Sydney has scored an underground Negroni den by the Bar Planet team – and it's hot as hell
Hell yeah: a brand-new underground bar has opened in Sydney's CBD, dedicated to one of the world's best bittersweet, red-hued cocktails – and my personal favourite – the Negroni. Called Herbs Taverne, the Clarence Street drinking den comes courtesy of Mucho Group – the team behind Sydney favourites Bar Planet, Tio's, Cantina OK! and Centro 86 (winner of Time Out Sydney's Best Cocktail Bar Award 2025). Expect 45 amaros from Italy, the US, Japan and beyond, as well as a line-up of excellent bittersweet cocktails, including three riffs on a Negroni, seasonal numbers, and fun and fruity frozen tipples. 'We're honoured to open our sixth beautiful venue, Herbs Taverne,' says Daisy Tulley, Mucho Group general manager. 'Herbs is another nugget of joy for Sydney – a warm, cosy, artistic space with delicious, surprising cocktails and an inclusive and empathic team who are ready to make memories. And the popcorn recipe is our best yet.' Tulley isn't kidding. I don't know exactly what they sprinkle on Herbs' complimentary popcorn – said to be 'reminiscent of a Chicago deep-dish pizza drizzled with hot honey' – but to me, it tastes cheesy, salty and like popcorn crack. Start with the Herbs Negroni. Made with gin, Campari and a custom blend of two red vermouths (one rich, one bright), it's close to the classic, but with a Mucho stamp. The Fernando – their take on Fernet & Coke – features house-distilled orange coriander vodka paired with Fernet and Chinotto. For something refreshing, go for the Americana, a riff on the Americano, served over lemon granita. I also like the sound of the fresh and zesty Seagreen, with vodka, sake, rocket, lime and sugarcane. 'We're looking to the deeper Sydney pantry, from the Chinese supermarket to the weird Euro throwback shop in the Inner West,' says Jeremy Blackmore, creative director at Mucho Group. 'We're trying to connect flavours that sing together, without being boxed into the expectations of their origin. Delicious cocktails that step just far enough outside of frame to feel distinctively Mucho.' Inspired by 1900s theatre, '60s diners, German shoe shops and Flemish Renaissance paintings, the neon-red space rocks. A black-and-red chequered floor is complemented by old-school chairs, a glittering disco ball, and a wall feature that looks like a giant caterpillar with a shell-like skin. And it's all backed up by a groovy early-2000s soundtrack. Tulley adds: 'A few people have already said, 'Herbs is my favourite Mucho venue yet'. I don't like to play favourites, but Herbs has a special place in my heart. I just love it and I think Sydney will too.'

If the answer is more than zero, then you most likely appreciate a good herb. Now, thanks to our friends at Umbrella Corporation you no longer need to rummage around alleyway dumpsters and desk drawers to find them. All your favorite colors of herbs can be found at Capcom Stores and Cafes in Tokyo, Osaka, Kobe, Sendai, or online for 864 yen each. First, recover some life with some Green Herbs tea, which is a blend of green tea and spearmint which is sure to refresh and invigorate. Next up, we have some Red Herbs that can finally be used on their own. This tea merges the flavors and aromas of hibiscus, rosehips, and a sweet touch of stevia. It might not serve to enhance other herbs this time around, but it sure will enhance your afternoon. Blue Herbs matches its unique color with the distinct fragrance of moringa and a hint of stevia. It's a firm taste that's meant to represent the poison-resisting effects of blue herbs. Finally, extend your life gauge with the classically clean and elegant chamomile tea which represents the Yellow Herbs of the game. Umbrella Corporation would like to kindly remind everyone that these teas should not be used in place of actual Resident Evil Herbs and there is no guarantee they can heal you from mortal wounds, treat/prevent poisoning, or prolong your life. Doctors are still your best option for all those things. Nevertheless, judging by the reaction in comments online, many people are curious to try some of these. Many also had the obvious thought of anyone who's played the games. 'I wonder what it would taste like if I blended them together.' 'Now I won't have to worry about getting bitten by a zombie.' 'Looks interesting. I want to try some.' 'Seems like they would be more effective if I blended them.' 'They should make some decorative herbs too.' 'I usually only carry First-Aid Sprays.' 'They should have come out with this ages ago.' Making it so the teas could be mixed would have been a genius move for this product. That surely would have taken a lot of research and development to pull off though, so maybe if this run of Resident Evil Herb herbal teas is a hit, they'll go back to the drawing board for that in the next edition. So, be sure to clear out some space in that large briefcase you always seem to have but are inexplicably never seen carrying around to pick up these useful items. I usually ditch the flash grenades since I can never be bothered to use them. The 160g packs have been mistakenly marked with an incorrect date of May 30, 2025. The product, priced at £2.94, can be found on Asda's website. This recall does not impact other chicken items or products with different use-by dates from Asda. In an online notice, Asda said: "If you have purchased Asda Hot and Spicy chicken breast slices with a se by date of the 30 May, please bring it back to your nearest store where you will be given a full refund. "You do not need your receipt. We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused." Customers who have bought these chicken slices and wish to speak directly with Asda are encouraged to dial their customer care line on 0800 952 0101. According to the Mirror, a separate notice from the Food Standards Agency website reads: "If you have bought the above product do not eat it. Instead, return it to your nearest store for a refund. For further information, contact ASDA's customer relations line on: 0800 952 0101." The recalled potatoes have a use-by date of April 12 and bear the barcode 4061463488152. Meanwhile, Morrisons has issued a recall for its own-brand The Best 6 Thick Cumberland Sausages, which may contain small fragments of blue plastic.
