SA's power-hitter Heinrich Klaasen announces retirement from international cricket

New Delhi [India] June 2 (ANI): South Africa wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen announced his retirement from international cricket on Monday. The wicketkeeper-batter, who made his debut in 2018, took to social media to announce his retirement. Klaasen posted on his Instagram, 'It is a sad day for me as I announce that I have decided to step away from international cricket. It took me a long time to decide what's best for me and my family for the future. It was truly a very difficult decision, but also one that I have absolute peace with.' Klaasen, who played in 122 international matches for the Proteas, expressed gratitude towards his coaches during his cricketing journey. 'I have made great friendships and relationships that I will treasure for life. Playing for the Proteas gave me the opportunity to meet great people that changed my life, and to those people I can't say thank you enough,' he said. 'My road to wearing the Proteas shirt was different than most, and there were certain coaches in my career that kept believing in me - to them I will always be grateful.' 'To have played with the Proteas badge on my chest was and will always be the biggest honour in my career.' 'I will always be a big Proteas supporter and would like to thank everyone who supported me and my teammates during my career,' he added. Klaasen's iconic whip-pull off the spinners made him a dangerous prospect across the formats for South Africa. He was a member of the South Africa side that featured in the recent ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023, ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, and the ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025. He scored 2141 runs with a highest score of 174 in his 60 ODIs at an average of 43.69. In the T20Is, he scored 1000 runs with a highest score of 81 and a strike rate of 141.84. While he smashed four centuries and 11 fifties in ODIs, Klaasen had five T20I half-centuries against his name. His power-hitting was on full display during a blistering career-best 174 against Australia at his home ground, SuperSport Park, in 2023 - the second highest score ever recorded by a number five. Klaasen had earlier retired from Tests in January 2024, having featured in four games in the longest format. (ANI)

Kuwait stuns Nepal in nail-biter to clinch historic T20I title

HONG KONG, April 14: In a pulsating final at the Mission Road Ground, Kuwait scripted history by clinching a thrilling 3-run win over Nepal, becoming the champion of the Hong Kong Men's T20I Series 2025, powered by India Club and presented by Hong Kong China Cricket. Opting to bowl first, Nepal made early breakthroughs, but Clinto Anto (26 off 14) and Ravija Sandaruwan (63 off 36) laid a solid foundation with aggressive strokeplay. Their efforts were backed by Usman Ghani (23 off 15) and a handy finish by skipper Mohamed Aslam (13* off 15), guiding Kuwait to a competitive 174/7 in 20 overs. Among Nepal's bowlers, Sompal Kami (2/26) and Nandan Yadav (2/34) impressed, while Yasin Patel, playing his 50th T20I, kept things tight with 2 economical wickets. Nepal's chase got off to a horror start, collapsing to 92/8 despite a lone warrior effort from Basir Ahmad, who smashed a brilliant 80 off 43 balls. Debutant Naveenraj Rajendran (2/26) and Anudeep Chandamara (3/18) triggered a top-order collapse, with Yasin Patel's miserly spell (2/24) putting a stranglehold in the powerplay. However, a late resurgence led by Nandan Yadav (37 off 14) and Basir brought Nepal right back into the contest. Needing 11 off the final over, a no-ball six from Anudeep swung the pendulum, but the bowler held his nerve, delivering two dots and the final wicket as Clinto Anto took the catch to seal an epic win. Anudeep Chandamara was deservedly named Player of the Final for his match-turning spell. This result is all the more significant given Nepal's impressive stature in world cricket. Having played in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 — where it came within a whisker of defeating South Africa, losing by just 1 run — Nepal entered this series ranked 17th in the world, compared to Kuwait's 24th. Since the T20I ranking system was officially introduced in 2019, this victory marks one of Kuwait's biggest scalps and a giant leap forward. With the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 on the horizon, set to be played in India and Sri Lanka, Kuwait will be eyeing the Asia Qualifiers in September 2025 with renewed belief and purpose

BCCI unveils India's home schedule

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled the schedule for India's men's home season for 2025, featuring high-profile series against the West Indies and South Africa across all formats. India will first host the West Indies for a two-match Test series. The series will begin in Ahmedabad on October 2, with the second Test scheduled for Kolkata from October 14. Following the West Indies series, India will welcome South Africa for an all-format tour comprising two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is. The Test series will mark a historic occasion, as Guwahati is set to host its first-ever Test match. The series opener will take place in New Delhi on November 14, while Guwahati will stage the second Test from November 22. The ODI series between India and South Africa will be held in Ranchi, Raipur, and Visakhapatnam from November 30 to December 6. This will be followed by a five-match T20I series, scheduled from December 9 to December 19, with matches taking place in Cuttack, Chandigarh, Dharamsala, Lucknow, and Ahmedabad. India and the West Indies last faced each other in a Test series in July 2023, where India secured a 1-0 series win. Meanwhile, India's all-format contest against South Africa will be the first since their tour of South Africa from December 2023 to January 2024. Notably, India triumphed over the Proteas in the final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 under Rohit Sharma's leadership. Before their home season, India will embark on a five-match Test series in England from June 20 to August 4. Additionally, India will travel to Australia for a three-match ODI series and a five-match T20I series from October 9 to November 8, ahead of South Africa's tour.
