Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has made a significant decision to rehabilitate the unemployed individuals affected by the anti-encroachment drive.
The Chief Minister has directed the relevant authorities to take measures for the restoration of small businesses, such as street vendors, that were affected by the encroachment removal campaign.
Maryam Nawaz stated that while the removal of encroachments is crucial for easing traffic, the government will not allow ordinary people to become unemployed. "We do not want to take away someone's livelihood, which is why it is essential to make alternative arrangements for those who have lost their jobs."
She also mentioned that alternative spaces will be provided to the affected individuals in every city. "We are reviewing arrangements for those whose livelihoods have been impacted by the anti-encroachment campaign. The removal of encroachments is inevitable to ensure smooth traffic flow," she added.
The Chief Minister emphasized that due to chaotic encroachments, passing through markets had become difficult, and that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had instructed immediate measures for those affected by the encroachments.
Earlier, Maryam Nawaz
approved
expansion of the Honhaar Scholarship Scheme for students from other provinces.
The same eligibility criteria has been set for the students belonging to other provinces like that in Punjab.
Presiding over a meeting on higher education, then chief minister also increased the number of laptops for students in Punjab up to 110,000. She approved the inclusion of the students of the second, third and fourth semesters in Punjab in the Honhaar Scholarship Scheme.
The chief minister directed then authorities concerned to establish a special helpline for students regarding the scholarship and laptop schemes.
It was decided to set the eligibility criterion for obtaining laptops as 65 per cent marks.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said while addressing the meeting, "The Honhaar Scholarship and laptop schemes are the right of every child and responsibility of the government.

LAHORE: On the special invitation of Japanese government, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Friday left here for Tokyo on a five-day official visit. Senior officials of the Punjab government bid farewell to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Minister for Information and Heritage Azma Zahid Bokhari, Minister C&W Malik Zohaib Bherth, Minister LG Zeeshan Rafiq, Advisor to CM Sania Ashiq, and other officials accompanied the chief minister. It may be added that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is the first chief minister who is invited to visit Japan officially. During her stay in Japan, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz will attend the World Expo in Osaka. She will visit the cities of Yokohama, Osaka, and Tokyo, where she is scheduled to hold high-level meetings with Japanese business leaders, representatives of major corporations, and government officials. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif arrived in Thailand en route to Japan for a five-day official visit on Friday. The Japanese government has invited the chief minister to participate in the World Expo to be organised in Osaka. Provincial Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, ministers Azma Zahid Bokhari, Malik Sohaib Bherth, Zeeshan Rafique, Special Assistant Sania Ashiq and senior government officers are in the delegation. The chief minister will also visit Tokyo and Yokohama. She will meet senior officials of the Japanese government and visit various institutions of the country. Pakistan's Ambassador to Thailand Rukhsana Afzal and other officials welcomed the delegation at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok on the first leg of the foreign visit. Senior officials of the Thailand government were also present at the airport. Earlier, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz presided over a meeting in Lahore to review progress on clean water, filtration and other development projects. She was given a detailed briefing about the Model Village project. She reviewed progress on the Lahore and Punjab development projects. The chief minister reviewed a proposal to install water filtration plants in remote areas. She set the deadline of June 30 June next year for installing the plants. She emphasised early completion of the construction and repair of streets under the Lahore Development Project. She expressed her indignation over delay in the completion of some projects. She also ordered timely completion of 122 beautification projects for every city of Punjab. Of the projects, 51 will be completed in Lahore division, 64 in Rawalpindi, 37 in Faisalabad, 75 in Multan. 45 in Sargodha, 64 in Gujranwala, 51 in Dera Ghazi Khan, 61 in Bahawalpur, 53 in Gujrat and 49 in Sahiwal. She underscored that public complaints regarding unavailability of drinking water would be redressed on a priority basis. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives due to a cloudburst and other tragic incidents in Gilgit-Baltistan, Buner and other northern areas. She expressed her profound grief over the deaths of children and women in the incidents and conveyed her sympathies and condolence to the bereaved families.
