Search continues for missing canoeist in Connecticut River

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – The search for a missing canoeist in the Connecticut River resumed over the weekend, and crews will be out searching the waters again on Monday. Drought ends in western Massachusetts with May's above-average rainfall Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan told 22News that the search began at 8:00 p.m. last Monday, when a couple was canoeing in the river and flipped over. Chief Keenan said a Good Samaritan who was fishing saw the couple struggling in the water and went to help. He was able to save a woman, and she was taken to Holyoke Medical Center and has since been released. Niklas Delisle, 27, is still missing. A family member said that he is 5'6″, weighs about 150 pounds, and was last wearing a brown Carhartt sweatshirt and white sweatpants. Delisle's family is asking the public to help find him. Crews spent days searching the river last week, but had to pause their efforts on Thursday and Friday due to the weather. The Hampden County Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol Unit is assisting with the search. If you have any information, contact the Holyoke Police Department at 413-536-6431. This is a developing story, and 22News will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
