Is the Angel Reese '$1,400 a week' quote real? Here's the answer.
Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese has gone viral for a quote referencing making "$1,400 a week." There's just one problem. She never said it. Let us explain. (Even though we're currently rolling our eyes as we do it.) Reese isn't a stranger to having her name in news cycles. Since entering the WNBA, she's been in the headlines for everything from her signature shoe to using her voice to call out the WNBA's CBA negotiations. Unfortunately, that also means people know her name clicks, and they'll use it to push agendas, regardless of the consequences. For the past several days, a meme with a quote attributed to Reees has been floating around, which says, "Y'all make $1,400 a week. … I make $1,400 in 7 days." Aside from this fake quote being deeply unserious and problematic in several ways, there is no record of the Chicago forward ever having said it. None. That's right. If you thought this was real, you've been hoodwinked. Bamboozled. So, how did this meme take off? Well, per Her Hoops Stats, Reese's current WNBA salary is $74,909. What's $74,909 divided by 52? Roughly $1,440 a week or about $1,400 for simplification purposes. See where this is going? That's how easy it was to spread a "believable" quote. (Never mind the fact that Reese has been rolling in endorsement deals and other partnerships since college, which eclipsed the million-dollar mark in 2023.) At any rate, glad we could clear this up. Be better, folks.

Katie Lou Samuelson signs with Seattle Storm, agent says
Katie Lou Samuelson is headed back to the Seattle Storm, her agent, Lindsay Kagawa Colas, told The Associated Press. Samuelson, who played with the Storm in 2021, agreed to a one-year deal with Seattle. She mutually parted ways with the Indiana Fever. Samuelson missed the 2023 season due to maternity leave after giving birth to daughter Aliya and returned last year, appearing in 37 games for the Fever while averaging 4.3 points. Samuelson signed a two-year, $355,000 deal with the Fever ahead of last season and earned $175,000 in 2024, according to the website Her Hoops Stats. Her Fever contract was protected so Indiana offered her a buyout. The terms of her contract with Seattle were not disclosed. The 27-year-old wing started 24 games for Seattle, averaging 7.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists that season. Samuelson currently is playing in the Unrivaled 3-on-3 league in Miami. She was named to the U.S. 3-on-3 Olympic team for the Tokyo Games in 2021, but had to back out at the last minute after contracting COVID-19. It's been an offseason of change for the Storm, who traded star guard Jewell Loyd to Las Vegas as part of a three-way deal that gave them the No. 2 pick in the draft. Seattle signed free agent Alysha Clark and traded for Lexie Brown as well as re-signing Nneka Ogwumike. The Fever have undergone major changes in their roster this offseason to help Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston. Indiana added Natasha Howard, DeWanna Bonner, Sophie Cunningham, Sydney Colson and Brianna Turner. Indiana also changed coaches, bringing in Stephanie White.
