Miami Springs baseball player Magdiel Estevez is the Miami Herald's High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll. The senior allowed just one run on two hits and four walks over seven innings (complete game), while striking out six including the final three batters as the Golden Hawks (28-3) edged Santa Rosa Beach South Walton 2-1 to win the Class 3A state championship. It marked the school's first state title in baseball. Meagan Villazon, Doral Academy softball; Kathleen Serig, Gulliver Prep water polo; Isabella Benton, Plantation American Heritage softball; Dane Fox, Westminster Academy water polo; Ava Stevens, Somerset Silver Palms softball; and RJ Machado, Plantation American Heritage baseball rounded out the nominees.

Mater Academy Charter baseball player Eiker Noguera is the Miami Herald's High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll. The senior second baseman went 2-for-3 with an RBI and caught the final out in short right field as the Lions (24-9-1) won the 5A state title over Wesley Chapel 6-1. He was 3-for-3 with a double, two stolen bases and was hit-by-a-pitch and recorded three assists and a putout in a state semifinal win over Fort Myers 8-5. It marked Mater's first state baseball championship since 2014 and second overall. Meagan Villazon, Doral Academy softball; Emma Griffith, Plantation American Heritage softball; Sara Wrzosek, St. Thomas Aquinas softball; Ava Stevens, Somerset Silver Palms softball; Erin Perez, Westminster Christian softball; Andrew Alvarez, St. Thomas Aquinas baseball; Juanmarco Diaz, Miami Southwest boys' volleyball; Ali Solo, Western softball; Diego Cobena, Reagan Doral boys' volleyball; and Gio Rojas, Stoneman Douglas baseball rounded out the nominees. The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week poll opens Sunday every week and closes around 10 p.m. Thursday.

Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas boys' lacrosse player Diego Salazar is the Miami Herald's High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll. The junior scored seven goals to lead the Raiders to the FHSAA state championship with a 13-4 victory over Ponte Vedra. It marked the fourth state title for St. Thomas Aquinas in boys' lacrosse. Golf season is over in the Lone Star State, but baseball, softball and tennis continue as the spring semester comes to a close. Standouts from each sport are among this week's nominees for the Happy State Bank High School Athlete of the Week. Advertisement The Globe-News is taking weekly nominations and will release a list of finalists for the High School Athlete of the Week each Tuesday. Nominations are due by 5 p.m. Saturday and can be submitted through email at sports@ by messaging the Globe-News through its Facebook page or on Twitter @amarilloglobe. Students in all varsity sports are eligible and can only be named Athlete of the Week one time per season, per sport, and athletes from one school cannot win more than three consecutive weeks. The poll will close Thursday and the winners will be announced Friday each week. Take a moment to look at some of the top performances in the last week and vote on Happy State Bank High School Athlete of the Week This Week's Finalists Bo Bradley, Texline boys golf — Bradley placed first individually at the Class 1A UIL State Golf Tournament, shooting 74 strokes over 18 holes to claim the state title. Lauren Brooks, Canyon girls tennis — Brooks earned a spot at the UIL State Tennis Tournament with a 3-0 showing at the Region I-4A tournament. The Lady Eagles' standout earned a bye in the first round of the state tournament with his performance. Gabby Dishong & Emmalee Sillivent, Randall girls tennis — The girls doubles duo of Dishing and Sillivent turned in a 3-0 performance at the Region I-4A tournament, going 3-0 to earned a bye in the first round of the UIL State Tennis Tournament. Jesse Flores, West Plains baseball — Flores notched four RBIs on two hits to help lead the Wolves to a series win against Mountain View in the area round of the playoffs. Jackson Langford, Randall boys golf — Langford placed fourth individually at the Class 4A UIL State Golf Tournament, shooting 147 in two rounds and helping the Raiders to a fourth-place finish in the team standings. Angel Ochoa, Booker boys tennis — Ochoa earned a spot at the UIL State Tennis Tournament with a 3-0 showing at the Region I-1A tournament. The Kiowas' standout earned a bye in the first round of the state tournament with his performance. Yaritza Vargas, Dumas softball — Vargas notched two clutch hits during the Demonettes' win against Brownwood in the regional semifinals. The sophomore hit an inside-the-park home run to tie the game at 6-6, later knocking a two-RBI triple into the outfield to put Dumas ahead 8-6.
