Oil Ministry: International Energy Forum will be Held in Baghdad in Early September

Baghdad-INA The Ministry of Oil announced on Monday that an international energy forum will be held in Baghdad in early September, with the participation of energy and oil ministers from 12 countries. The ministry said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The capital, Baghdad, is preparing to host the Baghdad International Energy Forum, one of the most prominent international events in the energy sector, in early September." The ministry explained that "this event is being organized under the patronage of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Oil Hayan Abdul-Ghani Al-Sawad, in partnership with the Ghadan Foundation for Risk Management and the Iraqi Institute for Dialogue, and sponsored by the State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO)." It added that "official invitations to attend the forum have been sent to energy and oil ministers from 12 countries, in addition to senior executives from major international oil companies, and a group of experts and specialists in various energy fields." It explained that "the forum's sessions will address vital topics related to the concepts of environmental sustainability, technological innovation, and developments in global energy markets, as well as the challenges and opportunities facing the region in this context." The Ministry affirmed that "the forum embodies Iraq's future directions in developing the oil, gas, and renewable energy sectors, and reflects its commitment to its active role in consolidating regional and international dialogue on the future of global energy."

Baghdad-INA Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Engineer Hayan Abdul-Ghani Al-Sawad, confirmed on Thursday that clean energy projects in Iraq aim to produce 12,000 megawatts. A statement from the ministry, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil Hayan Abdul-Ghani Al-Sawad, during his speech at the panel discussion at the Future of Energy Security and the Transition to Sustainable Resources Summit held in London, stressed that fossil fuels will remain an important source of energy and industry in the coming years." The minister pointed to "the Iraqi government's efforts and plans to expand the use of renewable energy, particularly in solar power generation projects, which aim to produce 12,000 megawatts. This is in addition to the significant investment in associated gas from several projects and its beneficial uses, including the Southern Iraq Integrated Project in cooperation with Total. The project also includes, for the first time, the use of seawater for injection into oil fields." The ministry's statement added that "the Future Energy Security Summit is being held with the participation of energy ministers and senior officials from more than 60 countries, in addition to major international energy companies, in cooperation between the British government and the International Energy Agency."

A statement by the ministry received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) stated that "Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil Hayan Abdul-Ghani Al-Sawad chaired a meeting to discuss the work of the joint Iraqi-Turkish committee in the presence of committee members from Iraqi ministries." The minister stressed, according to the statement, "the importance of the files related to the work of the committee, especially the water and oil files." It pointed out "the necessity of activating the water file in a way that serves the interests of Iraq by achieving a fair share of water releases," stressing "the imminent activation of the oil export file through the oil pipeline to the Turkish port of Ceyhan and the possibility of increasing exports through this pipeline of Basra oil." During the meeting, the topics included in the agenda related to the subcommittees in the fields of water, energy and oil, education, border crossings and communications, trade exchange, and the sports and youth file were discussed. The meeting concluded with the importance of completing the technical requirements of the committees, and activating the joint committees with the Turkish side in a way that serves the interests of the country.

A strategic shift in government services The conference marked a major milestone in Iraq's administrative reforms, with the Council of Ministers approving the Strategic Management Guide for Services 2024. This guide, now circulated across all ministries and governorates, aims to modernize government services, streamline bureaucratic processes, and enhance efficiency. During the opening session, Aqil Al-Khazaali, Advisor to the Prime Minister for Administrative Development Affairs and Head of the Procedures Simplification Committee, emphasized that public service is the foundation of the state's governance philosophy. He stressed the need for government employees to adopt a citizen-first approach in their work. Ministry of Finance achieves 94% completion in service simplification One of the highlights of the conference was the Ministry of Finance's presentation on its progress in streamlining services. The Government Procedures Simplification Team revealed that out of 38 identified government services, 36 have been fully optimized, achieving an impressive 94% completion rate. Launch of the 'Service Platform' and digital transformation efforts A key moment in the conference was the official launch of the 'Service Platform', a new digital initiative spearheaded by Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Eng. Hayan Abdul-Ghani Al-Sawad. This platform is designed to facilitate easier access to government services, reduce paperwork, and accelerate Iraq's transition to e-governance. Additionally, the conference featured specialized training sessions on 'Zero Paper' initiatives, highlighting the use of barcode technology and digital documentation to eliminate reliance on physical paperwork. A vision for 2025: Full digital transformation The Supreme Committee for Simplifying Government Procedures and Services also outlined its vision for 2025, focusing on achieving a comprehensive digital transformation across Iraq's public sector.
