Glasgow to host first 'ultimate sporting battle' this weekend

Glasgow will host a first-of-its-kind 'ultimate sporting battle' this weekend. Ultimate Frisbee teams from Scotland, England, Ireland, and Wales will compete in the inaugural Four Nations Ultimate (4NU) tournament on Saturday, August 9, at Hillhead Sports Club in the west end of the city. The mixed-gender competition will see national teams battle it out in a fast-paced format, with players showcasing elite-level skill, strategy, and athleticism in a growing sport. "Ultimate Frisbee is an exciting display of skills, tactics, athleticism, and sportsmanship. "Although the sport has a growing following, it is still in its infancy. (Image: Martin Shields) "We are passionate about growing the game and bringing the sport to a whole new generation of players. "The UK and Ireland have a wealth of dedicated and talented athletes and it is our belief that the 4NU format is the best way to showcase our sport to a larger audience. "This unique tournament will unite fans with a festival atmosphere and ignite new rivalries between sporting nations." The event has received sponsorship from The Watson Foundation and is dedicated to the memory of former player Matt Tomlinson. The tournament trophy will be named in his honour, and organisers say the event would not have been possible without the fundraising efforts of the Tomlinson family. Tickets are £5 for adults, with free entry for under-16s. Doors open at noon, with the first game starting at 12.30pm. The finals will take place from 5.50pm.
