Solar Model Village
, Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa informed on Tuesday. Chairing a meeting of the District-Level Coordination Committee (DLCC) under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, Bairwa said that Raja Khas has emerged as the top-performing village among 43 short-listed villages in Kangra district.
These villages had been participating in a six-month-long competition aimed at selecting an ideal
solar energy
village based on solar installation performance, a statement issued here said.
"The government will provide a grant of ₹1 crore for solar development in Raja Khas, setting a model for green energy adoption in rural areas," he added.
The DC said that a Model Solar Village Implementation Agency has been nominated to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) and spearhead the transformation of the village into a fully solar-powered settlement.
He emphasized that the PM Surya Ghar Scheme will be implemented efficiently across the district to promote clean energy and reduce dependency on conventional power sources.
Project Officer of Himachal Pradesh Energy Development Agency (Himurja) and DLCC Member Secretary Ramesh Thakur said that the implementation of the scheme is being handled by the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Ltd, while Himurja has been designated as the nodal agency for monitoring its progress.
He further elaborated that key components of the scheme include Central Financial Assistance (CFA) for domestic consumers, solar energy saturation in government buildings, incentives for local bodies, and the development of Adarsh Urja Grams (Model Energy Villages).

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday approved Rs 5,801 crore for a new 11-km corridor of Lucknow Metro, which has been pending for over six years. The East-West Corridor with 12 stations – 7 underground and 5 elevated – will connect Charbagh to Vasant Kunj and cover the most densely populated Old City area of the state Capital. This metro network will not only ease traffic congestion on the narrow roads of the Old City of Lucknow, but will also provide smooth connectivity to places like Chowk and Aminabad and historical tourist destinations such as Bada and Chhota Imambaras, Rumi Darwaza, Clock Tower, and Moosa Bagh. Thanking the Prime Minister for approving the project, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the decision will not only streamline the Capital's traffic system, but also open new avenues for employment, tourism, and investment. 'The project will elevate Lucknow to new heights by expanding its economic, social, and business infrastructure,' he added. The project will be implemented by the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC), which is a joint venture of the Union government and the Uttar Pradesh government. The estimated time for completion of the new corridor is five years. Once operational, the new corridor, also called Phase-1B, will extend Lucknow's active Metro network to 34 km, linking key commercial hubs such as Aminabad, Yahiyaganj, Pandeyganj, and Chowk. It will also improve access to major healthcare institutions like King George Medical University and old city areas known for their rich heritage and culinary culture. By easing congestion on the busiest routes of old Lucknow, the Metro will reduce travel time with improved connectivity to the Amausi airport, Charbagh railway station, and bus terminals. The 11.165-km corridor will comprise 4.286 km of elevated and 6.879 km of underground sections. It will integrate with the existing North-South Corridor (Phase 1-A) at Charbagh, which will function as an interchange station, facilitating seamless transfers for commuters between the two corridors. The stations on the new corridor are Charbagh (underground), Gautam Budh Road (underground), Aminabad (underground), Pandeyganj (underground), City Railway Station (underground), Medical Chauraha (underground), Chowk (underground), Thakurganj (elevated), Balaganj (elevated), Sarfarazganj (elevated), Moosabagh (elevated), and Vasant Kunj (elevated). 'This new corridor will strengthen access to Old Lucknow's rich cultural heritage, cuisine, tourism destinations, and employment hubs for those living in newer parts of the city,' said Sushil Kumar, the Managing Director of UPMRC Limited. A senior UPMRC official said the process of floating tenders will begin very soon. 'The UPMRC has already undertaken significant groundwork and compiled essential research data for the corridor,' the official said. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the East-West Corridor was approved by the Uttar Pradesh government in March 2024, while the clearance from the Network Planning was granted on July 9, 2024. It was recommended by the Public Investment Board in May 2025. As of now, the Phase 1-A or North-South Corridor of the Lucknow Metro is operational, connecting the CCS Airport to Munshi Pulia, a distance of 22.87km. The corridor started in 2019 and has a total of 21 stations.

Lucknow: The Union Cabinet on Tuesday green-signalled the East-West Corridor of the Lucknow Metro rail. The corridor will stretch from Charbagh to Vasant Kunj, and give commuters easy access to densely populated and culturally rich areas of the Old City. The corridor has a length of 11.165 km and will cost Rs 5,801 crore, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Tuesday. The Union Cabinet meeting held in Delhi was presided over by PM Narendra Modi . The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRC) will now initiate the tendering process within the three weeks. The corridor is expected to be completed in five years once it is started. In a statement, the central govt said that Phase-1B of the Lucknow Metro Rail Project represents a significant advancement in the city's infrastructure development. This phase will seamlessly integrate the key zones of Old Lucknow, including commercial hubs such as Aminabad, Yahiyaganj, Pandeyganj and Chowk. It will also integrate the other key zones such as the KGMU and major tourist attractions such as Bada Imambara, Chota Imambara, Bhool Bhulaiya, Clock Tower, and Rumi Darwaza. "By bridging these vital areas with the Metro network, Phase-1B will not only enhance connectivity but also stimulate economic activity, tourism, and ease urban mobility for both residents and visitors," the govt said. By addressing key urban challenges and providing a foundation for future expansion, Phase-1B will play a crucial role in shaping the city's development trajectory and sustainability, the govt's statement said. The corridor is expected to serve an additional 200,000 passengers daily. The underground stations on the East-West Corridor are Charbagh, Gautam Buddha Marg, Aminabad, Pandeyganj, City Railway Station, Medical Crossing and Chowk. The elevated stations will be Thakurganj, Balaganj, Sarfarazganj, Moosabagh, and Vasant Kunj. Once operational, the East-West Corridor will extend the total Metro network in Lucknow to 35km, building upon the existing 23-km North-South line that runs from Amausi Airport to Munshipulia. "With groundwork underway and essential research data compiled, the East-West Corridor will become a transformative infrastructure project for Lucknow, promising improved connectivity, reduced traffic congestion, and enhanced quality of life for its residents especially to those living in the Old City area," said UPMRC MD Sushil Kumar. Nagpur metro phase 2 to shift night time maintenance to new terminal stations
Nagpur: Nagpur Metro 's Phase 2 will not just expand the network but also change the way it is maintained every night. The stabilising lines and pit lines, currently located at Phase 1 terminal stations, will be shifted to the new endpoints under Phase 2, confirmed a senior MahaMetro official. This shift, officials said, will streamline operations, cut idle travel time, and help trains begin their daily service directly from the city's outermost points. Under the plan, the last stations at Kanhan, Transport Nagar, Butibori MIDC-ESR, and Hingna will be equipped with these facilities. This means that the existing Phase 1 terminals, which are at Khapri, Automotive Square, Prajapati Nagar, and Lokmanya Nagar, will no longer function as overnight hubs for regular upkeep once the second phase is commissioned. The stabilising line is used to park trains after daily service so they can cool down, undergo routine checks, and be readied for the next day, while the pit line has inspection pits that allow technicians to check undercarriages, clean, and carry out minor repairs. Officials clarified that the two existing depots — in Mihan and Hingna — will continue to handle the full operational load of both phases. For Phase 2, MahaMetro will operate three-car trains in a DMC–TC–DMC configuration, each 21.94 metres long and 2.9 metres wide.
