Affectionate Pit Bull Is Losing Hope in Shelter Watching Her Neighbors Get Adopted
Affectionate Pit Bull Is Losing Hope in Shelter Watching Her Neighbors Get Adopted originally appeared on PetHelpful. Sadly, animal shelters and rescues being over-capacity isn't exactly breaking news. Economic hardship makes pet ownership more expensive than ever, and populations of stray and feral animals in many cities continue to grow. True, more pet parents are also choosing to adopt, not shop, for a new pet, but shelter dogs like Pretzel are sometimes waiting longer than ever. Pretzel is an adorable 3-year-old Staffordshire Terrier mix who's been waiting oh-so-patiently at the Humane Society of Broward County in Florida for her forever person to find her. Although she's been a brave and resilient girl, she's beginning to lose hope after watching so many of her puppy neighbors get adopted. Poor Pretzel! I wish I could reach through the screen and give her a hug, but I know she's in wonderful hands at @humanebroward. She was surrendered to the shelter after raising a litter of puppies, and she's been waiting for someone to treat her like their baby ever since. Needless to say, this precious Pittie girl is more than ready to get adopted. The look on her face when she watches other dogs leave for their forever homes is positively heartbreaking, but her perfect person is out there somewhere. My fingers are crossed that they're just about to find her!Pretzel may have had a rough past, but she's a resilient, affectionate, and playful dog who will thrive in the right forever home. Her ideal person or family will help her gain confidence and feel like part of a family again, no matter how big or small that family may be. She's great with kids, adults, and other dogs, so any family could be her perfect match! Adopting a shelter dog can be a joyful experience, but it also requires plenty of patience and flexibility. Rescue dogs need time to adjust to their forever homes, but after a few weeks, they'll begin to feel completely at home. It's only a matter of time until it's Pretzel's turn to live out her own Happily Ever After! Looking for more PetHelpful updates? Follow us on YouTube for more entertaining videos. St. Joseph County Police nab a wild turkey at Martin's. Watch the video here.
GRANGER ― Seven months before Thanksgiving, a turkey had the gumption to wander into a supermarket in Granger on Thursday afternoon. It took the St. Joseph County Police Department about a half hour to deal with the rowdy trespasser that disrupted the pharmacy department at the Martin's Super Market store at 12850 Indiana 23 on Thursday, April 10. Police were sent to the grocery store around 2:30 p.m. following a 911 call indicating that the turkey was knocking items off of shelves and harassing customers. Several police arrived and debated how to handle the bird. The Humane Society of St. Joseph County was called, but it was busy on another turkey call. It turns out that the Humane Society is getting calls about turkeys right now because it's mating season, and some domesticated birds and other animals might have escaped enclosures because of the recent storms. Knowing that they'd have to take care of the situation, police debated corralling the bird with blankets to get it to the door until K-9 Officer Kyle O'Konski finally picked the bird up by its legs and carried it outside where it was free to roam. "The good news, no harm, no fowl," the department wrote in a Facebook post. "The turkey was peacefully escorted off the premises and released completely unharmed." The Facebook post also noted that O'Konski is "now certified in poultry negotiations!" Local police investigate shootings of stray cats
[Watch in the player above: What is Goddard's Law?] ASHLAND, Ohio (WJW) — Ashland police are investigating the shooting of a stray cat that was found dead on a woman's porch last week. Other stray cats in the area appear to have suffered similar injuries, said the woman, who told police she keeps food, water and warm shelter out for the stray cats in her neighborhood, according to a police report. I-TEAM: Suspects indicted for gun incident outside busy medical building It's believed to have happened near the intersection of Elmarna and Westview avenues, according to the Humane Society of Ashland County. The woman came to the police department on Monday afternoon to report she had found a gray-and-white stray cat dead on her porch, apparently shot in the head. She told police she first noticed the cat on her porch on Friday, Jan. 24, through security cameras she uses to keep tabs on the cats using her heated outdoor shelter. The next morning, the cat returned with 'a wound above its left eye,' reads the report. She later saw the cat lying down on the porch — but it never got back up. She took the cat's body to a veterinary clinic, where workers determined the cat had been shot in the head and abdomen, according to the report. A clinic X-ray provided to police showed a 'cone-shaped, cylindrical object' in the cat's torso — the same shape as a pellet gun projectile, an officer noted in the report. Who robbed Akron mail carrier? $150K reward The woman also told police she's seen two other cats with similar injuries to their necks. 'Reminder that is a felony offense to shoot any companion animal,' humane society workers wrote on Facebook. The Ohio Supreme Court in October expanded the definition of companion animal under state animal cruelty laws to include stray dogs and cats. The investigation is ongoing.
