Are you still using traditional sunscreens? Discover why full light technology is a game changer!

On National Sunscreen Day, experts urge Indians to upgrade sun protection. Dr. Aparna Santhanam highlights Full Light Technology, shielding against UVA, UVB rays, infrared radiation, and blue light from screens. This innovation combats premature aging and pigmentation, crucial in India's intense sun. As we mark National Sunscreen Day, it's time to rethink how we protect our skin in an age where sun exposure and screen time go hand in hand. Traditional sunscreens have long focused on shielding skin from UVA and UVB rays, but research now shows that visible light and infrared radiation also contribute significantly to premature aging, pigmentation, and changes in skin texture. Enter Full Light Technology: a next-gen innovation that broadens protection to cover the entire light spectrum. Dermatologist and Skin expert Dr. Aparna Santhanam explains, 'Full spectrum exposure can lead to long-term skin damage, and Full Light Technology offers an essential safeguard against these effects.' Unlike conventional sunscreens, this technology shields skin not just from UV rays, but also from infrared radiation and visible light, including blue light emitted by digital devices. 'Think of it as an upgrade to your sun protection,' says Dr. Santhanam. 'It's not just about sunburn anymore. It's about preserving radiance, firmness, and skin tone over time.' Sunscreens with Full Light Technology combine high-performance protection with added skincare benefits, making them indispensable for maintaining healthy, youthful-looking skin. Further enhancing this evolution is the role of Artificial Intelligence. AI-powered skincare tools can now analyze your skin and lifestyle to recommend sunscreens tailored to your unique needs. 'With AI, skincare becomes both personalized and precise,' adds Dr. Santhanam. In a country like India, where intense sun exposure is a year-round reality, upgrading to sunscreens with Full Light Technology isn't just a seasonal recommendation - it's a daily essential. The damage caused by visible light and infrared radiation often goes unnoticed until signs like pigmentation, dullness, and fine lines begin to surface. Full Light Technology fills the critical gap left by traditional sunscreens, offering protection that's both preventive and corrective. As awareness around holistic skincare grows, dermatologists advocate for its everyday use, even indoors, to combat cumulative exposure from both natural and artificial sources. With National Sunscreen Day serving as a timely reminder, adopting advanced sun care solutions ensures that your skin remains protected, resilient, and future-ready. Let's go beyond the basics today. Opt for smarter protection with Full Light Technology and let innovation shield your skin every day. Sunscreen basics: A simple guide to smarter sun protection

Sunscreen is more than just a skincare product—it's your skin's first line of defence against the damaging effects of the sun. From shielding against harmful UVA and UVB rays to preventing sunburn, tanning, pigmentation, and even skin cancer, sunscreen plays a vital role in preserving skin health. Yet, many still overlook its importance or apply it temperatures rise and UV exposure intensifies, incorporating sunscreen into your daily routine becomes essential, not just for beauty but for long-term today spoke with Dr Aparna Santhanam, Dermatologist and Skin Expert at ITC Dermafique, to understand why sunscreen is your first line of defence against summer damage and how to use it right. With summer at its peak, protecting your skin from harmful sun exposure becomes non-negotiable. Sunscreen is not just a skincare essential—it's a powerful defence against sunburn, premature ageing, pigmentation, and long-term risks like skin cancer. But its effectiveness lies not only in the product itself but in how consistently and correctly it's applied. According to dermatologist Dr Aparna Santhanam, 'The application of sunscreen is a disciplined routine—it's not just about using it, but about using it correctly. "Consistent and complete coverage is the foundation of sun-safe skin."Sunscreen is not just a skincare essential—it's a powerful defence against sunburn, premature ageing, pigmentation, and long-term risks like skin cancer. "Consistent and complete coverage is the foundation of sun-safe skin." CHOOSE THE RIGHT SUNSCREEN FOR DAILY PROTECTIONA broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or more is recommended for everyday use. It should protect against both UVA and UVB rays. In humid climates, water-resistant formulations are especially helpful. Dr Santhanam recommends sunscreens featuring Full Light Technology, which offer broader protection by blocking infrared and visible light too.'Look for lightweight, fast-absorbing textures—especially during warmer months,' she says. 'This ensures that sunscreen doesn't feel heavy on your skin, encouraging daily use.'APPLY 15 TO 20 MINUTES BEFORE STEPPING OUTSunscreen needs time to activate. Whether you choose mineral, chemical, or hybrid sunscreens, it's critical to apply them at least 15 to 20 minutes before sun exposure. This window allows the formula to bond with your skin and start working effectively.'Sunscreen should be seen as your first line of defence against solar radiation, which emits UV, infrared, and visible rays—all of which can cause inflammation, accelerate ageing, or even trigger skin cancer,' says Dr EVERY TWO HOURS—ESPECIALLY AFTER SWEATING OR SWIMMINGadvertisementOne of the most common mistakes? Only apply sunscreen once in the morning. Dr Santhanam stresses the importance of reapplying every two hours, and immediately after sweating, swimming, or towel drying.'This is a non-negotiable step in your sun protection routine,' she says. Skipping reapplication can compromise your skin's barrier, even if you've used a high SPF MISS THE EARS, NECK, OR SCALPOften neglected areas such as the neck, ears, feet, and scalp are just as vulnerable to sun damage as the face. 'Choose a full-spectrum, matte-finish sunscreen that offers both comfort and reliable coverage,' advises Dr. areas are prone to burns and hyperpigmentation and should never be skipped during HOW MUCH TO USE—AND DON'T SKIPHow much sunscreen is enough? According to Dr Santhanam, most people underapply. Use a nickel-sized amount for the face and about a shot glass (30 ml) for the body. Face-specific and body sunscreens generally provide the same level of protection—the difference lies in the quantity applied.'Even the best sunscreen won't work if you're not using enough,' she A SMALL DAILY STEP, A LIFELONG INVESTMENTUsing sunscreen takes less than five minutes a day but can significantly lower your risk of sunburn, pigmentation, premature ageing, and even skin cancer. According to Dr Santhanam, it's not about waiting for visible damage—it's about protecting your skin every single Watch

Together, the Knowledge Centre and the Indian Skin Health report mark a pivotal moment in India's skincare journey--bringing Indian skin to the center of scientific research and consumer focus. Sameer Satpathy, Divisional Chief Executive, Personal Care Products Business, ITC Limited, states, "Indian skin is unique and requires customized solutions. ITC Dermafique has always focused on advanced innovation, offering differentiated products that are tested on Indian skin. This initiative is a significant step towards empowering Indian consumers with knowledge and solutions to make informed choices for their skin." The report unveils some compelling findings that enables a better understanding of Indian Skin. 1. Wrinkles are often considered and understood as the first sign of ageing, but the report states nearly 50% of Indian women experience pigmentation, with a staggering 74% seeing it before they even hit 30 - long before wrinkles typically emerge. This is because Indian skin has more collagen*, which delays wrinkles, but the presence of 50% more melanin in Indian Skin than Caucasians*, predisposes Indians to pigmentation. 2. The study also reveals a curious gap between aspiration and reality when it comes to trends like 'glass skin'. While a staggering 98% of Indian women aspire to have glass skin, the reality is quite different. Indian skin has almost 4x larger pore size and close to 5x higher density of pores than Chinese, per independent research papers*. The larger and greater number of pores lead to uneven texture and appearance of Indian skin, making the achievement of Glass Skin tougher. However, consumers are not aware of these unique Indian Skin characteristics as only 7% consider large pores a significant concern as per the Dermafique Indian Skin Health Report. 3. While Indian Skin has more collagen than Caucasians*, it also has a weaker skin barrier and lower moisture retention* making it more prone to skin dryness. 4. Indian skin has a higher concern of dryness as compared to Caucasian skin due to lower presence of Natural Moisturizing Factor* - 80% of women experience dryness from environmental factors, and 87% struggle with under-eye dryness even after moisturizing, revealing a need for balanced hydration. Beyond these key findings, the report reveals several other insights: * Sun Tan and sensitivity: Indian skin has 50% more melanin compared to Caucasian skin and hence it has a higher incidence of tanning, unlike Caucasian skin which frequently faces sun burn. 81% of women report tanning more frequently than sunburn. * Acne prevalence: Acne is a larger concern for Indian skin than it is for Caucasians. The pores on Indian skin are larger*, owing to more sebum secretion, and can lead to more acne outbreaks. Acne remains a top concern for 68% of women, with a significant 94% of those aged 20-25 battling breakouts, highlighting it's not just a teenage woe. With world-class R & D and a team of scientists bringing international expertise, ITC Dermafique is committed to crafting solutions that are tailored, tested, and proven for Indian skin health.
