Hunter with a Scalpel – K-drama Episode 15 Recap & Review

Episode 15 Episode 15 of Hunter with a Scalpel begins with a flashback to the past. We see that even after Jo-kyun pushes her, Eun-seo is injured but alive! Jo-kyun tries to drag her to the edge of the cliff but Se-eun stands in his way. Eun-seo uses the opportunity to push Jo-kyun instead and he goes over the cliff, falling all the way down to the rocks. At present, Se-hyun visits Jung-hyun in his hospital room and asks to help with the investigation but he says she's done enough. Jung-hyun then gets a call from Chang-jin which sends him rushing to the police station. Director Kim Jin-rae is still not convinced that Se-hyun isn't the serial killer. Jung-hyun tries to convince him to go after Jo-kyun. Elsewhere, Jo-kyun calls Se-eun inside the van. The next thing we see is Jo-kyun walking out with her bloody uniform. The detectives receive the package of clothes at the police station and send it to the forensic lab, where Dr Cheon accepts it. She takes the clothes to Yang Joon-kyung and then calls her out for delaying the investigation on purpose. She threatens to reveal the truth about the Nam Seung-hyeop case which sends Joon-kyung rushing to see Kim Myung-kwan. But she realises that he's promoting someone else over her despite promising her the position. This seems to be enough to change Joon-kyung's mind and she doesn't tell Kim about Dr Cheon's threats. Jung-hyun informs Se-hyun about the clothes. She then reveals that Jo-kyun came to the hospital and threatened Se-eun. She insists on going out and looking for Se-eun but Jung-hyun forbids it. He even tells the guards not to let Se-hyun out of the room. A flashback then shows Se-eun and Eun-seo trekking through the woods after Jo-kyun's fall over the cliff. But Eun-seo is weak from her head injury and she soon collapses and passes away. At present, Se-hyun continues to feel guilty about Se-eun. A nurse brings a bouquet of flowers, saying someone dropped them off. In the accompanying envelope, Se-hyun finds a clue from her father with an address. The detectives look for Se-eun around the site where the clothes were found but to no avail. The forensic team then informs them that the blood on her clothes was adult blood, which means Se-eun could still be alive! We then see Jo-kyun leave his white truck and drag a large blue drum through the woods. Presumably, Se-eun is inside it. At the hospital, Se-hyun creates a distraction and sneaks out in a nurse's uniform, taking some drugs with her on the way. Soon, the detectives meet the woman at the grocery store who had sold Se-eun some bread. She gives them a direction which leads them to Jo-kyun's hideout. Inside is the dead body of the journalist from earlier. Meanwhile, Jo-kyun meets with the man who's arranging his passage on the ship. He says there's only one ticket available and not two as Jo-kyun had requested. When the man refuses to help, Jo-kyun kills him as well in order to 'make space' for him and Se-hyun. In a final scene, we see the blue drum in the middle of a forest with little Se-eun desperately crying out for help. The Episode Review Hunter with a Scalpel Episode 15 continues the chase for Jo-kyun. Se-hyun's decision not to tell the detectives when he came to visit her is still a point of confusion. That was the perfect opportunity to get him but she doesn't even try. And now everybody is running helter-skelter trying to find him. If you can move past that, this one is a fairly engaging penultimate episode. Jo-kyun is fixated on getting Se-hyun to come with him but that also seems like the thing that will bring him down. Se-eun is very much alive but being stuck in that drum in the middle of nowhere is almost a worse fate. As Jung-hyun and Se-hyun rush to save her, the question of her survival remains. There are still a few gaps in the past as well, particularly around Eun-seo's mother, Lee Jung-mi. Here's hoping the finale offers up some answers. Hunter with a Scalpel – K-drama Episode 14 Recap & Review

Episode 14 Episode 14 of Hunter with a Scalpel begins with the press conference. Se-hyun describes how, from the age of five to ten, she was forced to assist her father in his murders. She lists all the cases and even describes Se-eun, who she wants to save. Yoon Jo-kyun watches the press conference and then looks at Se-eun suspiciously. At the hospital, the detectives share a warm reunion with Jung-hyun. They discuss how Se-hyun's confession isn't concrete proof and she could still be an accomplice to Jo-kyun. But Jung-hyun seems to believe her. Meanwhile, Se-eun considers the watch that Se-hyun gave her and tries to charge it. Se-hyun then visits Jung-hyun. Jung-hyun has her notebook and Se-hyun describes her happy days with Eun-seo. She explains how they ran away and mentions that Eun-seo died, although she's vague on the details. She then collapsed and was found by mountain climbers, who sent her to the orphanage. Jung-hyun then asks her to not finish things alone but to let him help her. Jo-kyun then enters the hospital and puts on a doctor's coat to disguise himself. As Se-hyun is leaving Jung-hyun's room, Jo-kyun pulls her aside. He gives her one last chance to run away with him. If not, he will kill Se-eun as well as Se-hyun's mother. Se-hyun is about to take his hand when a guard suddenly shows up and Jo-kyun leaves. However, a reporter recognises him and decides to follow him. At the police station, Jin-woo tells the others that Se-hyun has passed a lie detector test and also has an alibi for the first two murders. The detectives then discuss Jo-kyun's route and that he is probably going to escape via ship at Yeongpo. Meanwhile, the reporter follows Jo-kyun but eventually loses sight of him. He then sees Se-eun returning from a grocery store and follows her all the way to their hideout. Unfortunately, Jo-kyun takes him by surprise and kills him. A flashback shows Eun-seo and Se-eun running in the forest when Se-eun suddenly stops. Jo-kyun catches up to them and pushes Eun-seo, who falls and hits her head on a rock. The Episode Review Hunter with a Scalpel Episode 14 continues the chase to catch Yoon Jo-kyun and offers a lot of shifting in the process. Se-hyun gets a chance to tell Jung-hyun the honest truth and the other detectives are finally on the right track, working to catch Jo-kyun. Se-hyun's plan to lure Jo-kyun is a good one but when he does turn up, she doesn't alert the detectives. So, what was the point of the press conference? It's confusing and doesn't make sense, considering what a big deal this entire plan was in the previous episode. The rest of the episode fares a lot better. Flashbacks give us more insight into the past and what happened to Eun-seo and Se-eun. We also see more of what's happening at Jo-kyun and Se-eun's end, which offers more thrills and tension than the police side of things. With only two episode to go though, the series will need to start wrapping things up soon. Previous Episode Next Episode Expect A Full Season Write-Up When This Season Concludes!

Hunter with a Scalpel – K-drama Episode 13 Recap & Review

Episode 13 Episode 13 of Hunter with a Scalpel begins with Eun-seo seeing all the bloodstains inside the van while Se-eun enjoys her birthday gifts. Unfortunately, Choi Min-guk arrives and catches them. Eun-seo throws a liquid into Choi's face, grabs Se-eun's hand and runs into the woods. But as her father's words keep ringing in her ears, Se-eun comes to a stop despite Eun-seo's protests. At present, Jung-hyun and Se-hyun both are rushed to the hospital. The other detectives are there too and Hong Jin-woo realises that Jung-hyun's suspicion about Choi Min-guk was correct. At the police station, Chang-jin finds a photo from the Blue Barrel case of a man named Go Doo-sam. But the man in the picture is none other than Choi Min-guk. Back at the NFS, Doctor Cheon overhears Joon-kyung and Kim Myung-kwan talking about Se-hyun. She realises that Se-hyun never falsified any reports and tries to stand up for her. Meanwhile, Choi Min-guk makes little Se-eun sit with a bucket over her head as punishment for her trying to help Se-hyun. In the hospital, Se-hyun wakes up and we learn that Jung-hyun pulled through as well. Hong jin-woo then finds CCTV footage of Se-hyun hiding her notebook inside a grocery store. He takes it to Se-hyun and begins questioning her, but she stays quiet. The other three detectives go to Haryong to look into the Blue Barrel Case. On the way, they discuss how Choi Min-guk must have faked a limp all this time. While questioning the residents of the town, a woman tells the detectives that Choi Min-guk was not Go Doo-sam. His real name is Yoon Jo-kyun. He was in a relationship with a woman named Lee Jung-mi, but he didn't treat her well. Jung-mi then left her daughter with Jo-kyun and then ran away with Go Doo-sam. Hong keeps trying to question Se-hyun. She agrees to reveal everything if he sets up a press conference. By speaking at the press conference, she explains that Choi Min-guk will come after her and they can catch him. Jung-hyun wakes up in the hospital and sees the press conference on TV. Se-hyun goes up in front of all of the reporters and says she is the daughter of Yoon Jo-kyun, outing both of them as perpetrators of murders all the way from 1999. The Episode Review Hunter with a Scalpel Episode 13 changes things up. Choi Min-guk is on the run, punishing little Se-eun for her disobedience, and Jung-hyun and Se-hyun find themselves in the hospital. Our two main leads are relegated to bed rest here which means Jung-hyun's team takes up a lot of the screen time and action. And it works quite well! With the camaraderie established between Jung-hyun and his team, his colleagues' anger and frustration comes off as genuine and their further investigation of the case keeps things interesting. There's still some confusion around Yoon Jo-kyun's connection with Lee Jung-mi and Go Doo-sam, but I have a feeling that they didn't run away as much as ended up six feet under. With Se-hyun working with the police, I wonder if the show can still keep up the same level of thrill that we got while watching her face off against Jo-kyun. We're in the last leg of the show now, so here's hoping things wrap up on a high note. Previous Episode Next Episode Expect A Full Season Write-Up When This Season Concludes!

Hunter with a Scalpel – K-drama Episode 11 Recap & Review

Episode 11 Episode 11 of Hunter with a Scalpel begins with someone dragging Se-hyun away. She wakes up inside what seems to be Mr Choi's van, which is on the move. Back at the laundry shop, Mr Choi sets up the scene to make it look like he was attacked. He's taken away by the paramedics and blames it all on Se-hyun. However, Jung-hyun finds Choi's shoes which match the tracks he saw in the room in Haryong. While Jung-hyun's team suspects Se-hyun of all the murders, he suspects Choi Min-guk. However, they are suddenly joined by Director Kim Jin-rae, who says the investigation will now be carried out together with the Gyeonggi Southern office's team — Hong Jin-woo's team. Somewhere near a river, little Se-eun throws Se-hyun's phone and wallet in the water. However, she takes a liking to her watch and keeps it. Se-hyun wakes up to find herself tied up. Se-eun enters the van and Se-hyun tries to warn the little girl about her father's real intentions but it doesn't work. At the police station, Jung-hyun gets in trouble because Jin-woo thinks he has a personal relationship with Se-hyun and can't think about the case objectively. Jin-woo takes him off the case and Jung-hyun, the loose cannon that he is, grabs the case files and drives off. He goes through the files and finds the name Cheongun Mental Health Hospital in her call records. Meanwhile, Mr Choi is being pampered by the two women from his neighbourhood, one of whom is Se-hyun's landlord. A flashback shows Eun-seo preparing decorations for Se-eun's birthday. At Cheongun Mental Health Hospital, Jung-hyun learns about Se-hyun's past from a doctor who had met her. He says she was found in the woods and ended up at an orphanage. But a nun found that she had cut a cat open and then stitched it back together again. She took her to the mental health hospital, where she was diagnosed with antisocial disorder and labelled a sociopath. The doctor recommended she not be around other children. However, the nun didn't want her to be alone and decided to adopt Se-hyun, showering her with love and affection. At present, the doctor says that Se-hyun's care and affection for her mother don't seem like the behaviour of a killer. Back in Choi's van, Se-eun shares her food with Se-hyun. We then see more flashes of Eun-seo and Se-eun playing together. Elsewhere, Jin-woo holds a press conference announcing a reward for Se-hyun's capture. Meanwhile, Choi calls someone and tells them to prepare two adult tickets on a passenger ship. Sometime later, Se-hyun sees the door to the van is open and drags herself out. Outside, Mr Choi is cooking a barbecue with Se-eun. Se-eun cuts her loose and she joins them. Choi shows her news clips of all her colleagues badmouthing her and framing her for the fake reports of Nam Seung-hyeop as well. Choi says they're going to start over as a family and reveals that he plans to kill Se-eun. Se-hyun, once again, grabs a knife and tries to stab Choi. But he overpowers her and, as punishment, takes a knife to her fingers. The Episode Review Hunter with a Scalpel Episode 11 continues the thrills, the tension, the suspense! Things are dire now with Se-hyun in her father's clutches. The investigation is moving against her and Jung-hyun is the only one who seems to believe in her innocence. Meanwhile, Se-hyun isn't in a position to do much and when she does find herself free, she tries and fails again. Her attacks on Mr Choi continue to feel reckless and hasty, while he seems to predict her every move. However, Park Ju-hyun plays Se-hyun with a subtle desperation that makes it all a bit more plausible. Her scenes with Se-eun and the flashbacks with Eun-seo also offer some softness and emotion which is a nice change from the episode's high tension. All in all, a very engaging episode that makes you want to keep watching. Previous Episode Next Episode Expect A Full Season Write-Up When This Season Concludes!

Hunter with a Scalpel – K-drama Episode 10 Recap & Review

Episode 10 Episode 10 of Hunter with a Scalpel begins with Eun-seo reading out a story to little Se-eun. Suddenly, Mr Choi walks in and tells Eun-seo off for seeing Se-eun despite him telling her not to. He drags Eun-seo out and locks Se-eun inside. At present, Se-hyun breaks down in tears after her conversation with Jung-hyun, where he asked her about Eun-seo. Meanwhile, Chang-jin and the others have found the bloody mess at Kwon Hyung-jo's house. They find pancuronium as well as a scalpel with SSH on it — Se-hyun's scalpel. Se-hyun then gets a call from the hospital and is informed that her mother isn't well. She goes there and is told that her mother is stable now. She then remembers how her mother was the one who gave her the scalpel with her initials as a gift, reminding Se-hyun that she's a good person. At the police station, the entire team discusses their suspicions about Se-hyun. Things get dire for her when a call from the NFS's Dr Cheon (Se-hyun's colleague) confirms that the scalpel found is very similar to hers. Another flashback shows Eun-seo continuing to read the story to Se-eun from outside the room. She then promises to throw Se-eun a birthday party without their father finding out. At present, Se-hyun finds an old notebook of hers kept under her mother's pillow. It's got her old drawings as well as a receipt for the cleaning agent and cleaning brush in the name of Seo Won-hee. The police learn about Se-hyun's mother being at the nursing home and rush over there. However, Se-hyun is able to slip away undetected. After learning about how her mother has been in the hospital for five years, Jung-hyun and Chang-jin decide to go to Haryong (where Se-hyun used to live with her father). The other two cops go to Se-hyun's house, where they find some bloody remains in a blue bucket sitting in her bathroom. Jung-hyun and Chang-jin find Se-hyun's old place in Haryong, including all the red paint spilt across the floor on the inside. Among the red footprints there, Jung-hyun recognises Choi Min-guk's footprints due to the limp in his left foot. Meanwhile, Se-hyun tries to avoid the cops in Yongcheon. She then finally reaches her destination — the laundry shop. She enters and attacks her father, leading to a fight between the two. Unfortunately, he gets the better of her and injects her with pancuronium. The Episode Review Hunter with a Scalpel Episode 10 offers quite a thrilling ride! Se-hyun is in a pickle and Choi Min-guk's web is slowly tightening around her. The police are officially on her tail and even Jung-hyun seems conflicted about her. As a result, tensions are high and Se-hyun's every move feels precarious, which makes for an edge-of-the-seat watch. The flashbacks add a touch of sentimentality as well, prompting more mystery around Eun-seo's fate. There's also the mystery about Se-hyun's mother, who must be an adoptive one, as we saw her biological mother die. Despite everything, Se-hyun's actions don't feel very well thought out, particularly compared to her father's meticulous preparation in framing her for the murders. Barging into his shop to attack him seems like a terrible move but here's hoping that she has something more up her sleeve in the coming episodes!
