TAWAU: Students of Politeknik Tawau Sabah (PTS) have been urged to come forward if they become victims of bullying or face emotional distress caused by other students. PTS Deputy Director Helen Lau @ Abd Kadir said the institution places strong emphasis on students' emotional well-being in addition to physical health. Advertisement 'PTS remains committed to ensuring the well-being of both students and staff, in terms of both emotional and physical health,' she said. She was speaking at the 2025 Health Screening Day organised by the PTS Student Affairs Unit in collaboration with the Tawau Dental Clinic, Apas-Balung Health Clinic and the Tawau Hospital Blood Donation Unit, on Saturday. The programme, which benefited more than 400 members of PTS, was officiated by Tawau Area Deputy Health Officer Dr Srinivasan Subramaniam. Helen expressed hope the initiative would continue in future, further strengthening cooperation between PTS and the agencies involved. She said the event also formed part of the Health Promotions In Learning Institutions (HePiLI) at PTS and included health checks for 135 new students enrolled in the July 2025/2026 Session I intake. PTS has recorded 100 per cent intake achievement for five consecutive semesters in its two programmes, including Diploma in Tourism Management and Diploma in Tourism Recreation, reinforcing its presence in Sabah's East Coast and maintaining strong demand from both local and out-of-state students. Meanwhile, Dr Srinivasan reminded PTS students to pay attention to both mental and physical health to remain active in carrying out daily tasks. He welcomed the programme as part of the Malaysia Sihat Sejahtera Month and Health Promotions in Learning Institutions (BMSS-HePiLI), an initiative under the Malaysia Sihat National Agenda (ANMS). He also encouraged PTS students to take advantage of the free general health screenings and dental check-ups offered. The one-day programme featured dental treatment, general health checks and a blood donation drive. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? MOH To Roll Out HePiLI Health Programme In Schools Starting This June

GENERAL KOTA BHARU, May 30 (Bernama) -- The Health Ministry (MOH) will implement the Health Promotion in Learning Institutions (HePiLI) programme package in stages across all schools starting this June. Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the HePiLI programme package would no longer be limited to schools with 'Kelab Doktor Muda' (Young Doctor Clubs) only. "Personally, I feel this programme proves that a healthy lifestyle can be nurtured from a young age with a friendly, heartfelt, and lasting impact... as the saying goes, 'to bend the bamboo, bend it while it's still a shoot'," he said. He was speaking at the closing ceremony of the HePiLI Healthy and Prosperous Tour Programme with Didi and Friends for the East Coast Zone and the launch of the HePiLI programme package here today. Elaborating further, Dr Dzulkefly said the HePiLI Tour Programme with Didi and Friends was an edutainment approach that provided health education through entertainment to children aged five to 12. "The popularity of Didi and Friends is leveraged to convey health messages in a friendly, easy-to-understand, and memorable way. "Among the main achievements of this programme are the production of seven animated health videos that have collectively garnered over 28 million views on YouTube, with two of the most popular videos each exceeding 10 million views," he said. He said field activities had also received an encouraging response with participation from over 135,000 children. "This proves that cartoons and cheerful songs are not merely entertainment, but also effective educational tools that help build awareness, spark interest and encourage action, in line with the principle that health education is not just about knowing, but doing.
