Man charged with illegal possession of 4,000 litres of diesel in Pasir Puteh
KOTA BARU: A 25-year-old man was charged in the Sessions Court here today with dealing in nearly 4,000 litres of diesel without valid authorisation in Pasir Puteh in February last year.
Afiq Hazwan Azmi, however, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read before Judge Zulkifli Abdullah.
The accused allegedly committed the offence at Lot PT 150, Jalan Kampung Gong Kala, Sungai Petai, Pasir Puteh, during a joint operation conducted by the state Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry and the Pasir Puteh district police headquarters' Criminal Investigation Department at 5am on Feb 2, 2024.
During the raid, the accused was allegedly dealing in 3,993 litres of diesel stored in several Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs).
The accused and several others were said to have fled the scene but were later tracked down by police and investigating officers.
He was charged under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961, read together with Regulation 3(1) of the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974.
The prosecution was led by ministry prosecuting officer Muhammadi Iman Masjuri, while the accused was represented by the legal firm Azrul Hasyimi & Co.
The prosecution proposed bail at RM30,000 with additional conditions, including monthly reporting to the ministry's Kelantan office, refraining from contacting witnesses, and surrendering his passport to the court.
The court set bail at RM15,000 with two sureties and fixed July 27 for mention and submission of documents.

The victim's mother then tried to stop Shahmar who suddenly took a machete and threatened the victim with the weapon. Processing, sale of ketum juice: 4 arrested in Kota Belud

KOTA BELUD: Four men aged between 20 and 50 were arrested in separate raids across several villages in the district for suspected involvement in the processing and sale of ketum juice. Kota Belud District Police Chief Supt Shahrudin Mat Husain said a team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of Kota Belud District Police Headquarters (IPD) conducted the raids from May 24 to June 5. Advertisement He said the arrests were made following intelligence gathering in Kampung Taun Gusi, Tampasuk 1, Kampung Suang Punggur, Kampung Pintasan and Kampung Ambong. 'The first arrest involved a man at a house in Kampung Pintasan at 11.30am, along with the seizure of eight bottles containing 1.5 litres of ketum juice. 'In the second raid at 3.25pm at a house in Kampung Taun Gusi, a man was arrested along with 24 bottles, each containing 1.5 litres of ketum juice,' he said. On June 5, a raid was conducted at a house in Kampung Ambong where another two men were arrested along with 10 bottles containing 1.5 litres of ketum juice. 'Further investigations revealed that the ketum juice was sold to customers at RM25 to RM30 per bottle,' he said. Briton's death: How did backpacker enter construction site, asks Lee
KUALA LUMPUR: The authorities must investigate how a 25-year-old British national managed to trespass onto a construction site before falling into an elevator shaft. Alliance for a Safe Community chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye questioned whether proper safety measures were in place, describing the incident as preventable. "The responsibility falls on the shoulders of the contractors and those managing the work site," he said. "Was there any signage at the site or a barricade? Were there any security personnel present? If they were on duty, they would not have allowed him to go through." He added that the company carrying out construction must conduct an internal investigation to prevent recurrence. Lee, who is also the former chairman of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, stressed that construction sites were legally required to have security measures in place to prevent trespassing. A construction work contractor is required to identify the perimeter of a construction site with a suitable sign and fence the area off under regulation 20(2) of the Occupational Safety and Health (Construction Work) (Design and Management) Regulations 2024. Anyone who violates the regulation may be liable to a fine not exceeding RM500,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year or both. On Thursday, the police confirmed that missing British backpacker Jordan Johnson-Doyle was found dead in an elevator shaft of a partially under-construction condominium in Bangsar here. A post-mortem showed that the cause of death was a chest injury due to a fall from height.
