2025-26 school budget & board results in the Southern Tier
SOUTHERN TIER, N.Y. (WETM) — On Tuesday, May 20, people in the Southern Tier, along with others living in New York State, voted on their local school districts' budget, and selected board members, for the 2025-2026 school year, and most of the results are in. So far, residents approved the proposed school budgets for all but two districts in Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, and Tioga counties. Five districts throughout the Southern Tier including, Horseheads, Bradford, Corning, Prattsburgh, and Waverly needed super majorities (more than 60% of votes) to pass their budgets. Prattsburgh and Horseheads did not have enough Yes votes for the proposed budget to pass, making those the only two districts out of the 18 districts in the area that we have results for, not to pass its budget. Horseheads School Board candidate arrested after disturbance in Southport
SOUTHPORT, N.Y. (WETM) – A Horseheads woman has been arrested on various charges after an incident that occurred on Sunday in the Town of Southport. Nicole D. Tirgari-White, 36, was arrested on Sunday, May 18, on the charges of harassment in the second degree and endangering the welfare of a child, as stated in a release from the Chemung County Sheriff's Office. Ithaca woman sentenced more than 10 years in prison for assault of Investigator Theetge Officials say Tirgari-White was arrested on the charges following a disturbance in Southport. Tirgari-White is currently a candidate for a seat on the Horseheads School Board, which will be voted upon on Tuesday, May 20. Police look for woman who allegedly cashed stolen check in Mansfield
MANSFIELD, Pa. (WETM) — Police are looking for a woman who they say cashed a check that had been stolen from Corning at a credit union in Mansfield last month. The Pennslyvania State Police reported that an older female driving a gray Ford Edge cashed a check for $2,000 at the First Heritage on South Main Street at around 1:35 p.m. on Jan. 15. Police say the check was stolen from a 71-year-old Horseheads woman in Corning, and the investigation into the alleged fraud began on Feb. 6. Pictures of the woman who police say cashed the stolen check and the vehicle she was driving at the time of the reported incident can be seen below: Anyone who knows who this woman is or who has information that could lead to her identification should call the Pennsylvania State Police Mansfield station at 570-662-2151.
