Flock and price-bonus prizes for ICM young sheep farmer contest
Irish Country Meats (ICM) has announced details of a competition for farmers aged 25 or younger with a total prize fund of over €10,000. Titled 'Flocks of the Future,' the competition is supported by Teagasc, Sheep Ireland, and Bord Bia and is described by ICM as 'an initiative to support and encourage young entrants into sheep farming'. Four winners will be selected, with each receiving a mini-flock comprising of a five-star ram and five breeding hoggets, worth over €2,500 in total. Winners will also receive access to one-on-one advisory supports, industry insights, and a 20c/kg price bonus on lambs sold to ICM under the initiative. The prize includes tailored supports from ICM, Teagasc, Bord Bia, and Sheep Ireland. How to enter To enter the 'Flocks of the Future' competition, applicants must submit a short video outlining their plans for the flock, as well as a written entry answering three key questions around flock management, sustainability, and the role that ICM can play in supporting their success. The closing date for entries is June 12, 2025. Young farmers can click here to download the application form. Commenting on the initiative, managing director at ICM, Jerome Aherne said: 'Irish sheep farming is facing a generational challenge. 'Through this competition, we want to give young farmers the opportunity, support, and confidence to establish and grow their own flocks. In keeping with the theme of supporting young farmers, ICM will also sponsor the 'Battle of the Ag Colleges', a competition among Ireland's top agricultural students. Historical walking tour focuses on the story of Lake Charles
Lake Charles' first City Hall was constructed in 1903. Before that, city council members met at homes, hotels or the second floor of the city's then-fire station at the corner of Iris and Cole streets. (American Press Archives) T he Imperial Calcasieu Museum is stepping beyond its walls to highlight and preserve Lake Charles' rich history this weekend. Starting at 2 p.m. Friday, ICM will host the first of three guided historical walking tours through Downtown Lake Charles. The 'Story of Lake Charles: Historical Walking Tours' will bring the city's history to the forefront in the locations of landmark events. The tours offer locals and tourists alike an opportunity to learn about landmark events and showcase influential figures who helped shape Lake Charles into what it is today. Ashley Royer, interim executive director, said the tours are a continuation of ICM's undertaking to preserve the area's history and culture, and will allow the museum to take this mission out of the confines of the building and into the area it honors. 'It is a way to take them out and about and just travel within the footsteps,' Royer said. The museum, which has operated since 1963, has curated the tour using precious — and scarce — primary sources such as Maude Reid's scrapbooks, as well as oral histories and input from area historians, to script the tour. Anna Alamond, an ICM creative specialist, will serve as docent for the tour. Royer said the walking tour is a chance for people to hear the accurate history of Lake Charles in a digital world of misinformation. 'If you imagine 20 years ago, everything's in the newspaper, everything's in a paper format, and we've moved to a digital format and part of it is that we're losing,' she explained. 'There's been mistranslations of the history that's going out.' History requires one to look backward and forward. And this is an important practice, Royer said, especially considering recurring themes the area is experiencing. The 1910 fire consumed the downtown area, but Lake Charles became a more developed city after the tragedy. Now, Lake Charles is in recovery from an onslaught of natural disasters, coupled with a pandemic. 'We think it's important because it's not just knowing what happened before, but what's happening currently,' Royer said. 'And I think it's important that history is a two-way street. You have to look back and forward. 'And there are just some really unique individuals who played a part in our development. I feel like you should know their stories.' The tour begins and ends at the Historic City Hall Arts and Cultural Center, 1001 Ryan St., and will last about two hours. Two more guided history tours will be offered in June. Tickets can be purchased on ICM's website. The cost is $20 for adults and $15 for seniors, military and children. Children ages 4 and younger admitted free.

Box Reports First Quarter Fiscal 2026 Financial Results
REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Box, Inc. (NYSE:BOX), the leading Intelligent Content Management ('ICM') platform, today announced preliminary financial results for the first quarter fiscal year 2026, which ended April 30, 2025. Billings of $242.3 million, up 27%, or 17% on a constant currency basis. GAAP gross profit of $215.6 million, or 78.0% of revenue, up from $206.4 million, or 78.0% of revenue. Non-GAAP gross profit of $222.3 million, or 80.5% of revenue, up from $212.2 million, or 80.2% of revenue. GAAP operating income of $6.3 million, or 2.3% of revenue, compared to $18.0 million, or 6.8% of revenue. Non-GAAP operating income of $69.8 million, or 25.3% of revenue, compared to $70.4 million, or 26.6% of revenue. GAAP diluted earnings per share ('EPS') of $0.02, compared to $0.08, impacted by $0.01 from favorable foreign exchange rates. This also includes a negative impact of $0.01 from the recognition of non-cash deferred tax expenses, in line with the prior period. Sheep trade: Heavy ewe and hogget price cuts this week
This week's sheep trade has seen processors move to cut prices for ewes and hoggets and hold spring lamb prices for the first half of the week. Up to 50c/kg has been cut from both cull ewe and hogget prices this week, with hogget price now having fallen €1.30/kg since the start of April. The price cuts come ahead of the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha on Friday, June 6, and many farmers had expected price rises in the sheep trade in advance of this, but to date this has failed to materialise. Factory prices This week, Kepak is quoting €7.35/kg plus a 15c/kg Quality Assurance (QA) bonus for hoggets up to 23kg carcass-weight, leaving €7.50/kg on offer here. This offer is back 50c/kg from last Monday. The Athleague, Co. Roscommon-based factory is quoting €8.85/kg plus a 15c/kg QA bonus for spring lambs up to 21kg carcass-weight leaving €9.00/kg on offer here – the same price as last week. Kepak is quoting €5.00-€5.10/kg for cull ewes up to 46kg carcase weight. This price is back 50c/kg from last week. Irish Country Meats (ICM) is quoting €9.00/kg plus a 20c/kg QA bonus for spring lambs up to 21kg carcase weight leaving €9.20/kg on offer here until Tuesday, May 27. This price is at the same level as last week. The Navan, Co. Meath and Camolin, Co. Wexford based outlet is quoting €7.50/kg plus a 20c/kg QA bonus for hoggets up to 23g carcase weight leaving €7.70/kg on offer here. This price is back 30c/kg from last week. ICM is quoting €5.00/kg for cull ewes – back 50c/kg from last week. Kildare Chilling has no official quotes this week but sources have told Agriland the outlet is paying €7.50/kg for hoggets and €8.80-9.00/kg for QA spring lambs. It is understood the processor has less interest in cull ewes this week but is paying €5/kg for these. Eid lifts sheep trade at Kilkenny Mart There was a smaller sale of sheep at Kilkenny Mart today (Monday, May 26) with 350 head on offer. Speaking to Agriland after the sale, auctioneer George Chandler said: 'Spring lambs met a better trade this week especially ram lambs which attracted more interest due to the Eid al-Adha festival.' Spring lamb prices at the sale peaked at €227/head for 10 lambs averaging 48kg. Another pen of 10 ram lambs weighing 42kg made €184/head. Hoggets made from €180-200/head in the sale with 25 hoggets weighing 59kg each making €200/head. Another 19 hoggets weighing 66kg each made €199/head. Cull ewes made from €70-320/head in the sale.
