House of David Season Season 2: Release date rumors, cast updates and what to expect next

By Aman Shukla Published on July 14, 2025, 18:00 IST Last updated July 14, 2025, 18:25 IST Man, House of David on Prime Video hit like a lightning bolt, didn't it? That first season, with David taking down Goliath and all the palace drama, had me glued to the screen. After pulling in 22 million viewers in just over two weeks, it's no shock that Amazon greenlit Season 2. So, what's the latest on when it's coming, who's returning, and what's next for our favorite shepherd-turned-hero? Let's dive in. When Can We Expect House of David Season 2? No official word on the release date yet, but there's some juicy buzz floating around. Jon Erwin, the showrunner, posted on Instagram about filming starting in Greece around Easter 2025. They're building some epic sets—think sprawling biblical fortresses. Season 1 went from cameras rolling to streaming in under a year, so we are betting we could see Season 2 by spring 2026, maybe April or May. Who's Coming Back in House of David Season 2? The cast is what makes House of David pop, and thankfully, most of the big names are set to return. Michael Iskander is back as David, and let me tell you, his performance gives me chills every time—equal parts heart and grit. Here's who else we're likely seeing: Ali Suliman as King Saul as King Saul Ayelet Zurer as Queen Ahinoam as Queen Ahinoam Stephen Lang as Samuel as Samuel Indy Lewis as Michal as Michal Ethan Kai as Jonathan as Jonathan Oded Fehr as Abner The Season 1 finale threw a curveball with Sam Otto's Eshbaal snagging the throne, so expect him to stir up trouble. Sadly, no Martyn Ford as Goliath (RIP, big guy). No word on new faces yet, but we are crossing our fingers for some fresh characters to shake things up. What's the Story Going to Be in House of David Season 2? Season 2 picks up after that insane Goliath fight. David's a hero now, but the crown's still a long way off. The finale left us with Eshbaal's sneaky power grab, so we are expecting a full-on rivalry with David. Plus, Saul's paranoia is bound to crank the drama to 11. Will David and Michal's romance bloom amidst the chaos? And how's Jonathan going to handle his family turning on his best friend? Jon Erwin's hinted at a multi-season arc, maybe even six seasons, tracing David's rise from fugitive to king. We are stoked for more battles, betrayals, and those quiet moments where David's faith shines through. Ahmedabad Plane Crash Aman Shukla is a post-graduate in mass communication . That means, in addition to your Prime Video subscription, you'll have to pay for Wonder Project, which will cost $8.99/month at launch. More from TVLine TVLine's Performer of the Week: Jonathan Roumie House of David Renewed for Season 2 at Amazon Casting News: Chicago Fire Adds On Call's Brandon Larracuente, Shane Gillis to Host ESPYS and More The subscription-within-a-subscription promises 'over 1,000 hours of highly curated movies and TV series that reflect the company's mission: to entertain the world with courageous stories, inspiring hope and restoring faith in things worth believing in' — but if you don't want all of that, don't worry: exclusivity will eventually lapse, and House of David Season 2 will be available to all Prime Video subscribers at a later date. House of David 'tells the story of the ascent of the biblical figure, David (played by Michael Iskander), who eventually becomes the most renowned and celebrated king of Israel,' according the official logline. 'The series follows the once-mighty King Saul as he falls victim to his own pride. At the direction of God, the prophet Samuel anoints an unlikely, outcast teenager as the new king. As Saul loses his power over his kingdom, David finds himself on a journey to discover and fulfill his destiny, navigating love, loss, and violence in the court of the very man he's destined to replace. As one leader falls, another must rise.' Season 2, meanwhile, 'will follow the aftermath of the battle between David and Goliath and David's rise to the throne. As he navigates palace politics, his family's jealousy, and a growing romance, David steps deeper into his destiny and learns what it means to become a great leader.' House of David was renewed for a second season on March 18, two weeks out from the biblical epic's Season 1 finale, which dropped on Thursday, April 3. The Feb. 27 premiere had reportedly garnered 22 million viewers in its first 17 days of release (though Amazon has not defined how it measures a 'viewer'). 'Jon Erwin and Jon Gunn's compelling creative vision has solidified our belief in the series and we are excited to deliver more of the story to our customers,' Amazon MGM Studios head of television Vernon Sanders said in a statement at the time. 'We look forward to a continued journey with Wonder Project as we further expand our slate to encompass faith-based series.' Added Erwin and Gunn: 'We are humbled by the extraordinary reaction this show has earned from the faith audience worldwide. Thanks to them and our partners at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, Wonder Project will bring more of the Bible and this epic saga to a global audience. Congratulations to our incredible cast and crew.' Will you pay more to binge-watch Season 2 this fall? Or will you be holding out for its eventual wide release? Drop your thoughts in a comment below. It's official: 'House of David' season 2 will cost an extra fee on top of Prime Video

Prime Video's hit biblical series "House of David" returns for season 2 this fall, but watching it will set you back an additional $9 a month on top of your existing Amazon Prime subscription. That's because Jon Erwin, the show's creator and director of 'I Can Only Imagine," is launching a new subscription streaming channel on Prime Video called the Wonder Project, set to debut this fall. It's priced at $8.99/month and will be the exclusive home of "House of David" season 2, a co-production between Wonder Project and Amazon MGM Studios. To be clear, that $8.99 per month is an added fee on top of your monthly bill for an Amazon Prime membership. A kind of subscription-within-a-subscription, Russian nesting doll situation, if you will. After premiering on Wonder Project, "House of David" season 2 will eventually become available to watch for regular Prime Video subscribers in the U.S. and globally at an undisclosed later date. "House of David" racked up over 40 million viewers worldwide when it premiered in February. Amazon confirmed it renewed "House of David" for a second season in March, which will follow the aftermath of David's battle with Goliath and his rise to the throne. At launch, Wonder Project promises 'over 1,000 hours of highly curated movies and TV series that reflect the company's mission: to entertain the world with courageous stories, inspiring hope and restoring faith in things worth believing in," the company said in a press release. Moving forward, Erwin plans to release other originals through the service as well. Subscribers will get early access to new original films and series produced by Wonder Project. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. 'We are blown away by the success of House of David and can't wait for audiences to be swept away into the epic action and drama of season 2,' said Erwin in a press release. 'Our audience is underserved and craves a destination they can trust with exceptional originals and curated movies and TV shows. With the new Wonder Project subscription on Prime Video, we will be delivering all of that and more." It's clear that giving Wonder Project subscribers early access to one of Prime Video's biggest shows of the year is the service's biggest selling point. Whether subscribers believe that's enough to justify the added cost is another story. Especially when they know that they can hold out for its eventual wider release on Prime Video. As far as subscribers are concerned, keeping select shows behind an additional paywall is likely to be seen as frustrating at best and a cash grab at worst. Granted, Prime Video already offers plenty of channels you can subscribe to for an additional fee. But this is the first time that a program originally offered through Prime Video has moved to another paid service between seasons — and something tells me the move is not going to go over well when streaming services everywhere are seeing price hikes.

Review of Benyamin's The Second Book of Prophets

Fearless Malayalam novelist Benyamin's The Second Book of Prophets is unsurprising for its theme and bold storytelling. After reading interpretations of the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Nag Hammadi texts (both significant finds of the mid-20th century that offer insights into Judaism and Christian history), Benyamin was inspired to write this book that looks at the historical and spiritual figure of Jesus Christ through a new lens. The author has explored Christian themes in his earlier works (Body and Blood, Yellow Lights of Death) and earned plaudits for other powerful stories as well (Goat Days, Jasmine Days). This novel, translated by Ministhy S., is a brave, secularised retelling of the life and times of Jesus Christ, challenging some traditional Christian beliefs in an iconoclastic manner. Conflicts and betrayals Jesus makes his appearance at a crucial time when the Jews are struggling for freedom from centuries of Roman rule over territory that is broadly today's Israel. Many Jews believe Jesus could be their long-awaited 'messiah' who will liberate them, a matter in which Jesus shows no interest. Besides, in Benyamin's retelling, the Tribe of Benjamin is opposed to someone like Jesus (from the rival House of David) coming as 'messiah', as well as his message of peace, love and equality. They conspire with the Romans to betray Jesus. Yet, Jesus continues to lead a different freedom struggle, working with the various warring tribes to reconcile their differences, before sacrificing his life for the cause. Internecine conflicts, treachery, distrust, disunity, betrayals — the leitmotifs of failed revolts throughout history — play out plainly among the Jews who fail to overpower the Romans. Taking cues from history Evidently, the author desires a different understanding of Jesus, not through the eyes of faith but by studying historical texts. In the novel, Jesus appears not as the son of god but as a social reformer and revolutionary, fighting evil and injustice. The much-vaunted miracles performed by Jesus — turning water into wine, the healing of lepers and the resurrection of the dead — are interpreted in the book, not literally as miracles but as Jesus' spurning of prejudiced societal laws and customs of the time, or 'social miracles'. Even Judas' betrayal of Jesus for 30 pieces of silver is attributed to tribal rivalries, not greed as the Bible narrates. Undoubtedly, the Bible as well as the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Nag Hammadi texts allow different readings and perspectives of Jesus' life and that period in history. Clearly, Benyamin, with a passion for history, feels there is much to say about Jesus' life and times outside of the prevailing convictions, and has done so to also make the story relevant to our fractured times. The novel, originally published in Malayalam in 2007, and read widely, drew flak from die-hard believers for Benyamin's secularisation of Jesus' life, upending conventional beliefs. Time will tell how readers of the English translation will respond. The reviewer is a Bengaluru-based independent journalist. The Second Book of Prophets Benyamin, trs Ministhy S.
