Kerala Minister slams VCs for endorsing 'anti-knowledge' agenda
Kerala Higher Education Minister R Bindu on Monday strongly criticised the participation of some university Vice Chancellors in "Gyan Sabha" organised by an RSS-linked group in Kochi, calling it a "disturbing alignment" with forces seeking to undermine the state's progressive academic legacy. Kerala Minister slams VCs for endorsing 'anti-knowledge' agenda In a sharply worded statement, Minister Bindu accused the Sangh Parivar of being fundamentally opposed to modern, inclusive higher education and warned that its efforts to exert ideological control over universities must be firmly resisted. Her statement came a day after the Vice Chancellors of four universities in Kerala -- reportedly including one appointed by the Left government -- attended the national education conference 'Gyan Sabha', organised by the Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas and inaugurated by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat in Kochi on Sunday. "A modern higher education system that aligns with the needs of today's world is intolerable to the Sangh Parivar," Bindu alleged. "The so-called 'Gyan Sabha' is part of a larger, deeply regressive effort to turn Kerala's knowledge-driven society back towards Brahminical domination. To ignore this agenda is to deny history itself," she said. The Minister singled out certain Vice Chancellors, saying their involvement lent legitimacy to what she described as a "crude, anti-knowledge campaign" aimed at eroding academic freedom and silencing independent thought. "It may be a matter of pride for the RSS that the minds of some Vice Chancellors--who are supposed to lead knowledge creation--have been turned into stables of anti-intellectualism. But for Kerala, it is a matter of deep shame," she added. Minister Bindu warned that attempts to transform inclusive educational institutions into ideological training grounds for a Hindu Rashtra would not be tolerated. For having colluded in chaining academic freedom and independent thought to the saffron stable, these Vice Chancellors will have to hang their heads in shame before the academic community for a long time to come, she said. "The youth and the academic community will expose the Sangh Parivar's dangerous delusion that a crude army of ignorance can be built in Kerala. Enlightened by the true knowledge imparted by genuine teachers, the people of Kerala will cast into the dustbin the Sangh Parivar's schemes that treat the darkness of ignorance as something to be celebrated," Bindu said.

Madhya Pradesh: Four arrested after ‘Hindu Rashtra' banner allegedly burned during Muharram
The Madhya Pradesh Police has arrested four persons following communal tensions in Ratlam district after a banner with the words 'Hindu Rashtra' was allegedly burnt during a Muharram procession on Sunday, reported PTI. The alleged incident took place in the Sailana area, about 20 km from the district headquarters. The four persons were arrested on charges of promoting enmity between groups and acts prejudicial to maintaining harmony, Ratlam Assistant Superintendent of Police Rakesh Khakha told The Times of India. Those arrested were identified as Ajju Shah, Bablu Shah, Shehzad and Bhayyu, the newspaper reported. 'All four of them were sent to jail after being produced before the court,' said Khakha. After a video of the alleged incident was circulated on social media, several Hindutva organisations staged a protest and called for a bandh, demanding that those involved be booked under the National Security Act, which allows for long periods of detention without a trial. Protesters gathered at a major intersection in Sailana and recited the Sunderkand, a chapter from the Hindu epic Ramayana, according to PTI.

Tension in Ratlam over viral video, 4 arrested
Indore: A tense situation emerged in Ratlam district's Sailana tehsil on Monday after a video went viral showing a youth blowing fire onto a banner displaying 'Hindu Rashtra' during a Muharram procession. The incident, which occurred on Sunday night at Masjid Chauraha, caused the banner to partially burn and sparked widespread outrage. The video, which circulated widely on Monday morning, depicts a young man taking a flammable substance (probably petrol) into his mouth and igniting it towards a saffron banner emblazoned with the words 'Hindu Rashtra' in large script. Following the viral video, the Sarva Hindu Samaj and other religious and social organisations condemned the act as deliberate and an insult to the saffron flag. In protest, markets in the area remained closed. Hindu organisations also highlighted that a large number of people were present at the scene, but no one intervened to stop the youth. They demanded strict action against the accused under the National Security Act (NSA). Angered by the incident, protesters gathered at Masjid Chauraha and sat on the road to recite the Hanuman Chalisa. Senior police officials, including Sailana SDOP Neelam Baghel, Ratlam Rural SDOP Kishore Patanwala, and Station In-charge Suresh Gadaria, were present at the scene to manage the situation. ASP Rakesh Khakha assured the gathered crowd that strict action would be taken against the four arrested individuals and the organisers of the event. Following this assurance, the protest was called off. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to prevent any further escalation. Ratlam Police launched a probe to verify the authenticity of the video, while security forces were also deployed in the area as a precautionary measure to maintain peace. By afternoon, the police arrested four persons for promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, caste, or community, and acts that are prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony, the ASP said. The arrested persons have been identified as Ajju Shah, son of Ramjani Shah, resident of Masjid Chauraha; Bablu Shah, resident of Kabristan Road; Shehzad, son of Salim Mev; and Bhayyu, son of Munna Khan Pathan, both residents of Kalika Mata Road in Sailana, police said. "A case has been registered against these four under Section 196 of BNS. All four of them were sent to jail after being produced before the court. Further probe was on," the ASP said.

Beware Of Narendra Modi Government's Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas
By Dr. Gyan Pathak Government of India led by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is observing June 25, 2025, as the first Savmidhan Hatya Diwas (the Day of Killing the Constitution of India), to remember the day of proclamation of emergency at midnight of June 25, 1975 in the country by the then prime minister Indira Gandhi. It presents an irony – the Constitution of India has always been under threat from the power – whether it was 1975 under PM Indira Gandhi or 50 years later in 2025 under PM Narendra Modi. Hence, it is an occasion to beware of Narendra Modi led government's Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas, since he represents RSS clan which has a long-cherished dream of killing the Constitution of India by replacing it by Hindu Rashtra. 'Samvidhaan Hatya' is just a hype, since the Constitution of India, has never been killed despite grave violations of its provisions. It was neither killed in 1975, not it was reborn anytime later. Even PM Modi has indirectly accepted when he talked about 'BR Ambedkar's Constitution'. It is under that Constitution, India is still being governed since its adoption on November 26, 1949, and came into effect since January 26, 1950. It is under this Constitution of India, even PM Narendra Modi is Prime minister of India. Is it then not a hype to compare some 'grave violation' to 'killing' of the Constitution of India. Whence the word 'killing' came from? There is a term 'reverse psychology', that explains that the word 'killing' had come from their own heart, that cherishes a dream to kill the 'secular democratic federal Constitution of India' and replace it by 'Hindutva despotic centralized' constitution. It is under this general background, in which the people in power are trying to cloak themselves, and their numerous anti-Constitutional activities under the garb of this observance called Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas, it is a matter of serious concern for the common people. The threat is from the power itself. Gazette notification to observe Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas was made on July 11, 2024, when Modi government was under serious attack from the entire opposition for causing miscarriage of numerous provisions of the Constitution of India under his rule since 2014. Since, the Congress was leading the INDIA bloc, was in the forefront of the attack on PM Narendra Modi led government, the Modi government decided to observe Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas, to humiliate the current Congress leadership, and to undermine the legacy of Congress, in the freedom movement and development of India after independence of India. The politics thus goes on, and the hype can be seen even in the gazette notification by the Ministry of Home Affairs. 'Whereas, a proclamation of Emergency was made on 25th June, 1975, following which there was gross abuse of power by the Government of the day and people of India were subjected to excesses and atrocities; And whereas, people of India abiding faith in the Constitution of India and the power of India's resilient democracy; Therefore, Government of India declares 25th June as 'Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas' to pay tribute to all those who suffered and fought against the gross abuse of power during the period of Emergency and to recommit the people of India to not support in any manner such gross abuse of power, in future.' One can see in the text that 'Samvidhaan Hatya' word is not well supported by the content of the gazette itself. It was an official notification and hence free from use of the word 'Congress' or 'Indira Gandhi'. Nevertheless, on the very next day of the notification PM Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shat spoke on party line. The purpose in the notification was 'to commit the people of India to not support in any manner … gross abuse of power, in future'. However, PM's and HM's statement indicated the real purpose as 'not to support the Congress'. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who have a dream of 'Congress Mukta Bharat' spilled the bean. He talked about 'the excess of the Emergency, a Congress unleashed dark phase of Indian history.' And Union Home Minister said about 'the then PM Indira Gandhi, in a brazen display of a dictatorial mindset, strangled the soul of our democracy … Lakhs of people thrown behind bars … and the voice of the media was silenced.' Therefore, the real purpose of 'Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas' is to run political campaign against the Congress. What have been said by the RSS-BJP leaders today during the first observance of the 'Samvidhaan Hatay Diwas' were targeted against the Congress implying that people must not support such party that brought emergency in the past. RSS-BJP leaders have a particular characteristic – they live either in the glory of the ancient past, or live in a dream of the future. For every evil during their rule, they blame the past rulers, while go on whatever they want to do even against the provision of the Constitution of India. There can be numerous examples of that. Take the example of secularism, enshrined under the Constitution of India. RSS clan talk about Hindutva, and mislead people that secular forces are pseudo-secular, while they are real secular. RSS did not participate even in the Quit India Movement, and when India became independent, even the national flag was not unfurled in the RSS headquarters for most of the years in the independent India. Now they are teaching us what is nationalism, and even they campaigned for 'Ghar Ghar Tiranga'. They don't respect the constitution of India, when they give a call for Hindu Rashtra. Hate speech is their modus operandi of winning the elections, by polarizing Hindus in their favour. And what about the Election Commission of India? ECI's autonomy has been compromised through legal interventions and provisions made by the government. Constitutional protection is not given to two of the three Commissioners. Several election process data are not even been shared with the opposition, that led the Leader of the Opposition to allege 'match fixing'. Electoral bond implemented by Modi government was found by the Supreme Court of India to be unconstitutional. Supreme Court of India has criticized Modi government on several occasions for its anti-constitutional behaviour. In case of respecting Constitutional Federalism, and also in case of Governors, the Supreme Court of India found Modi government interfering with elected state governments. It collects GST, but not gives the due share in time to opposition ruled states. Supreme Court of India has several times criticized the BJP led Central government and state governments for extra judicial killings, illegal arrests, misuse of investigating agencies, and gross misuse of power against opposition leaders or anyone who opposes government's decisions and policies. Government's bulldozer justice has also been criticized by the Supreme Court of India. In reality, PM Narendra Modi led Government of India is in conflict with constitutional values on numerous counts. Opposition political parties have been voicing their concern that Constitution of India is under serious threat under Modi rule since 2014. Congress says it is 'Undeclared Emergency'. Legislature, Judiciary, and the fourth estate that is media in under threat. Privacy is fundamental right, as declared by the nine judges Constitutional Bench decision of the Supreme Court in 2017. Nevertheless, India is being turned into a surveillance state, through several laws, policies, and technology. People are paying for exercising their right to free speech. Dissenting voices are being crushed. It is in this background, the power which is alleged to be behind undermining the Constitutional values in every respect, is observing 'Shamvidhan Hatya Diwas' should serve as a wakeup call for citizens, since it is this power lobby from which the Constitution is under threat. 'The Hindu Manifesto': A Comprehensive Global Manual Of Governance
Last Updated: The book has 8 chapters that provide a Hindu view of different aspects of governance that could lead to an ideal society The Hindu Manifesto is not a complex book. It is not a book on Hindutva. It is a simple book based on very deep and wide-ranging research by a sadhu scholar, Swami Vigyananand. You can actually feel the labour of seven years of research in creating this book. His research is complex, but his presentation is not. The Hindu Manifesto is not a manifesto for Hindu Rashtra nor a manifesto for Hindus alone. It presents to the world a comprehensive manual of governance based on Dharma, understood as duty in our respective roles and ethical behaviour based on belief in our innate nobility as human beings. The book has 8 chapters that provide a Hindu view of different aspects of governance that could lead to an ideal society. The narrative is simple. The author quotes chosen gems of invocations, suktas, mantras and shlokas from different Hindu scriptures right from Vedic times to the time till invaders managed to damage our governance, knowledge base, and social systems to a great extent. Even those periods could not destroy those principles completely till the British came, dismantled it brick by brick and handed over governance to the leaders who were trained in Western models of governance with no training or understanding of their own rich knowledge system or systems of governance. Women cannot commit sins; it is men who become the culprits and sinners. Due to being forced into submission and exploited due to their vulnerability, women cannot be deemed offenders (page 244). The wife has a right to dissolve her marriage if her husband is considered unworthy due to factors such as his low character, residence in a foreign country, disloyalty to the nation, involvement in criminal activities like murder, departure from moral principles, lack of integrity, impotence, and unmanliness (page 247). However, the same group of self-professed feminists and liberals would be disappointed that their pet theory of misogyny and women's supposed inferior position does not stand the scrutiny of Hindu texts. On page 218, the author tells us about 28 Brahmavadini (female sages) who appear in the Rigveda. Scriptures tell us that the son is like oneself, and the daughter is like the son[…] A daughter is like a son; she will be the one to carry forward the family lineage (page 220). It quotes evidence of boys and girls studying in the same Gurukul (page 233). The writer dwells at length on the social equity and casteism, providing evidence that the theories of caste discrimination are more myths than historical reality. He explores and helps the reader understand the concepts of varna, jati, jatiya, and jnati, according to Panini's grammar and other rishis (page 271). The Mahabharata notes that in all the varnas, there are no special signs or distinct markers. Everyone originates from Bhagwan Brahma; thus, everyone is considered as Brahmin (page 279). The author quotes KS Lal in an annexure, concluding that the growth and evolution of scheduled tribes and castes in medieval Bharat were significantly influenced by their active participation in sociopolitical and economic spheres (page 303). While the world has made us believe that we were only spiritually inclined and had no interest in accumulating wealth and enjoying life, the scriptures confirm that we believed in producing, consuming, and enjoying within the framework of Dharma. Artha (prosperity) for us was the basis of our life. Dharma, kama, heaven results from artha. Without artha, life in the world would be unsustainable (page 12). Many texts talk about taxation. Taxation is akin to extracting juice from a palmyra tree (page 29). A state should take only one-sixth of people's income as taxes (page 35). To achieve this level of prosperity, education was considered of critical importance. A rishi says, there is no greater vision in the world than education (Vidya), and there is no greater reward than education (page 102). Scriptures also note that Learning, Penance, and a great deal of wealth–all these can be obtained through diligent work. Therefore, one should recognise the importance of hard work. […]The state should prioritise a single learned and knowledgeable individual over thousands of illiterate fools, as such individuals can greatly contribute during an economic crisis (page 199). A shloka of Shukra Samhita lists out various types of Vidya, of which there is Yavan philosophy too (page 109). Which means we were not cocooned, but had a great understanding of the world around us. In Hindu society, our ancestors have placed significant emphasis on the importance of politics, The Hindu sutra is Responsible Democracy–Politics is a refuge, a place of safety, for all living beings (page 126). We did not believe that politics is the last resort of a scoundrel. A shloka says, Rajadharma (politics) is like a boat that floats on the ocean of dharma. The attributes of satva (truth and purity) serve as the oars to steer the boat. Dharmashastra acts as the ropes that tie it. With the help of renunciation in the form of wind, the boat moves swiftly, allowing it to cross the worldly sea (page 132). Another set of shlokas describes thirty attributes of an effective head of state (page 166). How should a state treat its citizens? The author quotes, 'The state should provide support and care for weak and vulnerable individuals, including the blind, deaf, lame, disabled, those with limb loss and wandering monks" (page 145). It also enjoins that the state should take care of widows, orphans, the disabled, and the destitute (page 190). Oppression of people by the state is forbidden (page 194). The author notes that the state should not oppress its people by extracting excessive taxes, as this undermines the prescribed rules and ultimately leads to the destruction of the state (page 195). And, for minor mistakes made by its people, a state should not resort to mutilation, execution, or various forms of torture (page 196). Our sages caution that some entrepreneurs, both poor and wealthy, have become wealthy in a short period. Ministers and tax collectors should not be misled by others to believe that their success was achieved through improper means (page 31). It means trust your citizens. On the environment, our scriptures and shastras exhort us and the state to take care of nature. The state's responsibility to the citizens also includes the preservation of the environment. The author goes to great lengths to prove that our scriptures do not ask for animal sacrifice in yagna. Then it goes on to quote shlokas that tell us to use grains, that too, which are older than three years (not fit for seeding). We are told: The paddy, barley, gold, and animals on this earth are not sufficient for one person. Therefore, one should give up craving (page 308). This means responsible, restrained consumption. A series of shlokas to prove that the tree, its leaves, bark and fruit and flowers possess life. When trees are cut, new sprouts germinate, and they experience pleasure and pain. From this, one can infer that trees have a living persona; they are not inanimate (page 333). Big water reservoirs should be built in all regions of the state and filled with water to ensure that crops are not destroyed due to a lack of rainfall (page 21). The state should protect timber forests, elephant habitats, miners, and bridges. Additionally, it should grow new forests, construct bridges, and undertake other developments as needed (page 338). Chanakya instructs that, if any person kills, catches or injures deer, rhinoceroses, buffaloes, peacocks or fish in reserve forests and sanctuaries or in large educational institutions where killing or catching is prohibited, the officials there should inflict the severest punishment on them. If any member of the royal family violates this directive, they should also be punished (pages 210-311). Showing its respect for the environment, a profound shloka says, 'Everything on this earth is created and eventually returns to it, making it the home to every living being and renowned as the ultimate refuge for all creatures" (page 319). Bharatiya civilisation may be the only civilisation that treats its land of birth like a mother and worships it. There are many suktas shlokas from Vedic times and later that describe Bharatvarsh as the motherland, with clear mention of its boundaries. The geography of Bharat is described at great length in the Mahabharata. The states that joined the Mahabharata war paid tributes to King Yudhishthir, covering half the earth. Even China was once ruled by King Mandhata (page 351). Such is the strong connection with the nation that a shloka says, those who seek to increase their fortune through unscrupulous means, harming and betraying their country, are like vermin feeding on a corpse (page 361). Rishis of Atharvaveda, call out: O beloved Motherland, our people should not harbour enmity among themselves. Instead, they should unite, especially our leaders, who must work together for the country's betterment. Our land nurtures a variety of vegetation and herbs that cure diseases and provide nourishment. O beloved motherland, elevate our reputation across the world (page 368). The above quotations are just a glimpse of the wisdom that flows through The Hindu Manifesto. One needs to read the book, a virtual manual for any political leader who wishes to rule a country or a state, anywhere in the world. Because the principles of statecraft are universal and have been described so well by our ancient leaders in philosophy and statecraft. top videos View all This global manifesto of governance stands true for any nation, irrespective of the religion it follows or the type of governance it has. Swami Vigyananand could bring out such a universal manual of governance because Hindu dharma or Santan Dharma is universal, inclusive, non-discriminatory, for the human beings who form our societies and nations. It is truly a liberal worldview. The reviewer is a well-known author and political commentator.
