Yellowstone's Kevin Costner lines up next movie role after box office disaster
Kevin Costner is set to star alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in an upcoming dramedy after his recent box office flop Yellowstone legend Kevin Costner has landed a role in a forthcoming comedy-drama, marking one of his initial film appearances since the opening chapter of his ambitious four-part Western saga Horizon bombed at cinemas. This comes after his exit from his starring role as John Dutton in the popular Paramount Network series by Taylor Sheridan midway through its fifth season. After quitting the show to concentrate on his personal passion project, the Hollywood heavyweight has now secured a part in the comedy-drama Honeymoon With Harry for Amazon MGM Studios. Costner will appear alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in the movie adapted from Bart Baker's novel and penned by Dan Fogelman, renowned for his successful NBC series This Is Us. Glenn Ficarra and John Requa are set to helm the project, following their previous collaboration with Fogelman on the beloved romantic comedy Crazy Stupid Love, plus This Is Us and Paradise, reports the Mirror. The directing duo have previously taken charge of films including I Love You Phillip Morris, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot and Focus. According to a synopsis from Deadline: "The film follows a man (Gyllenhaal) as he decides to go on a honeymoon with his would-be father-in-law (Costner) after his fiancée dies two days before their wedding." Honeymoon With Harry represents just one of a handful of screen projects Costner has secured whilst awaiting the provisional releases of the second and third instalments of his Horizon epic. Chapter 2 was shown at the Venice and Santa Barbara film festivals but remains without a widespread release following the commercial disappointment of the inaugural chapter. The next instalment is currently under production, with the fourth and concluding chapter in its early stages of development. Apart from his starring and directing role in his ambitious Civil War epic, he revisited the same period of American history for the period spy thriller The Gray House, which he assisted in producing through his company, Territory Pictures. He's also lined up to feature in the forthcoming surfer thriller Headhunters, alongside Chloe East and Daniel Zovatto, a film which Costner co-penned with director Steven Holleran. Lastly, he's scheduled to appear in an as-yet-untitled film from filmmaker Ariel Vromen, with whom he previously worked on the 2016 thriller Criminal, also featuring Gary Oldman and Ryan Reynolds. In the meantime, Costner's co-star Gyllenhaal was most recently seen in the Apple TV+ thriller Presumed Innocent and Prime Video's remake of Road House, both of which were released last year.

Kevin Costner and Jake Gyllenhaal cast in Honeymoon With Harry
Kevin Costner and Jake Gyllenhaal have signed up for Honeymoon With Harry. The Dances With Wolves legend, 70, and the 44-year-old actor are on board for the upcoming dramedy, which has been pitched in the movie industry since 2004. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the long awaited film will have Costner and Gyllenhaal leading the way with Glenn Ficarra and John Requa directing. The duo will be at the helm for the film with a script by Dan Fogelman, who they worked with on Crazy, Stupid, Love and Hulu series Paradise. The movie - which will be released by Amazon MGM - is based on Bart Baker's 2012 novel of the same name, which was unreleased when talks around the project first started 21 years ago. In the story, a man (Gyllenhaal) takes his would-be father-in-law (Costner) on a honeymoon after the death of his fiancee two days before their wedding. In 2004, Gulfstream Pictures' Mike Garz first started work on the film with New Line Cinema, with some big names attached. Crash director Paul Haggis penned a draft of the script, which he intended to direct with Vince Vaughn and Jack Nicholson in line for the leading roles. At another stage, Jonathan Demme was tempted after Jenny Lumet - who co-created Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and wrote Rachel Getting Married - wrote her own version of the script. Fogelman has actually been on board since 2015, although at that point New Line was planning to have Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro in the two main roles. Two years later, Nick Cassavetes - known for his work on the likes of The Notebook and My Sister's Keeper - was atttached to helm the movie. The rights would eventually lapse with no start, but Karz remained committed and kept Fogelman's script as he looked for a new home. The producer and his own Gulfstream Pictures recently worked with Amazon MGM on One Fast Move and romantic comedy Upgraded. Meanwhile, Gyllenhaal impressed bosses at the streamer with his starring role in Road House, which became one of Amazon Prime Video's biggest hits to date, with work on a sequel due to get underway later this year. Most recently, Costner has been working on his Horizon: An American Saga passion project, with two of the planned four parts made and just one released to date.

Kevin Costner's surprising career U-turn after Yellowstone bitter exit and $100M Horizon flop
Kevin Costner has made a surprising career move following his bitter departure from the hit TV show Yellowstone after five seasons and box office flop, Horizon. On Monday, Amazon MGM Studios announced the two-time Oscar winner, 70, signed on to star in their upcoming dramedy, Honeymoon with Harry, alongside Jake Gyllenhaal. The film centers on a man (Gyllenhaal) who, just days before his wedding, loses his fiancée. In the wake of her sudden death, he chooses to embark on the planned honeymoon trip with his would-be father-in-law (Kostner). Glenn Ficarra and John Requa are set to direct the movie, based on Bart Baker's 2016 book Honeymoon with Harry. This marks Costner's first project since Horizon's lackluster box office performance. After a tough opening weekend upon its release on June 28, 2024, the father-of-seven insisted he was 'really happy' that Horizon 'like what it's supposed to look like' on the big screen. 'That's really important to me in this process,' he told Entertainment Weekly. 'Would I love that it would be highly, highly successful? 'Of course, I'd like that. My ego would like that; everyone would like that. But I am happiest that the movie that you and I are talking about looks the way I want it to look.' In June, the Yellowstone alum announced that he has no intention of slowing down anytime soon. 'I don't even think about retiring, because I'll just move to the next thing that captures my imagination,' he told People. Costner further explained that his own imagination 'is what determines what I do, not a boss.' The Dances with Wolves added, 'I've felt really lucky in my life. I'd like to think that I worked for all of it, but not everybody can live by the same blueprint.' In regards to having a 'bucket list' of what he still wants to do with his career, the actor stated, 'I don't have those things. 'I have that list, [but] I don't refer to it that way. But certainly my eyes and my enthusiasms are wide open and very big.' Costner added that he has 'enjoyed life and imagining what I can do, what can I be about and what makes a difference. Not only to me, but to other people. What just satisfies me? 'I go through that whole idea, and you realize it's about time. It's a rush to get to all of them.' The actor has previously touched on his future in the industry, including during a conversation with AARP in 2019. When questioned if he 'ever thinks' about retiring, the Hollywood star replied, 'I really feel like some of the great surprises I have are in front of me. 'As I play out the second half of my career, I've been doing a lot of writing, and there are projects I still want to do.' He further expressed that his 'life is a lot more than movies. I just periodically pop up in them. In between, I'm living my other life.' Costner began his career when he took on a role in the 1981 movie Sizzle Beach, U.S.A. - also known as Malibu Hot Summer. He went on to make appearances in other films such as Fandango (1985) and The Untouchables (1987). Kevin worked alongside other stars such as Robert De Niro, Andy Garcia and Sean Connery in the crime film - which garnered four Oscar nominations. In 1990, Costner both starred in and directed the Western epic Dances With Wolves - which won him Best Picture and Best Director the following year at the Academy Awards. Other movies the actor is known for is Field Of Dreams (1989), The Bodyguard (1992), Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves (1991), Wyatt Earp (1994), Open Range (2003) and Man Of Steel (2013). While Kevin has spent many years on the big screen, he has also taken on roles in television projects - such as the 2012 miniseries Hatfields & McCoys which earned him an Emmy win. He notably portrayed the character of rancher John Dutton in Taylor Sheridan's neo-Western drama series Yellowstone. In 2024, Costner starred in, wrote and directed Horizon: An American Saga - which is set to be followed by three additional movies. The second part premiered earlier this year at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in February. It was also screened during the 81st Venice Film Festival last year in September. Chapter 2 was set to hit theaters also last year - however due to low box office numbers, a new release date has yet to be confirmed.
