Maryam, minister discuss bullet train, uplift projects
LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif met Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi in which matters pertaining to current political situation, national security, development projects and modern transport infrastructure in Punjab were discussed. Comprehensive discussions were also held on launching Punjab's first bullet train and high-speed train projects. Both the leaders paid glowing tributes to the valiant Pakistan Armed Forces for achieving a glorious success in the operation 'Bunyan Marsus'. Federal Minister Hanif Abbasi appreciated the successful launching of CM Laptop and Honhaar Scholarship phase-II project. The Chief Minister said, 'Operation 'Bunyan Marsus' gives ample proof of displaying complete unity by the nation including the political and military leadership in safeguarding our national security as well as sovereignty.' The CM outlined, 'The brave soldiers of the Pakistan Army have always sacrificed their precious lives so as to protect our dear homeland. Today's Pakistan is in strong hands and the entire nation stands shoulder to shoulder with its armed forces and institutions. The solution to the enormous challenges being faced by the country lies in political stability, national unity and continuity of progress.' The CM highlighted, 'Time has come to provide world-class travel facilities to the people of Punjab. The bullet train and modern railway network will create new opportunities for economic activities; generate employment along with providing travel convenience to the citizens.' Federal Minister Hanif Abbasi acknowledged that under the leadership of CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab is once again treading on the path of progress and prosperity. Result delay panics scholarship hopefuls
Thousands of students of public sector universities and colleges may be deprived of benefitting from the Honhaar Scholarships of Punjab government because of a delay in the issuance of their results. The result card is compulsory to apply for the scholarship scheme by the last date of February 28. According to sources, most of the students whose results have not been declared so far by the universities are of the third to eighth semesters. The Punjab Higher Education Department has issued a letter to the administrations of the public sector universities, urging them to immediately resolve the issue of the students so that they can apply for the scholarships. The sources said thousands of university and college students facing delay in the announcement of their results despite wishing to apply for the Honhaar Scholarships of the Punjab government. The government had launched the scholarship scheme to provide financial support to deserving and talented students of the province. The submission of applications for the Honhaar Scholarships is under way with February 28 set as the deadline. "We are three sisters studying in universities, while our parents are poor and are struggling hard to pay our fees. I am doing a job to continue my studies so that I can get a degree. The Honhaar Scholarship Scheme has given us hope but our results have not been announced, causing disappointment and worry as the deadline is approaches and the university administrations are not addressing our plight," said a student of a university, Samra Batool, while speaking to The Express Tribune. She said her class fellows had also been unable to apply for the scholarships because of the delay in the announcement of results. She alleged that the relevant officials were oblivious if the anxiety of the students as the deadline for the submitting the applications neared. Officials of the Punjab Higher Education Department also expressed concern over the delay in the results announcements. The department has written a letter to the public sector universities, urging them to immediately announce the results of the students. A senior official of Punjab Higher Education Department said the attention of the vice chancellors had been drawn towards the issue of delay in the announcement of various semesters' results affecting the students intending to apply for the Honhaar Scholarship. The official said submission of the current result along with the previous academic performance was compulsory to apply for scholarships, The delay in the issuance of the results is causing hurdles for the students in applying. All VCs were advised to facilitate the students applying for the scholarships by announcing the results at the earliest. The college administrations had also been requested through the letter to immediately announce the results in the best interest of the students, the official added. An official of Government College University Lahore also said many students would not be eligible to apply for the scholarships due to the delay.

Govt responsible for talented students' fees: CM
LAHORE: A help desk has been established for guiding students and addressing their complaints related to the Honhaar Scholarship scheme. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said regarding the facility launched on her instruction, "Talented students should only focus on studying, paying their fees is the responsibility of the government. I want to put all the resources at the disposal of students." According to an announcement, students may contact the helpline on WhatsApp, landline and social media. The Honhaar Scholarship Desk will guide the students from 9am to 5pm daily for information and resolution of complaints. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mariam Nawaz expressed deep grief over the death of nine labourers due to an explosion near a coal mine in Quetta. She expressed sympathy with the bereaved families and prayed for early recovery of the injured.

Punjab CM promises jobs for encroachment removal affectees
Listen to article Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has made a significant decision to rehabilitate the unemployed individuals affected by the anti-encroachment drive. The Chief Minister has directed the relevant authorities to take measures for the restoration of small businesses, such as street vendors, that were affected by the encroachment removal campaign. Maryam Nawaz stated that while the removal of encroachments is crucial for easing traffic, the government will not allow ordinary people to become unemployed. "We do not want to take away someone's livelihood, which is why it is essential to make alternative arrangements for those who have lost their jobs." She also mentioned that alternative spaces will be provided to the affected individuals in every city. "We are reviewing arrangements for those whose livelihoods have been impacted by the anti-encroachment campaign. The removal of encroachments is inevitable to ensure smooth traffic flow," she added. The Chief Minister emphasized that due to chaotic encroachments, passing through markets had become difficult, and that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had instructed immediate measures for those affected by the encroachments. Earlier, Maryam Nawaz approved expansion of the Honhaar Scholarship Scheme for students from other provinces. The same eligibility criteria has been set for the students belonging to other provinces like that in Punjab. Other provinces offered scholarships

The same eligibility criteria has been set for the students belonging to other provinces like that in Punjab. Presiding over a meeting on higher education, then chief minister also increased the number of laptops for students in Punjab up to 110,000. She approved the inclusion of the students of the second, third and fourth semesters in Punjab in the Honhaar Scholarship Scheme. The chief minister directed then authorities concerned to establish a special helpline for students regarding the scholarship and laptop schemes. It was decided to set the eligibility criterion for obtaining laptops as 65 per cent marks. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said while addressing the meeting, "The Honhaar Scholarship and laptop schemes are the right of every child and responsibility of the government. Education and youth development are the real investments for the uplift of a nation and I want to see every child getting a laptop." She said, "Laptops and Honhaar scholarships are the right of students from other provinces as well." The chief minister added, "Students from other provinces, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are also our children. Every child who comes on merit should apply to obtain education in a quality institution. The government will pay his fee. I think like a mother, I want to change the fate of every child." She said, "The standard set for obtaining Honhaar scholarships in Punjab will remain the same for students from other provinces." She said provision of funds in all schemes for the well-being of students would be ensured. The participants of the meeting also approved plans to organise a conference of vice chancellors and a 'Tech Expo' in Punjab. Separately, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced that biker lanes would be marked on all roads of Lahore in a phased manner. "A pilot project to allocate separate lanes for cyclists and motorcyclists on the roads of Lahore, following the model of China's capital Beijing, has been launched," she said. In ten first phase, a 10-kilometre-long biker lane in green and other colours is being developed from Ferozepur Road to Lahore Bridge. The chief minister said, "The modern global concept of biker lanes will reduce accidents and bring about smooth traffic flow." She appealed to the citizens to make the pilot project a success with their cooperation and discipline, so that lives could be protected and accidents avoided.
