5 dead in Himachal flash floods
Three bodies were recovered in Kangra on Thursday, taking the toll from flash floods triggered by cloudbursts to five, said officials. Search operations are on to find the missing persons — three each from Kullu and Kangra. Meanwhile, an unknown person died after drowning in a rivulet in Kullu on Thursday. The flash floods occurred in Kangra and Kullu districts on Wednesday. 'Out of five, four were identified. As per the information provided to us by the contractor at the Hydroelectric power project, three people are still missing. Separately, a man, who had climbed up and entered a forest area to save himself yesterday from the increased water at the hydro power project site, was traced today,' said Deputy Commissioner (Kangra) Hemraj Bairwa. The three deceased have been identified as Chain Singh, a resident of Jammu & Kashmir, Aditya Thakur from Chamba, and Pardeep Verma and Chandan from Uttar Pradesh, Kangra SP Shalini Agnihotri said. Deputy Commissioner (Kullu)Torul S Raveesh, said a search was on for three persons who had gone missing on Wednesday in Sainj valley. 'We have called the teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to assist,' he said. 'A man died today (Thursday) due to drowning in a rivulet which was overflowing due to incessant rain. The victim appeared to be a tourist who might have gone close to the river. Many saw him drowning. His identity is yet to be established,' Raveesh said. Meanwhile, scores of tourists were stranded in Manikaran Valley, Banjar, Kullu and Manali due to the incessant rain and damage to roads. Officials said efforts are on to rescue them. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said more than 15 houses collapsed and were washed away in the cloudbursts. 'Around nine flash floods along with three cloudbursts were reported in Kullu and Kangra in the last 24 hours. Five bodies were recovered in Kangra. Five people are still missing. I believe that roads especially connecting the villages were damaged to a large extent. We have issued necessary guidelines and warnings throughout the state,' Sukhu added. Police in Lahaul and Spiti received information that a group of 31 trekkers, who had set out from Hamta and were scheduled to reach Chhatru, had not arrived at their destination within the expected time on Wednesday, were later located. 'Considering the seriousness of the situation, a rescue team was immediately dispatched from Koksar. All 31 were safely located,' he said.

DC urges Kangra residents to take precautions against heatwave
Dharamshala, June 11 (UNI) As the heat wave has affected the hill district too, so Deputy Commissioner Kàngra Hemraj Bairwa has appealed to residents of Kangra district to remain alert as some areas are experiencing intense heatwave conditions. He urged citizens to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from heatstroke. People affected by heatstroke should be moved to a shaded area immediately. Their tight clothing should be loosened or removed, and the body should be wiped with a cool, wet cloth or given a cold-water bath. Homes should be kept cool using curtains, blinds, or shutters, and windows should be kept open at night for ventilation. Anyone feeling dizzy or unwell should consult a doctor without delay. Hydration is vital—people should drink ORS, lemon water, or a sugar-salt solution to replenish body fluids. The DC advised avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat hours and refraining from strenuous work in high temperatures. Alcohol, tea, coffee, overly sweet drinks, carbonated beverages, and stale food should be avoided. Children should not be allowed to play in the sun, and food preparation should be minimised during peak heat. Importantly, children and pets must never be left unattended in parked vehicles. Raja Khas becomes Himachal's first solar model village
Raja Khas , a village located in the Indora sub-division of Kangra district , Himachal Pradesh , has earned the distinction of becoming Himachal's first Solar Model Village , Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa informed on Tuesday. Chairing a meeting of the District-Level Coordination Committee (DLCC) under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, Bairwa said that Raja Khas has emerged as the top-performing village among 43 short-listed villages in Kangra district. These villages had been participating in a six-month-long competition aimed at selecting an ideal solar energy village based on solar installation performance, a statement issued here said. "The government will provide a grant of ₹1 crore for solar development in Raja Khas, setting a model for green energy adoption in rural areas," he added. The DC said that a Model Solar Village Implementation Agency has been nominated to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) and spearhead the transformation of the village into a fully solar-powered settlement. He emphasized that the PM Surya Ghar Scheme will be implemented efficiently across the district to promote clean energy and reduce dependency on conventional power sources. Project Officer of Himachal Pradesh Energy Development Agency (Himurja) and DLCC Member Secretary Ramesh Thakur said that the implementation of the scheme is being handled by the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Ltd, while Himurja has been designated as the nodal agency for monitoring its progress. He further elaborated that key components of the scheme include Central Financial Assistance (CFA) for domestic consumers, solar energy saturation in government buildings, incentives for local bodies, and the development of Adarsh Urja Grams (Model Energy Villages).
