Oahu's 30th traffic fatality: Woman killed in Nimitz crash
HONOLULU (KHON2) — The woman who was hit by two cars on Nimitz Highway on Tuesday, May 20, has died. 36-year-old man in critical condition following Waianae crash According to the Honolulu Police Department, the crash happened just after 9 p.m. on North Nimitz Highway in the Airport area. Officials said the 29-year-old woman was walking outside of a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a 52-year-old female driver who was heading westbound. She was lying on the roadway when she was hit again. This time, by a 57-year-old male driver. On May 22, HPD announced that the woman involved in the crash succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. Honolulu EMS honors newly promoted personnel
HONOLULU (KHON2) — The celebrations are in full swing for this year's National Emergency Medical Services Week. The Honolulu Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Division recently honored the promotions of eight paramedics and two office personnel during a ceremony held at the Mission Memorial Auditorium. Honolulu mayor declares Emergency Medical Services week The honorees included: EMS District Chiefs Jason Moses and Shara Molina EMS Supervisors Lee Lenchanko, Julia Seto, Jeff Jacobson, Mitch Kam and Mike Park Administrative Staff Alisa Vincent (Personnel Clerk) and Jessica Bornoff (Supervising Office Assistant) These men and women have earned their promotions to Paramedic Supervisors, District Chiefsand office supervisors. EMS is a very difficult career, and in order to move up, you have to have a lot of grit and determination. I commend all of our personnel who were promoted today and thank them for their commitment to our island's sick and injured. Since my battle with COVID-19, I've had time to reflect on everyone who played a role in mysurvival and recovery. They initiated the chain of survival, and being part of this promotional ceremony during EMS Week brings the entire journey full circle. Honolulu EMS was able to administer life-saving measures, which kept him alive during the transport to the hospital. 59-year-old Honolulu man drowns off Kailua Beach
HONOLULU (KHON2) — Multiple agencies responded to a drowning in the waters off Kailua Beach. Honolulu's new Ocean Safety Department plans to bring major upgrades to lifeguard services The incident happened around 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20, at 'Flag Poles,' the shoreline between Kalama Beach Park and Kailua Beach Park. According to Honolulu Ocean Safety, witnesses said they saw the man swimming in waist-deep waters when they noticed he was in trouble. Officials said Good Samaritans pulled the man out of the water and yelled for from a tower nearly half a mile away responded to the incident. A lieutenant also responded by vehicle. Upon arrival, lifeguards performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) until Honolulu Emergency Medical Services arrived and took over with treatment. Bicyclist hospitalized in McCully; police search for suspects
HONOLULU (KHON2) — A bicyclist has been hospitalized in serious condition following an apparent hit-and-run incident in McCully. Police searching for suspects in armed home invasion in Nuuanu According to Honolulu police, the incident happened around noon on Thursday, May 15, near the intersection of McCully Street and Citron Street. Officials said a stolen vehicle incident led to the crash with the 62-year-old male bicyclist. Honolulu Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and treated the man who suffered multiple injuries to his head and lower body. After the crash, HPD said the suspects fled the scene and abandoned the vehicle. The incident caused a full closure of McCully Street, between Waiola and Date, as well as the full closure of Citron Street, between Wiliwili and Paani. The roads have been reopened. 76-year-old man dies while hiking Makapuʻu Trail
HONOLULU (KHON2) — A man is dead after attempting to hike Makapuʻu Lighthouse Trail. Firefighters locate missing hiker off Lulumahu Falls Trail The Honolulu Fire Department and Honolulu Emergency Medical Services responded to the incident just before 11 a.m. on Thursday. The 76-year-old man ventured off the trail and was later reported missing. HFD said they initiated CPR and applied a mechanical chest compression device for the airlift operation. Around 1 p.m., the hiker was airlifted to a landing zone where paramedics took over.
