Candace turns to her husband and asks, 'Why did my husband marry me? Aniket, why did you marry me?' Aniket responds with a heartfelt explanation. 'I married you because when I first met you or when I first saw you, I was really impressed with everything you said you were doing. I especially liked the fact that you are a teacher. Everything you said that night made me feel welcome. As an international student, your hospitality was so nice. You have always been nice to me. I felt like the time spent with you would be nice and fun, and you like to work on things. I also like your family.' The importance of family Candace interjects, asking, 'Yeah, who, dad?' to which Aniket laughs and continues, 'Yes, I was really happy when I talked to them and got to know them. I got a really friendly vibe and thought this is a really good family, and I want to be with a good family. So maybe that is why.' Candace ends the exchange with a smile, saying, 'Oh, that's sweet, honey. I think he married because of my dad.' Watch the clip here: A caption full of gratitude In the post's caption, the couple noted, 'Obviously we know the comment was meant to say 'why did you marry her'. Although the tone may not have been positive, we are so thankful for this sincere moment. We do not have these types of conversations often where we reminisce about how or why we chose each other.' Internet reacts The video has prompted affectionate reactions from users. One viewer described it as 'so simple and wholesome but profound at the same time,' while another commented that Candace is 'stunning, both inside and outside.' Some noted the couple's shared positivity, with one remarking, 'Both are happy, positive and growing together.' Another user interpreted Aniket's words as meaning 'She is very kind and beautiful, and he loves her.'

Will stand as a wall to protect farmers: Modi
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi pushed for greater self-reliance, local manufacturing of everything from fertilisers to EV batteries, and pledged to protect farmers amid trade tensions with the US, delivering his 12th straight Independence-Day address on Friday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi salutes during address to the nation from the ramparts of Red Fort on 79th Independence Day. (ANI) 'Farmers, fishermen, cattle rearers are our top priorities', Modi said in his customary address at the Red Fort in New Delhi, soon after hoisting the Tricolour under a cloudy, monsoon sky in New Delhi. 'Modi will stand like a wall against any policy that threatens their interests. India will never compromise when it comes to protecting the interests of our farmers,' he said. The agriculturists of the country made the country self-sufficient, Modi added, underscoring the fifth-largest economy's stand on not opening up the farm sector during the US-India trade talks. The PM said the country needed to achieve self-sufficiency in energy, critical minerals, technology and weaponry, underscoring the need to build high quality goods even as 'economic selfishness rises by the day'. Linking local production with national pride, Modi said, 'The yardstick of a nation to measure its self-esteem is to see to what extent it is self-reliant,' Modi said. 'Everybody knows, that after we gained freedom, feeding millions was a great challenge. It was my farmers who toiled to fill our silos with grains. Modi stands like a wall, won't compromise on farmers.' A large majority of Indian agriculturists are small landowners, tending to tiny parcels of farmland. The farm sector supports nearly half of the nation's population and agriculture accounts for nearly 18% of India's GDP, which explains the country's continued protectionism. The focus on the economy comes against the backdrop of US President Donald Trump's decision to impose a 50% tariff rate on India, much higher than its neighbours and peers, which disadvantages exports and could hurt nearly one per cent of the nation's gross domestic product, according to some analysts. 'The need of the hour is to take a resolve for building a strong India ... I want our traders, shopkeepers to display boards for swadeshi (India-made) products,' Modi said. Modi said that agriculture remains the cornerstone of India's development, with the country being no. 1 in milk, pulses and jute production, and no 2 in rice, wheat, cotton, fruits and vegetables. Farm exports have crossed ₹4 lakh crore, reflecting the nation's global competitiveness, he said, adding that to further empower farmers, the government launched the PM Dhanya Dhanya Krishi Yojana for 100 backward farming districts, complementing ongoing support through PM-Kisan and irrigation schemes etc. Earlier this month, Trump signed an executive order imposing an additional 25% tariff on all Indian goods entering the US, making good on his threat to penalise New Delhi's continued purchases of Russian oil. The additional 25%, due to take effect on August 27, puts India at par with Brazil as the two countries whose exports will face the highest levy of 50% on their goods. The duties would put Indian exporters at a significant disadvantage compared to their rivals in Bangladesh, Indonesia and Vietnam – which face tariffs of between 19% and 20% . India has called the American actions 'unfair, unjustified and unreasonable' and said it will take all actions necessary to protect its national interests, India and the US failed to hammer out a bilateral trade pact after several rounds of negotiations, despite Trump's hint in the middle of the talks that a 'big deal' was imminent. India's refusal to open up its farm, fishery and dairy sectors was said to be one of the main sticking points.

Renukaswamy murder case: Darshan, other accused kept in separate cells; two more accused sent to jail
Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa and the other accused, who were re-arrested on Thursday in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case after the Supreme Court cancelled their bail, are being held in the admission barracks in separate cells of Parappana Agrahara Central Prison. The Supreme Court had warned of strict action if any special treatment is given to him after the previous episode. During his earlier stint in the Bengaluru Central Prison last year, a photograph surfaced showing Darshan hobnobbing with rowdy-sheeters Wilson Garden Naga and Srinivas and allegedly getting preferential treatment. The leaked image left prison authorities red-faced and led to Darshan's transfer to Ballari Prison. Southeast division police headed by DCP Sarah Fathiema are investigating the cases that followed the leaked picture. A source told The Hindu that at they are preparing to file charge sheets in the cases. Bengaluru city police followed up the development with surprise raids, uncovering multiple irregularities. Subsequently, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) moved the court and secured orders to transfer the rowdy sheeters to other prisons in the State. These individuals had been detained under the Karnataka Control of Organised Crimes Act (KCOCA), the harshest law in the Karnataka Police statutes. Given the history of irregularities at the central prison, officials have now made extensive arrangements to securely house Darshan and his associates. Two more remanded Meanwhile, two more accused in the murder case were remanded in Parappana Agrahara Central Prison on Friday. The police produced Jagadeesh alias Jagga (accused number 6) and Anu Kumar alias Anu (accused number 7) before a judge at his residence in southeastern Bengaluru on Friday, after which they were escorted to the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison. S. Girish, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), West, who is overseeing the developments, told The Hindu that both were arrested in Chitradurga. 'They have been remanded in judicial custody until August 23 and will be produced before the court again on that date,' Mr. Girish said. The Supreme Court set aside a Karnataka High Court order granting bail to seven of the 17 accused in the murder of Renukaswamy, a Chitradurga resident. Renukaswamy's body was found near a stormwater drain close to Sumanahalli in west Bengaluru on June 9, 2024. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of 17 people, including Darshan and his friend Pavithra Gowda. Police filed a charge sheet in September, after which Darshan and six others approached the Karnataka High Court and were granted bail on October 30, 2024. Bengaluru police later petitioned the Supreme Court seeking cancellation of their bail. On Thursday, the apex court ruled in favour of Bengaluru police, leading to the re-arrest of all the accused. Pavithra was the first to be detained from her residence in RR Nagar, followed by other accused, including Pradosh, Lakshman, and Nagaraj. Darshan was arrested from his wife's apartment in Hosakerehalli, south Bengaluru, where he had gone to visit his wife and son.
