Royal Challengers Bengaluru make it to fourth IPL final, equal Kolkata Knight Riders; who has most final appearances?
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru powered their way to their fourth Indian Premier League final after they swept aside Punjab Kings in the Qualifier 1 game on Thursday. PBKS topped the table in the IPL 2025 league stage but were no match for a rampant RCB in Mullanpur, as RCB knocked off their target of 102 with 8 wickets and 60 balls to spare. The Bengaluru franchise equalled defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders's record of reaching four IPL finals. They join an elite list of teams with the most IPL final appearances. The list of teams with the most appearances in the summit clash are: Chennai Super Kings - 10 finals (5 wins) Mumbai Indians - 6 finals (5 wins) The Bengaluru side are on the cusp of history, as they have never won an IPL title in the 17 editions of the competition that have taken place so far. They have made three appearances in the summit clash and have failed to win each one of them. They first reached the IPL final in 2009 at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa, where they met the now defunct Deccan Chargers. This was a final of the previous IPL season's bottom two teams. DC batted first and reached 143/6 powered by a Herschelle Gibbs half century (53), who was ably supported by Andrew Symonds (33 of 21) and a young Rohit Sharma (24 of 23). RCB, in response, could muster only 137 as they fell short by 7 runs in the final. Virat Kohli scored only 7 in the second innings as DC ran out winners. RCB's second IPL final was at the MA Chidambaram Stadium against Chennai Super Kings. Here too RCB batted second as CSK posted a mammoth 205/5. RCB meekly surrendered as they ended up with just 147/8, gifting the Chennai side their second consecutive title. The Bengaluru side's third final appearance came in 2016 at their home ground M Chinnaswamy stadium. They met the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the summit clash and batted second for the third time in a row in an IPL final. SRH posted an imposing 208/7 and here too RCB failed to chase the target on hand. However, they did put up a better fight than the last time around as they scored 200/7 in their 20 overs. It remains to be seen who RCB will face in the IPL 2025 final. Regardless of who they face, the Bengaluru franchise would hope it will be 'fourth time lucky' as they hope to finally break the final curse. Stay updated on all the action from the IPL 2025. 'The Gibbs': Has Herschelle tied the knot again?
Former Proteas player Herschelle Gibbs has fuelled rumours that he has married again. The retired cricketer proposed to his partner, Hungarian model Dana Németh, two years ago. The 51-year-old has been married once before and has two children from separate women. He also had two other high-profile breakups with two different women. On his Instagram account, Herschelle Gibbs posted a picture alongside his fiancée, Dana Németh. The couple posed alongside their golden retriever, Scooter, who has his own Instagram account. Herschelle captioned the post: 'Enjoy the long weekend, from the Gibbs's.' Although the couple announced their engagement in a romantic proposal in 2023, they have made no mention of their wedding date. Herschelle Gibbs' romance with his brunette bombshell is one of many high-profile romances he has been in. In 1996, Hershelle fathered a son – Rashard – with ex Liesl Fuller. The woman told various tabloids that they split on bitter terms and that the cricketer was an 'absent father'. She said: 'He convinced himself I'd tried to entrap him when I fell pregnant. That wasn't the case. I was young and naïve. I was just a child'. Herschelle and his son have since developed a close bond. In 2007, Herschelle Gibbs married Tenielle Povey, but their union lasted just one year. According to the retired star, the relationship was physically abusive on his end. The famous cricketer would go on to date blonde women, Sherrin Davie and Gill Phillips Clemen, in 2014 and 2019, respectively. Also in 2019, Herschelle was ordered to pay thousands in child support to another baby mama, Anna. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1 . No reason why SA can't win CT: Gibbs
Former South African opener Herschelle Gibbs is confident that Temba Bavuma's team will discard the weight of the old baggage and once again win the ICC Champions Trophy title that it first bagged in 1998. The 50-year-old is happy with how the South Africa team has shaped up in the ongoing Champions Trophy. Speaking exclusively to Telecom Asia Sport ( Gibbs said the SA teams and its coach need to be more proactive in the Champions Trophy. "We won the first one in 1998. We haven't really come close since then but I think our middle-order batting power has made a big difference over the last couple of years, and, for me, it is how the coach uses players like (Heinrich) Klassen, (David) Miller, (and Ryan) Rickleton," said Gibbs, who played in the 2004 edition of the event and struck a fine hundred against the West Indies. Gibbs is confident, the current side can go all the way. "No reason why we can't win. Our bowling is second to none, got all the basic skills covered. "If the surface helps the spinners we've got the spinners, if it helps the quicks we've got the quicks. So most importantly for me it's how the coach uses the skillset that he has on offer in a more unpredictable manner.." Asked for his opinion on Bavuma as captain, who is quite underrated, Gibbs backed the Proteas skipper's leadership. "Look I think Temba has done quite well, in his stint as ODI captain. He has got the resources to work with. It's a matter of what you do with your resources - I think he's done OK with regards to that. "He has given the confidence and self-belief to players to execute the skill at the appropriate time and that's what you want with regards to a captain. He's got to get some credit with regards to that, deserves quite a few of it." On what he thought of Virat Kohli's century against Pakistan, Gibbs said, "His fitness levels are fantastic and I hope he plays for another four years and he can. It was nice to see Virat (Kohli). He is my favourite player. India is definitely the favourite (to win the title)."

South African legend Gibbs in Dubai to promote Intercontinental Legends Championship
South African cricket legend Herschelle Gibbs attended the Intercontinental Legends Championship (ILC) trophy unveiling ceremony in Dubai on Thursday which marked the start of an exciting cricket league that will bring together legends from across the globe. The inaugural season of the ILC will be held from March 3 to March 12, 2025, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Dehradun, India, featuring six teams from different continents: Africa Lions, American Strikers, Asian Avengers, Euro Gladiators, Caribbean Hurricanes and Trans Titans. The trophy unveiling event was also graced by Umesh Kumar, MLA (Khanpur, Uttarakhand) and CEO of ILC League; Pradeep Sangwan, promoter of the ILC League; Munaf Patel, former Indian cricketer and Ravindra Bhati, founder of 100 Sports Management Pvt. Ltd., among others. Sangwan, who is also the visionary behind the ILC League, spoke passionately about the league's goals. 'The ILC League is not just a tournament, it aims to unite the world through the game. The speciality of the league is that it will travel around different continents, starting in India, igniting the feeling of competitiveness among players all the more,' he said. Kumar shared his insights into the league's vision and its potential to reshape the future of international cricket. 'Today marks a significant milestone in our journey towards making this event historic. When we planned to start the league, I didn't take it seriously – but its vision, ambition and potential made me believe that this is going to be historic. I want to thank you all who joined us today to celebrate this important day, adding to the excitement,' he said. Gibbs echoed the same emotion of Sangwan highlighting that the league's name says a lot. 'Intercontinental is a bit more about affiliation because continents are involved and that makes the league competitive and different from the other ongoing leagues," the South African legend said. "There's rivalry, intensity and much more… Even though it's legends' cricket, one thing that never fades from the game is competitiveness. I believe the league has a lot to offer in terms of intensity, rivalries on the field apart from its high standard cricket action.' Patel, a key member of India's 2011 World Cup-winning team, said: 'When we quit international cricket, we don't focus on fitness much. But thanks to the legends leagues, we can play with that competitiveness again and it's thrilling to be back in action. ILC is one of the best among the ongoing leagues and I'm proud to be part of it.' The league will be broadcast live on the Sony Network, allowing fans worldwide to witness every moment of the cricketing action.
