Not Pant Walking In With Broken Foot! Yuvraj Picks Best Moment Of IND-ENG Series

Last Updated: Yuvraj Singh has lauded Jadeja and Sundar for their vital hundreds that helped India draw the fourth Test against England. Former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh has said that the moment of the tournament from the five-Test series against England was when the visitors drew the series at Old Trafford in Manchester, lauding Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar's efforts to draw the fourth Test. Coming into the game with a 1-2 deficit, India looked to lose it as well, before Jadeja and Sundar came together to score individual hundreds and ensure that India didn't lose any wickets for two sessions. The five-match series eventually ended in a 2-2 draw after India eked out a narrow six-run win in the final Test at the Oval. 'The moment in the tournament was when India drew the Test series. I've never seen, in a very long time, Washington and Jadeja got hundreds and drew a Test," Yuvraj said while speaking to ICC Digital on the sidelines of the '50 Days To Go' Women's Cricket World Cup event. 'That speaks volumes. Jadeja has been there for a long time. But I think Washington Sundar, as a youngster coming into the team, I think it was incredible to do what he did," Yuvraj said. 'I think it's just fantastic because I felt when you have a young team going to England, it's a lot of pressure," Yuvraj added. The drawn series saw India's Test skipper Shubman Gill & Co. share the inaugural Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Yuvraj lauded Gill for silencing doubts about his overseas batting, guiding the side with exemplary captaincy. 'There were a lot of question marks over his overseas record. The guy became the captain and scored four Test hundreds. It's just unbelievable that when you're given responsibility, how you take it," Yuvraj said. 'So, very proud of them. I certainly feel it's a win for us, although it's a drawn series, because it's a young team. And it's not easy to go and play well in England and prove yourself," Yuvraj added. Karun Nair said both teams shared respectful conduct, and McCullum called it a great series. read more Karun Nair spills the beans as he reveals what happened during the celebration between India and England players. Image: PTI The recently concluded India vs England Test series had its fair share of controversies as players from both teams never missed an opportunity to gain some psychological edge, but it all ended with a friendly celebration in the England dressing room. India batter Karun Nair, who was a part of the conversation, has now revealed a bit of what happened when the Indian cricket team visited its opposing team's locker room. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD It has been a long-standing tradition in England that no matter how bloody and brutal a Test series is, the players later catch up in the home team's dressing room at the end of the series, leaving rivalries on the pitch and forming a new friendly bond. The India-England series also witnessed some highly-charged moments, which began with the verbal spat between England opener Zak Crawley and India captain Shubman Gill in the third Test at Lord's. Later, Ben Duckett and Akash Deep were seen sharing some banter, Joe Root seemed upset with Prasidh Krishna, and who can forget the handshake drama between England skipper Ben Stokes and Ravindra Jadeja. Karun Nair spills the beans on IND-ENG dressing room celebration Making a return to the Indian team after a gap of eight years in England, Nair shared how Team India celebrated the sensational win at the Oval by six runs as they drew the series 2-2 in the final match. The Karnataka batter revealed that despite a memorable win at the Oval, Team India had a simple celebration before leaving for the England dressing room. 'Not really. We didn't overdo anything,' Nair told ESPNCricinfo. He added that the celebrations 'weren't as much as people think.' Talking about what transpired in the England dressing room, Nair said that players from both teams had respectful conduct towards each other as they shared their stories. He added that England coach Brendon McCullum called the series one of the greatest in 'recent memory.' 'We had a good chat, both teams were respectful of the fact that it was a great series,' Nair said. 'Brendon McCullum mentioned it was the greatest Test series to be played in recent memory. As players, we didn't feel the magnitude of it during the matches, but looking back at how the moments panned out, as a group, we feel we achieved something special.' STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

'When Siraj Took That Final Wicket...': McCullum's Admiration For Indian Star

Last Updated: England's coach Brendon McCullum was full of praise for Mohammed Siraj for taking nine wickets in the final Test. He called the five-match series one of the best he's experienced. England's head coach Brendon McCullum on Monday praised India pacer Mohammed Siraj for his remarkable effort in the final Test and described the five-match series as one of the best he has been part of. Siraj stood out by delivering an exceptional performance under pressure, taking nine wickets in the fifth Test, which India won by six runs. He finished the series with 23 wickets, the highest among both teams. 'When Siraj took that final wicket, as much as we were incredibly disappointed, (I had) admiration for him and the fight he has got as a cricketer and the way he was able to do what he did," McCullum was quoted as saying on Sky Sports after the match. What Did Brendon McCullum Say About IND-ENG Series? The Test series was fiercely contested and full of drama, making it one of the most intense showdowns in recent memory. 'That is the best five-match Test series I have ever been a part of and witnessed. It just oscillated so much right throughout the six weeks and I felt it had everything. I thought there was quite a lot of hostilities at times, camaraderie at times, great cricket at times, there was some average cricket because of the pressure both sides were under," said the former dashing Kiwi batter. 'We knew it was going to be hard coming into the series, we knew they were going to test us physically and mentally. I think it tested both teams a lot more than what was expected. It was a cracking series and I think 2-2 was a fair reflection." Reflecting on the mistakes and turning points throughout the series, McCullum noted 'Playing all five days of all five Tests becomes a mental exertion. Obviously, we had to call in fresh legs in this last Test match. You know it is coming but you don't know what is coming until it hits you." 'It is the hardest thing in cricket playing a five-game series and being tested as much as you are for as long as you are. It challenges not just as a sportsperson but your character. It questions how much you want it. As a fan of a game, I thought it was an unbelievable spectacle." 'You are always going to have missed opportunities throughout a series. India will probably look back at some opportunities they had — maybe in first test at Headingley. Even at Lord's, the natural rhythm of a game will always serve up certain situations. 'Even last night, we had Brook and Root playing as well as they were. For India to come back and take 7-60, it is another great example of what can happen in this great game we play," he said. McCullum concluded by acknowledging the team's growth and understanding that their style of play gives them the best opportunity to succeed, even if it doesn't guarantee victory. 'I think when we move away from our style of cricket, that is when we become vulnerable and our wicket-taking drops. If we stay true to what we believe in, backing it, and almost double down on the philosophy, it gives us our greatest opportunity. I think that is what we were able to do at Lord's. 'With bat in hand we were brave when we needed to be. There are many different things throughout the series where we grew as a team. 'It is hard to say when you lost the last Test but throughout the changing room was growing and was understanding that when we play our style, it gives us our greatest chance. It doesn't guarantee anything but it gives us our greatest chance." Get latest Cricket news, live score and match results on News18.
