Oxford Street sweet shop caught selling drug-infused confectionery
A sweet shop on Britain's busiest shopping strip has been caught selling drug-infused treats. The Londenro store, located on Oxford Street, was found to be selling desserts laced with illicit substances, including cookies containing psychedelic mushrooms. The discovery was made after Westminster Council launched a probe following a report that a shopper had been hit with an £899 bill for trying to buy two packs of sweets. The investigation revealed that the shop was stocking products like 'Magic Dragon' cookies — which, far from being innocent snacks, were found to include magic mushrooms. Boxes marked 'Game Over' were also seized. On April 25, officers carried out a raid at the shop. As they entered, two workers bolted to the basement and made their escape through a concealed exit hidden behind a wall panel. But when the panel was moved, authorities found a secret room holding counterfeit items worth an estimated £80,000. The shop's director, Ahmad Yar Jan, later told the court he had no issue with the confiscated products being destroyed. Meanwhile, a neighbouring store styled as a 'Harry Potter'-themed shop was also caught up in the operation. Authorities say it had been selling cannabis-derived items including Hashish and White Widow CBD, without the proper licensing. The store is operated by 5IVESTAR Limited, and an individual connected to it appeared in court with Yar Jan. Many of the seized products didn't include English-language labelling, raising serious safety concerns over unknown ingredients and potential allergens. Council leader Adam Hug didn't mince his words, saying: "It is rather ironic that a shop calling itself a Harry Potter store appears to have been selling products that claim they would get the user higher than a Quidditch player. "The food products here were part of a raid at two addresses on Oxford Street which have taken thousands of items worth £80,000 off the streets." He added: "One of these 'magic cookies' products was labelled game over – however the only game over will be for unscrupulous traders who sell illegal goods to the public. We have known for a long time that US candy stores rip off customers, but charging £900 for two packets of sweets is a new low, even for the unscrupulous people who run these rackets. "Our job is to protect people who visit the West End from being exploited and continuing raids and court appearances will ensure life is sour for the rogue US sweet shop trade."

Rave party at farmhouse near Bengaluru busted; 31 detained, drugs seized
In a pre-dawn operation Sunday, the police raided a farmhouse on the outskirts of Bengaluru and busted an alleged rave party. The police arrested 31 people, including seven women, and seized three grams of cocaine, five grams of hydro-ganja, 60 grams of Hashish, and a small quantity of ganja. According to the police, the rave party was underway in a farmhouse in Kannamangala village in Devanahalli taluk of Bengaluru rural district. The raid was conducted around 5 am by the Devanahalli police after locals tipped them off about suspicious activities at the private farmhouse. According to police, the party began late Saturday night, and several attendees were found in possession of or using drugs. Many of the attendees were reportedly working professionals from Bengaluru's IT sector. The police confirmed that a drug peddler was among those present. All 31 were subjected to medical tests, and forensic reports are awaited to verify drug consumption. 'Four of the accused found with narcotics were produced in court and remanded to 14 days of judicial custody,' said V J Sajith, East Division DCP. 'The remaining 27 were released on station bail after initial questioning. Cases have been filed against all of them under the NDPS Act, including the farmhouse owner,' DCP Sajith added. Initial investigations suggest the event was organised as a birthday party but soon turned into a drug-fuelled event. Police sources said more arrests are likely as they probe the drug supply network. A police officer said the attendees were there to celebrate the 26th birthday of one Mazar Sharif, a resident of Banaswadi in Bengaluru and an employee at a private firm. The farmhouse owner, Syed Asad, had rented it to Sharif after he contacted him online. The attendees were aged between 24 and 30 years, and most of them were from Bengaluru city. ACP Naveen from the Devanahalli subdivision supervised the operation. The police are continuing to investigate the origins and distribution channels of the seized narcotics.

Cassation Court upholds 10-year sentence for man convicted of storing illicit drugs
AMMAN — The Court of Cassation has upheld a State Security Court (SSC) ruling sentencing a man to 10 years in prison after convicting him of storing a large quantity of illegal narcotics in Mafraq governorate in March 2023. The SSC declared the defendant guilty of possessing large quantities of Hashish and Captagon pills at his home in Mafraq on March 29. The SSC handed defendant Abdul Aziz A., a 15-year prison term for the charges and ordered him to pay JD10,000 in fines. However, the court decided to reduce the sentence to 10 years in prison while maintaining the JD10,000 'to give the defendant a second chance in life'. Court documents said Abdul Aziz A. and two other defendants, who did not appeal their 15-year verdicts, decided to earn quick cash by selling illegal narcotics in the local market. 'The two defendants stored 60 kilogrammes of Hashish and 140,000 Captagon pills at Abdul Aziz A.'s house,' court papers said. The Anti-Narcotics department (AND) received a tip about the stored illicit drugs at the defendant's house and decided to raid the premises, according to court papers. 'The three defendants were arrested and AND agents seized a large quantity of illicit drugs,' court papers added. The defendant contested the SSC's ruling through his lawyer, who argued that 'legal errors were committed during the investigation process'. Meanwhile, the SSC prosecution office asked the higher court to uphold the sentence and the fine imposed on the defendant. The higher court maintained that the SSC had followed the proper procedures in issuing the sentences against the defendant. 'It was clear to the court that the defendant confessed willingly to storing the illegal drugs with the intent of selling them in the local market,' the higher court said. The Cassation Court bench comprised judges Yassin Abdullat, Nayef Samarat, Hammad Ghzawi, Mohammad Khashashneh and Qassem Dughmi.

Cassation Court upholder 6-year sentence for drug dealer
AMMAN — The Court of Cassation has upheld a May 2023 State Security Court (SSC) ruling sentencing a drug dealer to six years in prison after convicting him of selling illegal narcotics to an undercover agent in Muwaqar area in December 2022. The court declared the defendant guilty of possessing a large quantity of illegal narcotics on December 3. The SSC handed the defendant a punishment of six years in prison and ordered him to pay JD6,000 in fines. Court documents said that the Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) learnt the defendant was in possession of a large quantity of illegal narcotics and sent one of its agents to pose as a buyer. 'The AND agent offered the defendant JD4,700 in return for two kilogrammes of Hashish and 4,000 Captagon pills,' court documents said. When the two met, court papers stated, law-enforcement officers immediately apprehended the defendant. The defendant contested the SSC's ruling through his lawyer, who argued that the court 'did not provide solid evidence to implicate his client of illicit drug trafficking'. Meanwhile, the SSC prosecution office asked the higher court to uphold the sentence and the fine imposed on the defendant. The higher court maintained that the SSC had followed the proper procedures in issuing the sentences against the defendant. 'It was clear to the court that the defendant confessed willingly to possessing the illegal drugs to sell them in the local market,' the higher court said. Therefore, the higher court maintained that the defendant deserves the punishment he received. The Cassation Court bench comprised judges Yassin Abdullat, Hammad Ghzawi, Qassem Dughmi, Mohammad Khashashneh and Nayef Samarat.
