Hu Ge opens up about mortality: I want more time

21 Feb - Hu Ge recently attracted attention with his interview with ELLE, as he chose to speak about death of all things. The 42-year-old actor, who sat down with the fashion magazine recently, said that he considered the age of 40s to be the age where you entered the countdown of life. "It is very necessary to prepare early, so that when the moment comes, you will not be caught off guard and then have many regrets about having many things in life that have not been accomplished," he said. Hu admitted that he first thought about the idea of mortality in the second grade of elementary school. "I was particularly afraid of death. I was filled with fear of death. I thought about how I knew nothing about the world before I was born. I was afraid that the day I died, I would return to a state of having nothing," he said, adding that he feared of going to sleep for a long time because it feels like being dead. Said the actor, he began to accept the idea of death calmly without fear and anxiety following her mother's passing but then realised how fast the time moves once he had his daughter. "I felt that I didn't have enough time. How come when I was not around, she suddenly walked, spoke, and form sentences? I want to live a few more years, I want to be able to accompany her more and see if she is doing well," he said. He mentioned that he wanted two chances to say goodbye: one was to turn the clock back to 2019, the day before his mother passed away, to make up for his regret of not being able to see her for the last time; the other was to go to his own bedside on the last day in the future and watch himself leave like "Patient No. 5" (the character in the stage play "A Dream Like a Dream").
