This Morning viewers left cringing as Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary do karaoke

This Morning viewers were left wondering just what was happening when its hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary burst into song during Wednesday's episode This Morning viewers were left wondering just what was happening during an unexpected karaoke segment on Wednesday morning. ‌ Hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary were joined by Tom Swarbrick and Camilla Tominey for a chat about the nation's favourite karaoke songs. Dermot gave a quick rendition of Bon Jovi classic Livin' On A Prayer, whilst Camillla struggled through I Wanna Dance With Somebody by Whitney Houston. ‌ Alison had got up to perform River Deep Mountain High, but it appeared to have been the wrong song as she sat back down and Dermot exclaimed: "God knows what is going to happen now!" Things took an even more surprising turn when all four hosts took it upon themselves to perform Mr. Brightside by The Killers, during which Dermot stormed across the studio and jumped onto the sofa. ‌ Next up, Tom performed How You Remind Me by Nickelback before Alison noted they had 'run out of time' for any more as she sent the show to an ad break. But the bizarre segment did not go down entirely well with viewers, who took to social media to give their opinion. One viewer wrote simply claimed they had 'died from cringe' after watching the karaoke session, and another wondered: "What am I watching here?" A third social media user demanded: "What have we done to endure this punishment!" and another said: "What the actual f***am i watching? god oh almighty", whilst another pleaded with the broadcaster to "make it stop". One viewer compared the segment to "bad X Factor auditions", and took particular aim at Dermot, who hosted the talent show during its height in the late 2000s. ‌ They wrote: "That was a performance worthy of an X Factor 2010 YouTube compilation of bad auditions", whilst another quipped: "What a bad day to have ears". Another claimed: "Dermot is forgetting he is on TV!" But it wasn't all bad, as one viewer found the fun in the light-hearted segment, and they wrote: "Dermot and Allison are so unserious on #ThisMorning I love it, they treat it like a day out!" Moments later, when Coronation Street actress and West End star Jodie Prenger was preparing to go behind the scenes of London's new musical Hercules, Dermot joked: "God, we could have done with them during karaoke," whilst Alison noted what a 'beautiful' voice the soap star has. ‌ The whole item came off the back of a study that revealed the greatest singalong songs of all time. Put together by Oxford professor Dr Tom Crawford, the custom formula factored in how fast the beat was, number of verses, chorus repeats and even the release date of the song. "My research showed a preference for a faster pace, with an average beats per minute of 126, as well as a ratio of three chorus repetitions for every two verses,' he said. 'This fits with the standard structure of most pop songs - hence why you'll see your favourites scoring highly!' Livin' On A Prayer took top spot with a score of 91 out of a possible 100, closely followed by Whitney Houston's I Wanna Dance with Somebody (90). In third place was Oasis' iconic Don't Look Back In Anger (89). Dr Crawford devised his formula using research from a poll of 2,000 karaoke lovers, commissioned by mobile giant Three and suicide prevention charity Samaritans. ‌ The study found 90 per cent of people feel happier after a sing-along, with 81 per cent getting an emotional uplift and 70 per cent finding it therapeutic. And the research also identified the best year for karaoke gold. 'With ABBA dominating the 70s, through to Adele in the 2010s, the average release year of a karaoke classic is 1995,' Dr Crawford said. 'This captures the boyband craze, as well as Brit pop with Oasis, and girl power in the form of the Spice Girls, showing there's some serious maths behind a killer karaoke belter!' Three and Samaritans are running the Kathartic Karaoke initiative to support people with their mental health There will be a special booth at the Latitude Festival in Suffolk (July 24 to 27) and The Mound at Edinburgh Fringe (August 15 and 16). Nicki Lyons, Chief Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Officer at VodafoneThree, said: 'As the Official Connectivity Partner of some of the UK's biggest festivals this summer, we understand the power and importance of making connections that matter, whether it's through technology or shared experiences like music. We are delighted to be partnering with Samaritans for the first time at music festivals, to create joyful spaces for people to connect to one another and experience our 'Kathartic Karaoke' for themselves.'

'Karl's got guns!': Social media goes wild for Karl Stefanovic's muscular arms as Today star, 50, shares stunning workout video after weight loss

Karl Stefanovic has showed off his impressively ripped physique in a hilarious new video at the gym following a major body transformation. The Today host, 50, has been open about his weight loss journey after once tipping the scales at 105kg back in 2020. Stefanovic later told The Kyle and Jackie O Show that unflattering paparazzi photos taken at his heaviest prompted some stern advice from his billionaire pal James Packer. "James Packer sends me a note that says: 'mate, you need to get your a**e to the gym'," Stefanovic said. On Friday, Stefanovic shared a comedic video to Instagram which showed him working out with friend Peter Oreb while his personal trainer Mark Glanville danced in the background. The veteran Channel 9 star and father of four performed a series of gruelling push-up exercises in the clip as his biceps noticeably rippled beneath a tight orange tank top. 'There's something not quite right about my trainer,' Stefanovic captioned the video, which featured the song 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody' by Whitney Houston. Fans of the Today host flooded the comment section to praise his new rock hard physique. 'Brah when did Karlos get muscles,' one fan wrote. 'Karl got guns,' another supporter said. 'You got a licence for those firearms?!' 'Whatever he's doing it's working,' another fan agreed. Meanwhile, Stefanovic's sister-in-law Jade Yarbrough raised her concerns that Stefanovic was working out in the gym shoe-less. 'More concerned about you not wearing shoes in the gym again,' she wrote. The video was quickly picked up by Today producers, who used the video of their star presenter's workout for a segment about 'Dad Bods'. Stefanovic's body transformation comes months after reports the Today star is currently vying to replace Rodger Corser as the host of top-rating gameshow The Floor. The quiz show, which sees contestants challenge each other in head-to-head trivia duels, has proven ratings gold for Nine in the 7.30pm time slot ever since it premiered in April.

TV star looks unrecognisable with the late Whitney Houston as she shares throwback pictures to celebrate anniversary - can you guess who it is?

A well known TV star looked unrecognisable with Whitney Houston as she shared sweet throwback pictures to celebrate an iconic anniversary to Instagram on Saturday. The now 81-year-old posed alongside the singing legend as she shared an insight behind the scenes when creating I Wanna Dance With Somebody. Whitney died aged 48 in 2012 in California - a coroner's report indicated the singer, who struggled with substance abuse, had accidentally drowned in the bathtub due to a combination of heart disease and cocaine use. To celebrate the song's 38th anniversary, this celebrity posted a picture of herself, aged 43 in 1987, wearing a black jumper and yellow corduroy trousers. Her brunette locks was cut into a short pixie look and she opted for a no-makeup look while on set. Sat on a chair in front of her, Whitney stunned as she wore her iconic pink and blue eye shadow makeup. With her hair volumised and accessorised with pink roses, Whitney looked happy as she flashed a smile for the camera. But can you guess who the other celebrity is? That's right, it's Arlene Phillips. Alongside the picture, Arlene penned: 'In honour of | Wanna Dance with Somebody being released on this day in 1987, some cherished behind the scenes photos from making the music video which amazingly has over 500 million views on @youtube. 'I never dreamed at the time my choreography could be seen by so many @whitneyhouston' Arlene also shared a black-and-white picture of Whitney getting the last finishing touches to her makeup before shooting the iconic music video. To finish the heartfelt tribute, Arlene posted a snap of Whitney looking elegant in a little black dress, classic black court heels and large hoop earrings. Arlene worked with Whitney on two of her biggest hits and its choreography, I Wanna Dance With Somebody and How Will I know. I Wanna Dance With Somebody in early May in 1987 and first hit the charts on the 23rd of that month. It spent spent two weeks at number one on the UK charts, eight weeks in the top ten and 25 weeks in the top 100. The song was a commercial success and became her fourth No.1 single and her first Platinum single in the U.S. It went on to win Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female at the 30th Grammy Awards. The song was written by George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam - who also wrote How Will I Know - and produced by Narada Michael Walden. Whitney passed away in 2012 and her daughter, Bobbi, died three years later after a drug-related incident in the bathroom of her home in Georgia.
