U.S. Embassy in Yemen Reveals Houthi Financing Network Through Sanctioned Companies & Intermediaries

Aden — The United States Embassy in Yemen has issued a detailed statement outlining the financial and logistical networks used by the Houthi movement to sustain its military operations, accusing the group of leveraging a web of front companies, trusted intermediaries, and Iranian support to bypass international sanctions. According to the embassy, multiple Yemen-based entities have been actively involved in purchasing weapons components and smuggling petroleum products through Houthi-controlled ports such as Hodeidah, Ras Isa, and Salif. These operations reportedly generate millions of dollars monthly, fueling the group's armed capabilities and expanding its political footprint. Entities Sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury : - Black Diamond Petroleum Derivatives - Yahya Al-Asili Import Ltd. - Royal Plus Maritime and Commercial Agencies - Star Plus Yemen - Yemen Elaf for Petroleum Imports - Tamco Petroleum Products - Zahraa Trading & Agencies - Abbot Trading Ltd. - Gasoline Aman Co. In addition to corporate sanctions, the U.S. has blacklisted two vessels and their owners for unloading petroleum products in violation of licensing restrictions. 'The evidence is clear, and our sanctions are targeted,' the embassy stated, reinforcing Washington's commitment to disrupting financial lifelines that enable the Houthis' military actions. The group was officially designated as a Global Terrorist Organization in March 2025, expanding the scope of punitive measures available under U.S. law.

Along with persuading the family, he is also expected to meet the Attorney General to initiate urgent efforts to postpone the execution scheduled for tomorrow," PTI reported, quoting the statement by Kanthapuram's statement added that the family's agreement to hold talks with the representatives of Umar bin Hafiz is being seen as a "positive signal towards our efforts to halt the scheduled execution for the time being".The PTI report said that Mahdi's murder is an emotional matter not only for the family, but also among the tribes and the residents of the Dhamar region. Kanthapuram's office said this was the reason why no contact could have been established with the victim's family before. "It was only through Kanthapuram's intervention that communication with the family became possible for the first time."Today's discussion is focused on reaching a final decision about the acceptance of the blood money, PTI government on Monday told the Supreme Court that there was "nothing much" they could do to secure the release or stop the execution of Nimisha Priya. SC to hear plea to save Kerala nurse Nimisha Priya today, 2 days before execution planned in Yemen

The Supreme Court is set to take up a plea on Monday seeking the Indian government use diplomatic channels to Nimisha Priya, a nurse from Kerala facing execution in Yemen for alleged murder. The hearing comes just two days before her scheduled execution on Tuesday, July 16. Priya, who hails from Kerala's Palakkad district, is currently lodged in a jail in the country's capital city of Sana'a.(Hindustan Times) Nimisha Priya is facing the execution for the alleged murder of her Yemeni business partner, Talal Abdo Mahdi in 2017. The plea filed in Supreme Court seeks to explore the option of paying 'blood money' to the victim's family in order to save Nimisha Priya from execution. The provision is permissible under Sharia law in Yemen, the plea argues. A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta will likely hear the matter, that was listed for urgent hearing on July 10. Advocate Subhash Chandran KR submitted the plea, which argues that the payment of blood money would influence the victim's family to pardon the Kerala nurse. Nimisha Priya's family has reportedly offered $1 million ( ₹8.6 crore) as 'blood money' to the victim's family in hopes of saving her. Why Nimisha Priya is on death row Nimisha Priya is a 38-year-old nurse from Kerala's Palakkad district. She went to Yemen for work in 2011, but is currently locked up in a prison in the capital city Sana'a. She went to Yemen with her family, but her husband and daughter returned to India three years later in 2014 due to civil unrest in Yemen. Nimisha stayed back to support her family. However, Yemen's law mandates foreign medical practitioners partner up with a Yemeni national if they want to to open a clinic -- enter Talal Abdo Mahdi. Nimisha partnered with Mahdi for her clinic, but he allegedly falsified documents to falsely claim he was married to her, withheld her passport, subjected her to years of physical abuse, financial exploitation, and repeated threats. In 2017, Priya attempted to sedate Mahdi aiming to get hold of her passport so she could leave Yemen, but the dose turned lethal and he died. She also allegedly dismembered his body and dispose it. She was sentenced to death three years later in 2020, an order the Houthis' Supreme Judicial Council upheld in 2023. While Indian officials are engaged in efforts to prevent her execution, doing so is tricky because the prison she is lodged in is controlled by the Houthi administration, with which India has no formal diplomatic ties.

Houthi ship attack releases 17k tons of ammonium nitrate into Red Sea: US Embassy

The United States on Sunday accused Yemen's Houthi group of deliberately sinking the commercial ship MV Rubymar (also known as Magic Seas), resulting in the release of 17,000 metric tons of ammonium nitrate into the Red Sea, an act Washington warns could severely disrupt marine life and trigger mass extinction across the food chain. In a statement posted on X, the US Embassy in Yemen called the Houthis' actions 'reckless,' warning the chemical spill could 'disrupt fish reproduction and cause mass extinction across the marine food chain.' هجمات الحوثيين المتهورة على السفن لا تعكس أي اهتمام بالأسر اليمنية والبيئة. #USAwithYemen — U.S. Embassy Yemen السفارة الأمريكية لدى اليمن (@USEmbassyYemen) July 13, 2025 'The Houthis deliberately sank the ship, ignoring the devastating consequences for Yemeni families, trade, and the fishing industry,' the embassy said. The group has not responded publicly to the allegations. The British Embassy in Yemen also condemned what it called 'unprovoked Houthi attacks' on two Liberian-flagged, Greek-operated cargo vessels, Magic Seas and MV Eternity C. The UK said both ships were sunk, with at least four crew members confirmed dead and others still missing. It called on the Houthis to immediately and unconditionally release all remaining crew of Eternity C. The Houthi group claimed responsibility for targeting and sinking both ships last week, alleging they were headed to 'Israeli' ports. Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi reaffirmed Thursday that his forces would continue blocking maritime traffic to and from 'Israeli' ports in the Red Sea, Arabian Sea, and Gulf of Aden, as long as the war on Gaza persists. The attacks are part of the Houthis' broader campaign to retaliate against 'Israel's' offensive in Gaza, targeting vessels linked to or heading toward 'Israel' in what they describe as support for Palestinians.

Israel Pushes for International Coalition to Launch Renewed Strikes on Houthis in Yemen

Israel is reportedly intensifying its diplomatic and military outreach to form a broad international coalition—including the United States—to launch renewed strikes against the Iran-backed group in Yemen , Amid escalating attacks by Houthi militants targeting commercial shipping and Israeli infrastructure. Senior Israeli officials have sent formal communications to Washington, urging more robust joint operations and expanded military coordination, citing what they describe as a 'global maritime security threat.' Israel argues that the Houthis' continued missile and drone strikes on vessels in the Red Sea and infrastructure such as Eilat Port and Ben Gurion Airport call for collective action beyond limited air raids. Sources close to the Israeli defense establishment suggest that the proposed coalition may include regional and Western powers and could mimic past multinational efforts in Syria and Lebanon. Intelligence-sharing between Israel and the United States has reportedly increased in recent weeks, with a focus on neutralizing Houthi launch capabilities and disrupting their supply chains.
