5 Reliable Cars That Will Have Massive Price Drops in Summer 2025
The impact of Trump's tariffs on car prices may have you thinking twice about buying a vehicle this summer. However, it's still quite possible to find good deals — and perhaps snag a reliable vehicle with a big price drop this summer. Consider These: Learn More: Here are some factors to consider as we head into the summer car buying season. 'We're entering a rare window where some of the most reliable cars on the road are also the most negotiable,' said Zach Shefska, CEO and co-founder of CarEdge. 'Models like the Nissan Altima and Subaru Legacy are being phased out, while others like the Honda Passport and Toyota RAV4 are making way for redesigned versions. That's a recipe for aggressive summer discounts.' For discerning buyers, especially those who prioritize long-term value and dependability, June and July could offer serious opportunities. Shefska said that's especially true, as dealers start clearing out inventory ahead of 2026 releases. Keep in mind that it never hurts to shop around — both at dealers and online — and negotiate for even better prices. I'm a Car Expert: Shefska shared with GOBankingRates a list of five reliable cars that'll have massive price drops this summer, along with reasons why these particular vehicles will be discounted. MSRP: $28,140-$35,970 Why it'll be discounted: Discontinued model, slow sales, high inventory MSRP: $27,980-$41,280 Why it'll be discounted: End of production, final model year clearance MSRP: $43,850-$49,920 Why it'll be discounted: Full redesign, 2026 model already available MSRP: $30,645-$40,350 Why it'll be discounted: Incoming redesign, highly competitive segment MSRP: $53,975-$71,875 Why it'll be discounted: Incoming model year, slow sales Note: Pricing information was pulled from Car and Driver. Auto tariffs take effect, putting pressure on new car prices
That provision will reduce the impact on vehicles including the Chevrolet Equinox electric vehicle, which is assembled in Mexico but includes a battery pack and other components made in the United States. General Motors will pay a tariff only on the portion of the car made abroad. Get Starting Point A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter Email Sign Up At the same time, the duty on parts will raise the cost of cars made in Michigan, Tennessee, Ohio or other states. That is because most cars rolling out of U.S. factories contain components made abroad, often amounting to more than half the cost of the vehicle. Advertisement About 90% of the value of some Mercedes-Benz cars made in Alabama, for example, is in engines and transmissions that are imported from Europe, according to data compiled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The impact of the tariffs on individual vehicles will vary widely. Cars including the Tesla Model Y, made in Texas and California, or Honda Passport, made in Alabama, have high percentages of U.S.-made parts and will pay lower tariffs. Advertisement Tariffs will be highest on cars manufactured abroad, such as the Toyota Prius made in Japan or Porsche sports cars made in Germany. Even people who don't buy new cars will be hit by the tariffs because they will pay more for parts like tires, brake pads and oil filters. Michael Holmes, co-CEO of Virginia Tire and Auto, a chain of auto repair and maintenance shops, said he and his suppliers would initially try to absorb most of the increased cost. 'That's not sustainable,' Holmes said. 'It's magical thinking to think businesses won't pass this on.' The auto tariffs could also push up prices for used cars over time, analysts said, by increasing demand for those vehicles as new ones become unaffordable for many buyers. Insurance premiums may also rise because repairs will cost more. This article originally appeared in

View Exterior Photos of the 2026 Honda Passport TrailSport
Read the full review The new fourth-generation Honda Passport arrives with a more rugged design and a host of desirable features. The TrailSport trims are enhanced with all-terrain tires, steel skid plates, and other unique hardware. Every Passport is bigger and boxier than before, but only the TrailSport has amber daytime running lights and orange front tow hooks. The Passport's all-wheel-drive system can route up to 70 percent of the engine's torque to the rear axle, with up to 100 percent of that torque directed to the rear wheel with traction. The TrailSport's exclusive equipment includes all-terrain tires and 18-inch wheels with a sunken valve stem and recessed rim to help protect it from damage. The Passport has a 285-hp 3.5-liter V-6 that pairs with a new 10-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. The engine sounds better than a turbo four, and the automatic provided unobtrusive shifts. Thanks to its specially tuned suspension, the TrailSport feels nimble when crawling over off-road obstacles yet remains steady and easy to control on paved roads. The EPA estimates the entry-level Passport RTL at 21 mpg combined, but the TrailSport trims are heavier and have all-terrain tires that drop their combined fuel economy to 20 mpg. Along with roof rails and a bevy of driver assists, the Passport features a matte black section on its rear roof that prevents scratches when objects are leaned up against it. The 2026 Honda Passport lineup is currently on sale, with the entry-level RTL model starting at $46,200 and the top-of-the-line TrailSport Elite starting at $53,900. Read the full review For its fourth generation, the Honda Passport is bigger than before, including more interior and cargo space along with a redesigned cabin. The Passport's interior isn't exactly stylish, but it prioritizes practicality with its numerous storage compartments and physical buttons and knobs. The regular TrailSport model offers an attractive fabric trim on its dash and doors that extends to the seats, which have a synthetic leather material that's easy to clean. The fully loaded TrailSport Elite brings even better standard features, from leather upholstery and ventilated front seats to a 12-speaker Bose sound system. Every Passport comes standard with a customizable digital gauge cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen with Google built-in software, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Thanks to a wheelbase that's been stretched from 110.9 to 113.6 inches, the Passport has more interior space, with second-row riders getting an extra 1.3 inches of legroom. The cargo area now offers up to 84 cubic feet of space with the back row stowed; with the rears seats up, there's 44 cubes (three more than before). The entire 2026 Honda Passport lineup is now on sale. While the top-of-the-line TrailSport Elite starts at $53,900, the least expensive RTL trim starts at $46,200.
