Man charged with illegal possession of 4,000 litres of diesel in Pasir Puteh

KOTA BARU: A 25-year-old man was charged in the Sessions Court here today with dealing in nearly 4,000 litres of diesel without valid authorisation in Pasir Puteh in February last year. Afiq Hazwan Azmi, however, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read before Judge Zulkifli Abdullah. The accused allegedly committed the offence at Lot PT 150, Jalan Kampung Gong Kala, Sungai Petai, Pasir Puteh, during a joint operation conducted by the state Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry and the Pasir Puteh district police headquarters' Criminal Investigation Department at 5am on Feb 2, 2024. During the raid, the accused was allegedly dealing in 3,993 litres of diesel stored in several Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs). The accused and several others were said to have fled the scene but were later tracked down by police and investigating officers. He was charged under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961, read together with Regulation 3(1) of the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974. The prosecution was led by ministry prosecuting officer Muhammadi Iman Masjuri, while the accused was represented by the legal firm Azrul Hasyimi & Co. The prosecution proposed bail at RM30,000 with additional conditions, including monthly reporting to the ministry's Kelantan office, refraining from contacting witnesses, and surrendering his passport to the court. The court set bail at RM15,000 with two sureties and fixed July 27 for mention and submission of documents.
