Why people across Ebbw Vale are getting new ‘owl tattoos'
Harry Morgan, 23, has been a tattoo artist for the last three years and operates under the business name Lucky H Tattooist. Now, he's designed at least seven different owl and bird of prey style tattoos with all proceeds going to the Ebbw Vale Owl Sanctuary. Local tattoo artist Harry Morgan creator of 'Owl Ink' (Image: NQ) Speaking of what inspired his owl themed ink Harry said: 'I used to go there when I was a kid, because my house where I have grown up was about a ten-minute walk from there. 'So, I've always wanted to try and do something to give back and I had the idea for a while and just as I started to put it all together that's when the vandalism happened.' Last month, Gwent Police confirmed three separate incidents of vandalism at The Owl Sanctuary in the Festival Park in Ebbw Vale. One of the incidents resulted in the toilets at the sanctuary being completely destroyed. Since then, public donations have been flying in. On May 19 his first "owl ink" customer opted for a Barn Owl themed tattoo. Harry says he hopes to raise at least £1,000 with his "owl ink". Birds illustrated in the 'owl ink' tattoo range includes A Steppe Eagle, Harris Hawk, Peregrine Falcon Vermiculated Eagle Owl, The European Eagle Owl, White Faced Owl and a Barn Owl. Food that's both serious and serene: Babbo reviewed
After a week in which Israel triumphed at the Eurovision Song Contest with second place – western Europe is for them, eastern Europe slightly less so (plus ça change) – I review Babbo, the new neighbourhood restaurant in St John's Wood. Restaurants tend to drift in, settle and drift onwards here. The Victorians knew it as a land of mistresses and smut; now it is a world of private hospitals, bad parking and MCC members, who seem bewildered by it all, as if Lord's landed like a spaceship in an alien land. Only Oslo Court seems impregnable, because it manifests Jewish solidity – it is disguised as the home of your cousin in a mansion flat – and Jewish subversion. It is a specialist in seafood and cream cakes. Everything else comes and goes. In a high street dedicated to underwear, estate agents and aesthetic medicine, it is pleasing to find something as useful as an Italian restaurant. There is an Ivy, of course, but it is generic – it reminds me of Sleeping Beauty's castle without the magic or ambition – and a Gail's. Idiots hate Gail's because they think it is an augur of gentrification. They might as well count blades of grass as perform their stupid activism here. They are a century too late. Babbo is double-fronted, and it speaks to St John's Wood's myths: it means Daddy. A Daddy who double parks and buys underwear. It used to be Harry Morgan's deli (born 1948), a cheesecake and salt beef bar so beloved that one reviewer said Babbo was dancing on his grandparents' graves.

Harry Morgan, Kylie Morris will face off for election as Millcreek Township supervisor
Businessman Harry Morgan has defeated incumbent Dan Ouellet for the Republican nomination for Millcreek Township supervisor, according to unofficial election results. Physician Kylie Morris won the Democratic nomination, defeating Dean Carlson, a streets foreman for the township. Morgan took 2,371 votes to 1,307 for Ouellet, including early mail-in votes. Morris had 2,901 votes to 2.659 for Carlson. "I feel good. I feel positive," Morgan said of his win. "It felt great to be at the polls, with the amount of support I had." Morgan attributes his win to public disapproval of the township's purchase of West Eighth Street properties for redevelopment. The township bought the former Joe Root's Grill, Sandbar Draft House & Grille, Manor Motel, Grasshopper shop and Bel-Aire Hotel for $7.2 million in January 2023 with the goal of preparing the properties for new uses in keeping with the township's Embrace Millcreek comprehensive plan. More: Review coverage from the May 20 Erie County municipal primary The purchase price came from proceeds of the sale of the Millcreek Township Water Authority to the Erie Water Works in 2015. "Mostly I heard at the polls that people want change," Morgan said. "They don't want Millcreek to be in the real estate business and are worried about township infrastructure. Money that was earmarked for infrastructure went to the real estate purchase." With uncertainty about whether voters will choose a new form of government this fall, as recommended by the Millcreek Township Government Study Commission, Morgan said that he plans to work for the township for at least a year if he is elected. "There's a lot of work to do before the election. But I would have at least one full year being supervisor if elected and I would work tirelessly for Millcreek," Morgan said. Morris could not be reached for comment after the election results were announced late on May 20. Millcreek supervisor race: How the winner will serve and for how long are unknown Incumbent Democratic Supervisor Jack Lee was unopposed for his party's nomination for re-election. He will face Republican Michael Pace this fall. Pace won the Republican nomination by 338 votes, or 70.1% of the vote, to 133 votes, or 27.6%, for Mark Sleppy. James Glover won the Republican nomination for township supervisor, besting Matthew Vollentine. Glover took 138 votes to 84 for Vollentine.
