netflix's hit dramedy Ginny & Georgia is officially pregnant again—for real this time!—and she might need some help determining paternity. In season 3, Georgia fakes a pregnancy using her daughter's (real) positive pregnancy test, so as to convince her husband, Mayor Paul Randolph, not to divorce her during her ongoing murder trial. But before she makes this objectively awful decision, Georgia first comforts her daughter, Ginny, after the latter has an abortion. As the two cuddle on the couch, Georgia shares that, when she herself was pregnant as a teenager, she wanted 'milk, just all the time. Straight from the carton. I would've sucked a cow.' She also jokes to Ginny, 'We are very fertile. Men sneeze at me, I'm ovulatin'. I had two kids before I could legally order a margarita.' Both throwaway lines serve as foreshadowing for what's to come in the finale episode, when a freed Georgia trots through the kitchen, drinking a quart of milk straight from the carton. 'Mom,' a startled Ginny begins, 'didn't you say you drink milk when you're pregnant?' The look on Georgia's face quickly confirms Ginny's suspicions. So has show creator Sarah Lampert, who asserts that Georgia is indeed pregnant. The big question everyone's asking, then: Who's the father? As Lampert joked to Netflix's Tudum, 'Ginny gets pregnant, Georgia fakes a pregnancy, and then Georgia really gets pregnant, and we don't know who the dad is. And when you say these things out loud, you're like, "What in the world is this show?!"' (A fair question.) There are two potential options for the baby's father, as far as the audience knows: Mayor Paul and Blue Farm Café owner Joe, who first met Georgia as a teenager. Earlier in the season, Georgia sleeps with her then-husband Paul in a last-ditch effort to make their marriage work, before she makes the false pregnancy claim. Later, Paul leaves her and she makes the decision to skip town and dodge her trial. Joe shows up at her door hours before she makes a run for it, and the two end up sleeping together. 'In that moment, who shows up, but Joe, and he's not there to make a move,' Lampert told Deadline. 'He's not there in a romantic like, "Oh, man, she really needs a friend." So there's a little bit of an opening there for them to appreciate new things about each other. Because for him, it's always been this infatuation.' And if her reciprocation is any indicator, Georgia has feelings for him, too. So, who is the father of her unborn child? By the end of the season, it's clear that Paul and Georgia's relationship is officially over. There's little but hurt between them now, which has led Brianne Howey, who plays Georgia, to theorize that Joe would make for a better dad. 'Seeing the way things ended [between Georgia and Paul], seeing all of our true colors, and what we brought out of one another, I think the healthiest option for everyone was probably for that relationship to dissolve,' Howey told Tudum. 'And perhaps someone new is about to be a dad,' she teases. Added Raymond Ablack, who plays Joe, 'I would die of a broken heart [if Paul were the father].' Lampert told TVLine in a post-finale interview that, despite some early 'debate,' the Ginny & Georgia writers' room has indeed 'landed on whose baby it is.' Still, she insisted in a separate interview with Deadline that she can always change her mind. 'Here's what I'll say about that,' she told the outlet. 'I know whose baby she's carrying, but I went into the writer's room this season and I said, "Here's who the daddy is. Change my mind." So it's live wire in there. I'm telling you right now, I am open to being convinced otherwise.' Clearly, when it comes to love affairs, so is Georgia. After she turned down Joe's advances in the season 3 finale, she might have to reconsider her relationship with him when season 4 comes around. Until then, she'll just have to frequent the dairy aisle. This story will be updated. ELLE Collective is a new community of fashion, beauty and culture lovers. Grierson Trust Chair Lorraine Heggessey Steps Down After 11 Years
The Grierson Trust has begun the search for its next chair after Lorraine Heggessey announced her intention to step down after 11 years. Heggessey, the former controller of BBC1 and boss of Fremantle's Talkback Thames, has overseen the Grierson Trust since 2014. More from Deadline Asif Kapadia Apologizes For "Ill-Judged" Sharing Of "Antisemitic" Social Media Posts Grierson Trust Withdraws Asif Kapadia's Patronage After Backlash Over Oscar-Winning Director's Israel-Gaza Social Media Posts Grierson Trust Bans Individual From Awards For 10 Years Following Antisemitic Incident The charity trumpeted her work in expanding the Grierson DocLab, which has trained more than 200 people from underrepresented backgrounds in the art of factual storytelling. The Trust also pointed to training partnerships Heggessey has helped forge with Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, while underlining the work she has done to stage the Grierson Awards. 'In a world where views are increasingly polarised and expressed in bite-size quotes, documentaries have a crucial role to play whether they're telling truth to power or unravelling the complexities of international and domestic stories,' Heggessey said. 'It's a wrench to leave such a wonderful organisation but I do so with full confidence that the Trust is in great shape and will continue to thrive, innovate and make a lasting impact on the documentary community for years to come.' Sylvia Bednarz, managing director of the Grierson Trust, added: 'Her passion for documentary filmmaking and tireless support for emerging talent have been instrumental in shaping the Trust's vision and impact. It has been a privilege to work alongside her.' It has not all been smooth sailing. The Grierson Trust sparked unrest last year after hiring and then swiftly firing Asif Kapadia as a patron. The Oscar-winner acknowledged that some of his social media activity around the war in Gaza was 'ill-judged' and likely to be considered 'antisemitic.' But in the weeks following the incident, there was a feeling in the UK television's Muslim and South Asian community that Grierson acted rashly in defenestrating Kapadia. In a separate incident, Grierson banned an individual from its events after they approached three Jewish people at the 2023 awards to confront them about the Israel-Gaza conflict. The Grierson Trust has opened its search for a new chair, setting a July 11 deadline for applications.
