Kehlani Pens Note to ‘Hero' Mariah Carey After Their Collab: ‘This Woman Is the Definition of an Icon'

Kehlani's childhood idol is now one of her collaborators, with Mariah Carey tapping the R&B singer for new song 'Sugar Sweet.' And on the day of the track's release Friday (July 25), Kehlani penned a sweet note gushing about how meaningful it was to work with someone who was so influential in their life growing up. 'nobody speak to me i got a song with the one and only @mariahcarey,' she wrote, sharing a promotional photo for the song, which also features Shenseea. 'Sugar Sweet' marks the second single fans have gotten from Carey's upcoming album Here for It All, which will drop in September. Mimi has also shared the song 'Type Dangerous' from the set, locking in her milestone 50th entry on the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this summer with the track. Kehlani is also fresh off the release of a new track titled 'Folded,' which dropped in June via Atlantic Records. The star's last album, Crash, arrived in July last year and reached No. 25 on the Billboard 200. See Kehlani's post below. Mariah Carey Reveals the Promise Rihanna Made (and Probably Didn't Keep) After Mimi Signed Her Chest

At one of her holiday concerts in Brooklyn last year, Mariah Carey made her mark on Rihanna — literally. Months later, though, the Songbird Supreme is pretty sure it's long gone. While guesting on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday night (July 24), Carey told guest host Fortune Feimster about the moment she autographed the Fenty mogul's chest at a Christmas Time tour show in Brooklyn, N.Y. In a video of the moment that went viral last December, Mimi signed her name in red marker on Ri's left breast, while Ri proclaimed, 'Wow, this is iconic … Mariah Carey is signing my tit, y'all!' 'Sometimes on someone's arm or something,' she continued, noting that the Smurfs star got special treatment. 'That was a unique moment. We love Rihanna.' As for whether Ri got the autograph tattooed as promised, the five-time Grammy winner remarked skeptically, 'She said she was going to, but somehow, I don't think that happened.' Rihanna was one of thousands of fans who attended a stop on Carey's 2024 holiday run, which built on the superstar's tradition of scheduling Christmastime concerts to promote evergreen Billboard Hot 100 hit 'All I Want for Christmas Is You' each year. Carey is now gearing up to release Here for It All, her first studio album in seven years. So far, Carey has shared 'Type Dangerous' and 'Sugar Sweet' featuring Kehlani and Shenseea from Here for It All, which will drop Sept. 26. When Feimster asked her why she kept fans waiting so long for new music after 2018's Caution, Carey had a straightforward answer. 'I was just getting it together,' she replied on Kimmel. 'I would make, like, four songs, and then I'd be like, 'We can start making an album now,' and then I'd never do it. Then I got up to 10 songs and we were basically ready for an album.' Mariah Carey Just Learned Katy Perry Went to Space Months Ago & Has the Perfect Response

Mariah Carey might be a star, but she has no interest in going to space — even if Katy Perry recently did, not that Mimi had heard anything about it. In a memorable moment from her interview with BBC Radio 2 posted Thursday (Aug. 7), Carey learns for the very first time that Perry was part of Blue Origin's first-ever all-female trip past the Earth's atmosphere, despite the event being all over the news in April. 'Did she go to space? Where'd she go?' the Songbird Supreme asks after the interviewer brings it up. Carey continues in her characteristically reserved manner. 'She's like, floating in the … And this is true? Wow. All right, Katy. I'm not mad at her, that's pretty amazing.' When asked whether she'd ever take a trip to the stars, Carey had a hilariously snarky response. 'I think I've done enough,' she said simply. Though Mimi missed it, Perry's journey to space was widely publicized this past spring. She was one of several women who flew approximately 62 miles above Earth on a rocket trip organized by Jeff Bezos' space tech company, riding the line between the atmosphere and outer space before coming back down after about 10 minutes. The expedition was also widely criticized at the time, with some people calling it a waste of resources. Perry, however, described it as an empowering step forward for women, telling press shortly after she touched down, 'It's about making space for future women and taking up space and belonging … this is all for the benefit of Earth.' Keeping her feet planted firmly on the ground, Carey is more focused on blasting off on a new album era as opposed to in a rocket ship. The star will release Here for It All in September, following singles 'Type Dangerous' and 'Sugar Sweet' featuring Kehlani and Shenseea. Watch Carey learn about Perry's space adventure below. Mariah Carey Is Looking For The Kind Of Comeback She Managed Two Decades Ago

20 years ago, Mariah Carey managed one of the most impressive comebacks of all time when "We Belong ... More Together" hit No. 1 on the Hot 100. Two decades later, she's trying again. (Photo by Marc Bryan-Brown/WireImage) Even two decades after one of the most impressive returns in pop history, Mariah Carey still isn't done proving herself. In 2005, she reemerged as a powerhouse on the Billboard charts with The Emancipation of Mimi after years of personal and professional turbulence. The set was a behemoth, and it all began with 'We Belong Together,' which showed that one of the biggest stars in music history had finally found her footing. Now, with new singles out and an album on the horizon, the icon is eyeing another comeback — this time in an industry that looks nothing like the one she once dominated. 'We Belong Together' Reestablished Mariah Carey as a Hitmaker In March of 2005, Carey unveiled 'We Belong Together,' a slow-burning R&B ballad that reminded the world of her vocal prowess and songwriting talents. The track didn't just perform well — it became one of the biggest smashes of the decade. The tune would spend 14 nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 in the summer of that year, and it quickly stood out as one of the longest-running leaders ever. The Emancipation of Mimi Launched a New Mariah Carey Powered by the success of 'We Belong Together,' The Emancipation of Mimi launched to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and quickly became one of the bestselling albums of the year. The project spawned additional smashes like 'Don't Forget About Us' and fan favorites such as 'Shake It Off.' Critics hailed it as her strongest effort in years, and from the moment that the first single dropped – and certainly once it began ruling the Hot 100 – it was clear that her comeback was complete. Here for It All Marks a New Chapter In 2025, Carey is back with new music, and she's looking for the same kind of comeback that she secured 20 years ago. Her new album Here for It All is scheduled for release on September 26, and she's already previewed the project with two singles: 'Type Dangerous,' a sleek, modern production that arrived in early June, and 'Sugar Sweet,' a multi-artist collaboration featuring Shenseea and Kehlani, which dropped in late July. So far, neither have become huge commercial wins, but this is a special chapter for Carey, and a comeback can look and sound different this time around. Beyond 'All I Want for Christmas Is You' For years now, Carey's annual seasonal dominance with 'All I Want for Christmas Is You' has made her a fixture at the top of the Hot 100 every December. But even as that single reclaims the No. 1 spot toward the end of the year – something the singer openly embraces – Carey is looking to be known for more than just the one tune. 'We Belong Together' made her a superstar once more, the kind that could be counted on to produce a radio giant. Carey's latest chapter further underscores her abilities as a songwriter, a singer, and as a woman who continues to redefine her legacy with both decades-old tunes and new work at the same time, which is an incredibly tricky feat.
