GCC delegates to attend a four-day training course organized by the GPSSA

Abu Dhabi - The GPSSA will be hosting a four-day training course entitled 'Insurance Kit – Customer Happiness' from 21 - 24 April to enhance knowledge, experience and collaboration amongst pension authorities across the GCC region. The training, which will be held in the GPSSA Abu Dhabi headquarters, is being organized for delegates in the GCC region as part of an initiative proposed by the GCC's Permanent Technical Committee for Civil Retirement and Social Security Authorities and approved at the 21st meeting of the GCC's heads of civil retirement and social insurance agencies. Such training courses are organized for members of civil retirement and social insurance authorities in the GCC countries to exchange expertise, knowledge and learn more about best practices in insurance and social security. More than 30 delegates will be arriving from pension and social security authorities in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar and the UAE to attend GPSSA's four-day training, which will primarily focus on enhancing technical and administrative skills amongst participants and support them acquire knowledge in their scope of work, with the ability to exchange views and ideas on future challenges and opportunities, while building professional relationships that enhance collaboration amongst various pension authorities in the GCC region. Commenting on the initiative, Hind Al Suwaidi, Executive Director for GPSSA's Pensions Sector, said: 'This training course has been organized by the GPSSA as part of the GCC's overarching commitment to develop the skills of employees working in the pension and social security sector, while empowering them with tools and expertise that enables them to enhance their work environment and provide high-quality services to stakeholders.' She added that citizens and customers benefit from such meetings since they showcase the ongoing commitment and collaboration exerted by officials from across the pension and social security sector in the region, who continue to look into impactful ways to upgrade and develop their services and systems. During the first two days, a course entitled 'Future Skills and Professional Talent' will be delivered by an Emirati expert, Dr. Salem Al Salem, who specializes in HR development, government performance and policy design. The third session entitled: Basics and Introduction to Social Insurance and fourth session, entitled: Practical Application and Initiative Building – Developing Innovative Methods, will be presented by Mr. Mohamed Saqer Al Hammadi, Pension Operations Department Head at the GPSSA. He will discuss a customer's lifespan and journey in social security, and on ways to build insurance systems and tools to best suit the objectives of a customer. Sharifa Mohamed Alblooshi, Customer Happiness Department Head at the GPSSA, will speak about the topic: The Journey to Excellence in Customer Happiness. Abu Dhabi: A delegation from the General Pension and Social Security Authority (GPSSA) participated in a technical seminar entitled 'Innovative Social Security Reforms' to discuss opportunities and emerging challenges related to social security reforms, ranging from innovative use of technology to structural institutional changes. The Technical Seminar, held in Oman from 14 – 15th April, is co-organized by the International Social Security Association (ISSA) and the International Labor Organization (ILO) in cooperation with the ISSA Liaison Office for Arab Countries and hosted by the Social Protection Fund (SPF) of Oman. GPSSA's delegation attending the seminar included Hind Al Suwaidi, Executive Director of the Pensions Sector; Dr. Maysa Rashed Ghadeer, Head of the Government Communication Office; Muna Mohammed Al Dhaheri, Media Section Manager and Wafa Mohamed, Operations Officer (Employer) at the Pension Operations Department. During the seminar, winners from the Scientific Research Award for Civil Retirement and Social Insurance Institutions received an award, launched for the first time in 2024-2025 across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries as a token of support for the future of social protection, while promoting a culture of scientific research in pension and social security. The award received 61 research proposals in its first edition, out of which 29 were qualified. As part of a comprehensive study, 17 research findings covered topics that focus on core challenges facing the insurance sector, most notably sustainable pension funds, actuarial science, the role of technology and digital transformation, institutional investment, legislation and governance mechanisms and the experience of extending insurance coverage as a pioneering model in the region. Hind Al Suwaidi, Pensions Sector Executive Director at the GPSSA was honored as member of the Scientific Research Award's main committee, alongside Dr. Maysa Rashed Ghadeer, Head of GPSSA's Government Communication Office and the award's business manager, in recognition of their pivotal roles in providing necessary support to achieve the award's objectives and raise awareness about it. 'Being recognized by the Scientific Research Award for Civil Retirement and Social Insurance Institutions represents GPSSA's contribution and support towards innovation and scientific research in the fields of pension and insurance. Through our participation in the award, it became evident that more research and studies are required in the social security sector, as they contribute to developing policies and practices that enhance the well-being of pensioners, while offering sustainable pension schemes,' said Ms. Al Suwaidi. Dr. Ghadeer further added that GPSSA's participation in like-minded research seminars offer an opportunity to collaborate, brainstorm, exchange ideas and experiences, while reviewing some of the best practices in the field of social security. 'The discussions, contributions and research practices presented during the seminar, raise opportunities to further develop and improve, while overcoming basic challenges facing the insurance sector such as the need to enhance financial sustainability, diversify funding resources, improve governance and investment and integrate technology into systems management to increase efficiency and transparency.' The seminar focused on presenting national reform experiences under two structuring themes that are of key importance for reforms in the region; the first of which included challenges related to social security financing, ageing societies, climate change, and changing labor markets. The second aimed at exploring reforms that extend coverage, broaden the scope of social security systems through new branches/benefits and enhance benefit adequacy. The seminar concluded with a high-level roundtable on how social security organizations in the region are evolving, thereby sharing experiences, facilitating factors and barriers to institutional changes and reforms. Abu Dhabi - The General Pension and Social Security Authority (GPSSA) participates in the 17th annual seminar entitled 'The Insurance Aspect of Civil Retirement Systems' in Kuwait on 17 - 18 February 2025. A delegation from the GPSSA will be attending the seminar headed by Hind Al Suwaidi, Executive Director, Pensions Sector; Sharifa Alblooshi, Department Head, Customer Happiness; Yahya Albakhit, Inspection Section Manager, Customer Happiness Department; Shaikha Humaid, Contributions Officer, Benefits Management Department and Maysoon Al Derbi, Contributions Officer, Benefits Management Department. The seminar will highlight the role of inspections in ensuring the objectives of the social security and insurance systems are met and achieved, since inspections are considered one of the most powerful techniques to ensure pension and social security authorities carry out their supervisory roles in the insurance process, without having to surpass jurisdiction limits as granted by the Ministry of Justice or the judicial system in each participating country. Attendees are due to discuss the extent by which employers comply with labor market laws and regulations, including the registration of an insured employee, payment of monthly contributions and preserving an employee's rights. The inspection process is carried out through site visits and documentary reviews to ensure policies and procedures are applied correctly and are clear to employers.
