Alexander Hernandez vs. Kurt Holobaugh prediction, pick, start time for UFC Fight Night 254
Alexander Hernandez and Kurt Holobaugh meet Saturday on the main card of UFC Fight Night 254 at UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom. Last event: 2-3 UFC main cards, 2025: 19-16-1 Alexander Hernandez vs. Kurt Holobaugh UFC Fight Night 254 preview Hernandez (15-8 MMA, 7-7 UFC) will attempt to remain above .500 in his UFC tenure with a second straight victory. Hernandez enters his first fight of the year on the heels of a split decision win over Austin Hubbard in October. The result snapped a two-fight skid of decisions to Damon Jackson and Bill Algeo. … 'The Ultimate Fighter 31' winner Holobaugh (21-8 MMA, 2-5 UFC) continues his third UFC stint, looking to score back-to-back wins. In his previous outing, Holobaugh picked up a unanimous decision win over Kaynan Kruschewsky in July. Alexander Hernandez vs. Kurt Holobaugh UFC Fight Night 254 expert pick, prediction Serving as a solid action fight at 155 pounds is a showdown between former featherweights, Hernandez and Holobaugh. Despite coming into this fight with a slight lean toward Hernandez, I ended up on the Holobaugh side after watching back the tape. Holobaugh may be older with less explosivity than his counterpart, but the Louisiana native has a deceptive amount of experience and skills under his belt. Nasty transitional work by Kurt Holobaugh, using the crossface during the get up to land a body knee and an elbow to the head. — Feño 🏴 (@fenoxsky) March 13, 2025 More importantly, Holobaugh is a high-paced, in-your-face action fighter, which is a style that I suspect Hernandez struggles with. Hernandez has faced grinding fighters before, but those fighters lacked the skills, dimensions and durability that Holobaugh brings to the table. Unless Hernandez can surprise Holobaugh with something out of the gate early, then he'll likely have to revert his style to a wrestling-heavy approach if he means to neutralize Holobaugh (something we haven't seen Hernandez do since his win over Olivier Aubin-Mercier seven years ago). A competitive dogfight to a decision is the most likely outcome, but I'll go ahead and take a flier on Holobaugh to overwhelm Hernandez en route to a standing stoppage in Round 2. Alexander Hernandez vs. Kurt Holobaugh UFC Fight Night 254 odds The oddsmakers and the public are favoring the younger fighter, listing Hernandez -220 and Holbaugh +176 via FanDuel. Alexander Hernandez vs. Kurt Holobaugh UFC Fight Night 254 start time, how to watch As the co-main event, Hernandez and Holobaugh are expected to walk to the cage at approximately 8:40 p.m. ET. The fight will stream on ESPN+. For more on the card, visit MMA Junkie's event hub for UFC Fight Night 254.

38-year-old veteran Kurt Holobaugh chasing spot in UFC rankings: 'I think that it's possible'
LAS VEGAS – Kurt Holobaugh has seen a lot throughout his 10-year-plus career fighting professionally in MMA. However, one thing that's eluded him all these years has been a spot in the UFC official rankings. The 38-year-old lightweight veteran is looking to crack the top 15 of the UFC rankings as his next career goal, and he thinks he's got the perfect opportunity to close in on that goal. Holobaugh (22-8 MMA, 2-5 UFC) takes on Alexander Hernandez on the main card of UFC Fight Night 255 (ESPN+), which takes place Saturday at the UFC Apex. 'Big fight,' Holobaugh said at Wednesday's media day. 'I feel like a guy like me that's been in the UFC for quite a while, I want those type of fights. Whenever the UFC gave me that name, I was more than happy to take it, knowing it was going to be a tough test, but if I can go out there and get a win over a guy like Alex, I think that says a lot. I think that says I truly belong in the UFC.' Holobaugh is coming off a unanimous decision win over Kaynan Kruschewsky last July. He's also 4-1 in his past five outings. Holobaugh believes a win over Hernandez (15-8 MMA, 7-7 UFC) on Saturday puts him on track to get ranked. 'I feel like I've accomplished a lot, winning the Contender Series, getting a contract; winning The Ultimate Fighter, getting a contract – but I still want more,' Holobaugh said. 'I think that, for me right now, is that I want to have a ranking next to my name. I think that it's possible. 'I think that I can go out and with a win over Alex – maybe a fight or two, it always depends on the way fights a fall-out – all it's going to take is one win over a top-15 guy to fall out or need an opponent and me to say, 'Well, I'm willing to take that fight.' Very similar to Alex when he stepped in to fight (Beneil) Dariush. He stepped in and fought a ranked guy and beat him, and got a ranking. I think that's possible for me as well.'
