Here's The Biggest New Show Of 2025 No One Is Talking About
Mobland I've noticed a sharp disconnect between many media critics and what people are actually watching around the streaming internet. Sometimes they overlap, like with endless thinkpieces on Netflix's Adolescence or HBO's White Lotus. Other times, things seem to be flying completely under the radar. This appears to be the case with what is arguably the biggest new series of 2025, and I believe it's being ignored in part because of where it's airing, Paramount Plus, which is often not given the space it deserves by the media. See also big, somewhat ignored hits like 1923 and Landman. The new show we're talking about here is Mobland. This is the synopsis: 'The Harrigans, a London crime family, find themselves in a battle with the Stevensons that could end empires and their lives. Harry Da Souza is called upon by the Harrigans to be their "fixer" and to protect their family.' The cast is exceptional. It stars everyone's favorite James Bond (sorry Connery and Craig) Pierce Brosnan, recently-departed Venom (with a ton of other great films under his belt) Tom Hardy, House of the Dragon standout and acting legend Paddy Considine and finally, Oscar-winner Helen Mirren as the matriarch of the central crime family. The entire thing is directed by Guy Ritchie of Snatch, Lock Stock, Sherlock Holmes, The Man from UNCLE, The Gentlemen, The Covenant and many other shows and films. Just an incredible pedigree for the series. Mobland And people are watching. Mobland broke a global launch record for Paramount Global with 2.2 million viewers for the first episode. It's also on the service's all-time list now alongside 1923 and Landman. The series has gotten good reviews. A 79% critic score, verified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, and a somewhat lower, but still positive audience score of 68%. Keep in mind massive hits on Paramount like 1923 have a 51% audience score and Landman has a close to identical 79% critic and 62% audience score. You don't need dual 100%s to find success in this business, only a good concept and great cast, which both those other shows have as well. Paramount has proven great at grabbing high profile stars as of late, with Harrison Ford and Billy Bob Thornton leading those other two series, and now this amazing Mobland cast. Mobland has only just gotten started with two episodes, and the 10 episode run (which you see increasingly infrequently in the streaming era) is going to be on all the way through June, not doing a Netflix binge style drop. Expect a lot more chatter as more and more people discover it. Albeit perhaps not too many critics, it seems.
