Surveen Chawla shares her approach to talking about menstruation with her young daughter. She emphasizes using correct terminology from the start. She believes in normalizing these conversations early. Her daughter understands periods in an age-appropriate way. Surveen also discusses her role in Criminal Justice Season 4. Surveen Chawla opens up about how she talks openly and honestly with her young daughter about periods, breaking taboos by using simple, correct terms from the very beginning. Alongside her parenting insights, catch up on her latest role in the gripping Criminal Justice Season 4. Age-Appropriate Conversations on Periods In a recent interview with Hauterrfly, Surveen revealed that her daughter understands sanitary pads and periods in an age-appropriate way. She recalled how her daughter once walked into the bathroom, opened a drawer, and found a packet of sanitary pads. When her daughter asked about the sanitary pads, the actress gave a simple explanation. She told her that women release 'toxic blood' from their bodies once a month, and the sanitary pad works like an adult diaper to keep them clean. Normalizing Period Talks Early Chawla further said that when she feels uncomfortable during her period, she tells her daughter and asks for some space. She also started teaching her about periods when she was just three years old, believing that the first way a child learns about it leaves a lasting impact, so it's important to make these talks normal early on. She added that her daughter knows the word "vagina" because that's the term she has always used with her. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Why Walgreens Hides This Cheap 87¢ Generic Cialis Health Alliance by Friday Plans Learn More Undo On the work front, Surveen Chawla was recently seen in Criminal Justice Season 4, starring Pankaj Tripathi as the sharp, unconventional lawyer Madhav Mishra. Douglas Co. no longer accepting Health Alliance insurance
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — The Douglas County Health Department announced on Thursday that clients with Health Alliance insurance will now be required to pay costs out of pocket. Carle Health previously announced that its healthcare plans through Health Alliance will end by the end of the year — including Medicare Advantage. The Douglas County Health Department cited Health Alliance's planned closure as the reason they will no longer accept Health Alliance insurance, 'effective immediately.' Insurance expert breaks down implications of Health Alliance's discontinued services The health department said clients with Health Alliance can fill out an income sheet to find out if you qualify for the sliding income scale — but also noted that the sliding income scale does not cover labs, immunizations, the nail clinic or certain services with the nurse practitioner. WCIA reached out to the health department for more information but did not immediately hear back. WCIA previously reported that when officials first announced that Health Alliance planned to close, officials said that health plans will maintain operations necessary to support claims processing and meeting ongoing business needs, regulatory mandates and contractual obligations throughout the remainder of 2025. Health Alliance Medicare Advantage plans set to end, impact over 33K people
CENTRAL ILLINOIS (WCIA) — Three months ago, Carle Health announced that its healthcare plans through Health Alliance will end by the end of the year. Now, the health system says Health Alliance Medicare Advantage plans will end by Dec. 31, 2025 as well. Carle Health said coverage for current Medicare Advantage members will remain unchanged through the end of the year. Insurance expert breaks down implications of Health Alliance's discontinued services 'This decision reflects the challenges facing provider-owned health plans in the current insurance and economic environment,' Carle Health said in a news release. Medicare Advantage replaces Original Medicare. It's sold and managed by private insurance companies. People who qualify for Medicare include people 65 or older, or those with a disability, End-Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a transplant), or ALS (also called Lou Gehrig's disease), according to the Department of Health and Human Services. Carle Health previously said Medicare Advantage would continue. But, after they 'concluded their comprehensive strategic and financial analysis,' that decision changed. The decision impacts 33,332 Medicare Advantage members, according to Carle Health. 'Our decision to exit the insurance market comes at a time when market dynamics and plan designs have made it increasingly difficult for provider-owned health plans to remain sustainable,' James C. Leonard, MD, Carle Health president and chief executive officer, said. 'We're proud of the service our health plans have delivered for decades, and especially proud to have connected people to the care they've trusted through every stage of life. That legacy continues as Carle Health focuses our efforts on delivering exceptional care and positioning Carle Health for long-term strength and impact.' Carle layoffs set to begin in July on 'rolling basis' in Champaign WCIA has reached out to Carle Health to find out what services or help Carle Health plans to provide Medicare Advantage users when it's time for them to choose a new coverage option. The health system said they maintain relationships with other Medicare Advantage plans. And, when it's time to explore new coverage options, Carle said they will provide resources to help. 'For Carle Health patients wishing to stay connected to their care teams, we will be providing helpful enrollment information during the Annual Election Period at We are focused on a thoughtful and supportive transition for our members,' Carle Health said. Two yellow placards posted in Champaign Co. after health inspections
CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Two food establishments in Champaign County received yellow placards following health inspections this week. LAST WEEK: One red, yellow placard in Champaign County after health inspections On May 16, Outback Steakhouse, located at 2402 N Prospect Ave. in Champaign, received a yellow placard. During the restaurants last health inspection on April 17, a health inspector issued a Violation Correction Form for multiple issues. First, several food items including raw chicken, raw ribs, cooked ribs, milk and cocktail sauce were being held above the required 41°F. Outback Steakhouse was told they would need to submit proof that they could keep their foods at cold enough temperatures. Health Alliance Medicare Advantage plans set to end, impact over 33K people Second, the hot water in the handwashing sink was turned off. The person in charge told the inspector that the water doesn't stop, even after turning off the water tap. The restaurant was required to submit proof that the faucet had been replaced. There were also two issues found with the backflow devices. First, the drain line of a steamer in the prep room sat directly on the floor of the drain mesh, and provided no air gap protection, according to the report. Outback Steakhouse was required to submit proof of at least a 1-inch gap at the steamer drain line. The health inspector also found that the mop sink faucet was missing something: about 25 feet of hose was attached to the mop sink faucet with a sprayer on the other end used for dish washing. During the inspection, the person in charge removed the hose from the mop sink faucet, and the restaurant will need to submit proof of a water-wasting T installation at the mop sink faucet. Potential legal action: Rantoul officials upset with landlords following large fire at former Air Force base Outback Steakhouse was required to submit proof of their corrections by May 1. During the May 16 inspection, the inspector found that the cooling and cold holding procedures that were submitted were 'incorrect and insufficient.' The restaurant also did not create a large enough air-gap steamer drain line, and had not installed a water-wasting T. A yellow placard was posted. If the proper corrections are not done by May 29, the health permit will be suspended, and a red placard will be posted. Lincolnshire Fields Country Club, located at 2000 Byrneburk Drive in Champaign, was given a yellow placard on May 19. During an inspection on April 18, the health inspector found that the person in charge was not a certified food protection manager (CFPM). Former Champaign Co. deputy arraigned on theft charge The country club was required to submit proof that at least two employees were enrolled in the class, as well as proof of the CFPM's coverage during the kitchen's working hours by May 2. The country club was given a 10-day extension, but failed to submit the required paperwork on May 16, according to an inspection report. A yellow placard was posted at 2 p.m. on May 19, and the Lincolnshire Fields Country Club was required to submit the paperwork by June 2 or risk receiving a red placard. Soon after the yellow placard was posted, the person in charge submitted the correct paperwork. The yellow placard was taken down about an hour and a half after it was put up on May 19, according to an inspection report posted later that day. Urbana-based Carle Health to lay off 612 workers as it winds down its insurance companies
Urbana-based Carle Health is laying off 612 workers as it winds down two of its subsidiary health insurance companies. Carle Health – a system that includes eight hospitals in central Illinois – announced earlier this year that its insurance company subsidiaries Health Alliance and FirstCarolinaCare would cease operating all lines of business, except Medicare Advantage plans. Health Alliance offers insurance plans in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and Ohio. The company's health plans will maintain operations through the rest of 2025. Carle plans to 'reduce staff on a rolling basis to maintain full support of member services throughout the remainder of 2025,' a spokesperson said Monday. The first of the layoffs is scheduled to begin July 8, according to a required notice filed last week with the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. Earlier this year, Carle explained its plan to wind down its health insurance subsidiaries in a news release, saying the health insurance industry has changed dramatically in recent years, especially for insurance companies owned by health care providers. 'Because of this, health plans, like Health Alliance and FirstCarolinaCare have struggled to achieve operational and financial efficiency,' Carle said in the release. Specifically, Carle's health insurance subsidiaries have struggled with medical inflation, rising prescription drug costs, more patients with chronic conditions and changing technologies, among other challenges, according to the release. Though Health Alliance and FirstCarolinaCare worked to grow larger in recent years in hopes of overcoming those challenges, 'they have not been able to reach a financially viable level to compete effectively in today's environment,' according to the release. 'We recognize that in today's health insurance environment, our health plans no longer successfully compete and Carle Health must effectively utilize our resources to meet the changing needs of customers,' Dr. James Leonard Carle Health president and CEO said in the release. In Illinois, Health Alliance offers health plans for individuals and employers as well as Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare Supplement plans. This year, Health Alliance offers plans on the state's Affordable Care Act exchange throughout most of Illinois, outside of the Chicago area. Its exit could mean that for some residents of central and southern Illinois, their only option for an exchange plan for next year might be through Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois, depending on which insurers offer plans and where for next year.
